We all have defense mechanisms - ways we avoid facing tough feelings, problems, or uncomfortable truths about ourselves.
This instinct isn't always about destructive habits such as using drugs or alcohol. Sometimes, it's about doing too much work, getting too involved in relationships, or even turning personal development into an obsession.
People sometimes stay busy to avoid focusing on their inner pain. This can mean watching a lot of sports, going to many events, working too much, or focusing only on family. These distractions keep their minds busy, preventing them from addressing their traumas, doubts, and insecurities.
Success can be tricky, too. Some people might think that if they're successful, they don't have any problems. But the truth is, even very successful people can be using their achievements to hide from their problems.
On the outside, they seem to have it all, but internally, they're battling demons they're not ready to face. Having lots of money or things doesn't mean you're happy. Yes, money can help in many ways, but it doesn't fix everything.
The best way to be truly happy is to understand yourself. This means recognizing your feelings, acknowledging your traumas, and making an effort to confront them.
Yes, wasting time or escaping is comfortable - it's easier to ignore problems than to face them. But the lessons life aims to teach will keep returning until we've grasped them.
In this week's episode, I'll be talking about these important topics:
