  • All The Ways We Don’t Show Up For Ourselves
Looking for the familiar (i.e. safety) in your life can be a clue to what you are afraid of when it comes to what you want. When you attempt to commit to something but feel resistance, take notice; resistance is just another form of fear. Sometimes when we're called to commit, it sounds good at the time, but then later it feels downright horrible, as though you’d prefer lobbing off a body part to get out of it.
This is what it’s like when you fight against consistency and resistance takes over. It's an internal battle between participating and being on your own island, which may lead you to question all the things you say you want, but cannot commit to doing. Being afraid of loss can make us act in pretty inconsistent ways. It can make us say one thing (what we want) and do the opposite (what we don't want). Then we intellectualize our actions--why am I doing this? Unfortunately we never get to the answer because it’s buried under a deeper belief, and the only way to uncover it is by connecting to our feelings. Our mind can't get there on its own. Join me to learn how to take emotional action toward commitment and consistency so you can have what you want.

  • Disease Of Self Sufficiency
We are physiologically wired to be connected, and people who are insecurely attached (avoidant or anxious) tend to be very self-sufficient. At least that's the impression they give, but once you get beneath their independent exterior, you may find they are just as needy, messy and wanting of help as anyone else.
If you have such a tough exterior, how can anyone else get in? Where is that opportunity for connection? Why do you wear independence like a crown of strength? This perceived self-confidence is not really confidence. Confidence means being comfortable in your body at all times. Remember, how people appear and how they feel can be two totally different things.
When we don't feel safe and fear the emotional vulnerability that comes with asking for help, we call it self-sufficiency and take pride in being Mr. or Ms. Independent. Learn how asking for help or accepting it when it's offered is actually the bravest thing you can do.
