This weekend marks the 20th anniversary of the fantastic First Division play-off Final that’s the subject of today’s Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard. Geneticist, author and broadcaster Adam Rutherford joins us to discuss Barnsley 2-4 Ipswich, the last club game at the old Wembley!
After Ipswich were knocked out in the three previous play-off semi-finals, they arrived at a Wembley on the back of a 7-5 aggregate win over Bolton in the semi-finals. They must’ve worried misfortune would strike again after just six minutes into the final, as a Richard Wright own goal put Barnsley ahead. But, on the back of some classy technical operators that had impressed all season, Ipswich pulled it back, with Adam and all his family cheering on in the sunshine.

Project Restart is near implementation! From June 17th we’ll once again be able to watch our beloved Premier League, some of it on free to air TV! What confusing times we’re living through.
Over in Germany Thomas Müller is keeping Bayern Munich’s smug levels at their usual level of “unbearably high”, Louis van Gaal is back with his regular gripes about his time at Man United and Jose Mourinho is talking about how he DOESN’T want to spend money once football returns. What is going on here?

We begin today’s episode of On The Continent with some truly startling news: André Villas-Boas is staying at a club for a second season! That’s right, after discussions with Marseille President Jacques-Henri Eyraud and lots of support from the squad, AVB is taking off his hastily buttoned jacket and settling in for a second season down at the State Vélodrome.
We also check in on the latest in Spain, as La Liga president Javier Tebas has outlined the current plan for their return, and we bring you all the big stories from another round of Bundesliga fixtures. There’s also some interesting news coming out of the Netherlands, as second-placed AZ Alkmaar are urging Uefa to overturn rewarding Ajax an automatic Champions League place – listen on to find out why!
And, to finish, we're delighted to bring you our first Games of the Week choices since lockdown began!

We’re back with the second part of our extended Ramble Meets… interview with former Liverpool, Fulham and England midfielder Danny Murphy! On today’s episode, we rejoin Danny’s story when he left Charlton and joined Martin Jol’s Tottenham.
Danny talks to Luke about how the initial differences with Jol gave way to problems in his family life that ultimately hampered his career in North London. He then swapped North for West, joining Fulham, and they reminisce about the club's journey to reach the 2009/10 Europa League final under Roy Hodgson. They also discuss what it’s like challenging a manager whose philosophy isn’t working, wonder whether he could have achieved more and remember Clint Dempsey’s unbelievable reaction to being told he’d been dropped on the day of that Europa League final.

Your favourite duo on Football Ramble Daily are back with a brand new episode, as we get stuck into the latest news during these unprecedented times.
We begin by speaking to psychiatrist Dr. Tim Rogers, who counts a number of professional footballers among his clients, about the mental strain professional players are currently under and their worries around future finances and employment. We then discuss some updates from the Football League, where many smaller clubs are in a precarious financial state as they try to finalise plans for the rest of their seasons. We also look back on some of our favourite moments from the WSL season - which was curtailed this week - and discuss the clubs' hopes for if/how standings may be finalised.
We'd love to here from you in these unprecedented, chaotic times - email us: [email protected] or tweet us @JulesBreach @AndyBrassell @FootballRamble

The Bundesliga continues to deliver, with positive results for all of our beloved teams - Borussia Dortmund, Hertha Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen and FC Koln - as well as big wins for Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. Such merciful release.
Back in rumourland Mauricio Pochettino is making it clear that he’d be happy to manage in the Premier League again and those Rafa Benitez to Newcastle rumours just aren’t going away.
Elsewhere we saw many pleasing examples of footballers with lockdown hair, there’s some confusing talk about kestrels and we review Goal 3. Oh. Goal 3. Everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves.

As domestic football's return gradually takes shape, we're taking a look back at some of our favourite episodes of At The Match from the last few seasons, where Andy Brassell samples some of the best football atmospheres around.
On today's episode, fellow Football Ramble Daily host Jonathan Wilson joins Andy as he heads north for a chilly autumnal afternoon Stadium of Light. Andy sits down with David Rose, the FSF’s deputy chief executive and lifelong Sunderland fan, to discuss the improved relationship between the owners and supporters, and what the Red and White Army supporters group are doing in the local community. We also hear from Peter Daykin on why life outside the Premier League isn't as disheartening as one might imagine.
Which episodes of At The Match do you want us to revisit? Let us know on Twitter: @FootballRamble & @andybrassell.

On today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, we remember one of the most iconic Champions League finals of the modern era. We’re joined by celebrated commentator Clive Tyldesley, who was in the gantry for the game at the Camp Nou, to discuss the 1999 Champions League final!
Manchester United’s victory over Bayern Munich ended English football's long wait since their last continental triumph. It also sealed the treble for United that, rather than through imperious dominance, was won via a series of ridiculous comebacks across the season. Bayern themselves produced a remarkable comeback in their semi-final against Dynamo Kyiv and, with five minutes to go, looked to have written their name on the trophy. Clive joins us to discuss his experience of commentating on this iconic match where, with the introduction of Ole Gunnar Solskjær and the pressure building, the seemingly inevitable happened.

Lots going on in this show, with actual German football marching on and Premier League teams returning to training! Project Restart is underway. That’s not all though…
When you picture Robbie Savage you don’t often think of the term newshound. Afghan Hound, yes, but definitely not newshound. That’s all changed as he’s now popping up with questions at the government’s daily briefings. Is there no end to the strangeness of these times?
One thing that may soon be at an end is Steve Bruce’s time in charge of Newcastle. With nobody in place to do it he’s had to give himself the dreaded vote of confidence. G’wan, Steve! We’re rooting for you. Most of us anyway.
As well as all this we’ve got chat about our strange fever dreams, Jaap Stam’s unfortunate unveiling at FC Cincinnati, plus Pete Donaldson: Private Plane Spotter and Naughty Museum Connoisseur.

We’ve got some football to talk about on today’s episode of On The Continent – happy days!
Luke Moore and Andy Brassell are in situ and kick things off with a look back at Dortmund’s win over Schalke. We discuss David Wagner’s difficult job to get this Schalke side into shape, as well as trying to unravel the complicated situation around goalkeepers Markus Schubert and Alex Nübel. There’s even time for a look ahead to this weekend’s Berlin derby.
Elsewhere we discuss some continental transfer rumours, including Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanić's potential move to Barcelona and Roma’s reported interest in Moise Kean, and worry about Marseille as they continue to sail through choppy waters!
