The stories that we hold between generations never cease to amaze. Whether it’s a true tale of adventure and triumph, or a fictional fairytale that gets passed down as a bedtime story through generations, stories are what brings us all together. In this episode we will be hearing a story called ‘The Sax Man’ by Ted Fink that’s all about finding family and friendship through a stranger; a story called ‘The Evil Prince and the Sleeping Beauty by Judith Black who tells about her childhood and relationships with her family, all underscored by the beautiful sounds of Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty; as well as the stories ‘Is Not Is Too’ by Bill Harley and ‘Anthony Squished my Banana’ by Anthony Burcher. All in an extraordinary hour about music and family that you won’t want to miss.
On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
“The Sax Man” by Ted Fink from The New Stuff: Stories N’ Songs (11:17)
A story about a lost father and a man that at first is irritating, but later is a welcome friend as it is discovered that his connections are through music and family.
“The Evil Prince and the Sleeping Beauty” by Judith Black in Adult Children of…Parents! (16:20)
With an accompaniment from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, Judith Black orates the story of her relationship with her brother, childhood, weight and classical music. She uses Sleeping Beauty as an escapism from her more-than-ordinary life, and the music lifts her above herself and her circumstances.
“Anthony Squished my Banana” by Anthony Burcher from Anthony Squished My Banana (20:26)
Our last story follows little Anthony Burcher as he irritates his mother, goes to school, wets his pants, and then learns to overcome his fear of the bathroom.
