their swift and comprehensive rescue operation after a helicopter carrying
two Taiwanese tourists and a Japanese pilot went missing near one of Japan's
most active volcanoes.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has arranged for the Taiwan victims' families
to travel to Japan following the accident.
Authorities say the helicopter lost contact during what should have been a
10-minute flight over Mount Aso in southern Japan on Monday.
Rescuers on Wednesday said they'd spotted wreckage believed to be from the
sightseeing helicopter inside the crater (火山口) of one of Mt. Aso's five
peaks.
However, officials had said bad weather and high levels of volcanic gases
were hampering the rescue operation.
The helicopter's operating agent has said the two tourists from Taiwan were a
41 year old man and a 36 year old woman.
