Or
“Am I doing enough?”
“Why aren’t I further along?”
“Shouldn't I have accomplished more by now?”
“It's no big deal I only got 4 sales.”
Enough. More. Only. Further along. These are the words and phrases that get us #GoalGetters into a lot of trouble. It just happened to me last week. I was gearing up to celebrate No Real Jewelry's fifth anniversary when my inner critic came in like a damn wrecking ball and had me questioning EVERYTHING. (NRJ is my lifestyle blog btw if you’re new here.)
Homegirl had me sitting there wondering whether or not I had done enough in my business and life these past 5 years. Mind you, I pretty much accomplished everything that I had set out to achieve, and more but my inner critic just wouldn't let up.
She had me comparing myself to the bloggers + girl bosses that rake in millions of dollars, get millions of views, and have a million followers. I knew it was completely unfair of me to compare my journey to theirs but I did and I went down the whole-- I haven't done enough spiral.
After sulking and feeling sorry for myself for a couple of hours I had an aha moment. What does "enough" or "more" really mean for me? If I stop looking at what everybody else is doing haven't I done enough for me?
And so I started to think back and I realized that in five years I made my wildest dreams come true which means I've done more than enough!
And that my dear is when my pity party turned back into a celebration. You see when I stopped looking at other people's journeys as the standard or enough measuring stick, I realized that I am exactly where I need to be. If your inner critic has been throwing around the— enoughs, onlys and futher alongs— your way then today's episode is for you!
