There's a message in the Caleb Flynn trial where he tells Alleigha Botner what he'll do once Ashley is asleep, and she answers "Perfect." It's from September 2, 2025. Ashley Flynn was shot in her sleep on February 16, 2026. That exchange is the spine of this Hidden Killers panel, all three parts in one.
Robin Dreeke, retired FBI behavioral analyst, and Jennifer Coffindaffer, 25-year FBI special agent, and nine clips from Botner's two days of direct and her cross. His side: the June 12 "hire someone" message and "I've never joked about it"; July 4's "please take her out" and "not even for a second"; August 22's "thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail." Her side: the July 10 message she had to claim on the stand, the September 2 phone plan, and "I'm not asking that you take her life, obviously," followed by "time is ticking." The cross: her Google searches after the murder, "I don't think he could ever be capable," and the admission that she went to Ashley's parents' house that morning so she wouldn't "look suspicious," while police never searched, swabbed, printed, or charged her.
Prosecutors say Caleb shot his wife twice in the head and staged a break-in. His lawyers say an intruder did it and the state is trying an affair. The panel's verdict on the two of them is the episode.

Bryan Kohberger studied criminology at the doctoral level, and his own defense team told a judge they needed outside help getting through to him. That's in a sealed May 2025 filing, unsealed on September 22, 2026, that his new attorney, Greg Rauch, is using to challenge the guilty plea. Anne Taylor's team wrote that Kohberger was having difficulty comprehending adverse rulings and fitting them into a rational assessment of his case. In the same filing, they expressly denied he was incompetent. Judge Steven Hippler refused to delay the case on June 26, 2025, and Kohberger pleaded guilty six days later to killing four University of Idaho students. Rauch argues the judge knew all of this before accepting the plea. Defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis explains how a lawyer can say a client can't follow his own case and still isn't incompetent, and why that line matters for the plea.

Cross-examination of Ohio BCI criminal intelligence analyst Samantha Reeb shifted attention away from Caleb Flynn’s messages and onto information recovered from Ashley Flynn’s own phone.
Reeb testified that she created timelines using Flynn’s police interviews, other investigative information, and data recovered from his iPhone. Prosecutors have used that digital work to organize the enormous volume of communications surrounding the case.
The defense used cross-examination to widen that picture.
Reeb testified about notes found on Ashley’s iPhone, including one indicating that Ashley was experiencing difficulty in her marriage to Caleb.
Defense counsel also questioned Reeb about Alleigha Botner. Specifically, the attorney asked about messages from Botner expressing hatred toward Ashley or wanting Ashley dead. The testimony described here does not establish Reeb’s answer to those questions, but the line of questioning put Botner’s own communications before the jury rather than focusing exclusively on Flynn’s.
Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged the scene to resemble a home-invasion burglary. His defense maintains Ashley was killed by an intruder and investigators focused on Caleb too quickly.
Reeb’s direct testimony gave jurors a prosecution-built digital timeline. Cross-examination is testing what else existed inside that same digital record.

Cross-examination in the Caleb Flynn trial opened with Alleigha Botner's search history, and the defense had it word for word: what she looked up on February 17 and February 19, 2026, in the days after Ashley Flynn was killed. She said yes to every one.
Part three of the Hidden Killers panel with Robin Dreeke, retired FBI behavioral analyst, and Jennifer Coffindaffer, 25-year FBI special agent. Three clips from Emily Smith's cross. The searches. The moment Smith asks whether Botner ever believed Caleb meant his "kill her" messages, and the state's own witness answers, "I don't think he could ever be capable of doing something like that." And the close: she thought Caleb did it, drove to Ashley's parents' house that same morning so she wouldn't "look suspicious," kept her suspicions to herself for days, and was never searched, swabbed, printed, charged, or offered a deal.
Prosecutors say Caleb Flynn shot his wife twice in the head on February 16, 2026 and called 911 with an intruder story. The defense says investigators picked the husband on day one and never looked anywhere else. This segment is where that argument lives.
Whether the jury walked out wondering about him or about her is the question the panel answers.

More than 107,000 messages between Caleb Flynn and Alleigha Botner became a spreadsheet, a timeline, and ultimately a series of numbers the prosecution wants jurors to remember.
Ohio BCI criminal intelligence analyst Samantha Reeb testified that she helped preserve digital data, analyze information returned through search warrants, and build a timeline of communications in the investigation into the death of Ashley Flynn.
Reeb testified that an Instagram account using the false name “Derrick Hammond” was created by Caleb Flynn’s phone and used to monitor and message Botner.
Then she broke down the communications by subject matter.
According to Reeb’s analysis, 141 messages referenced Caleb wanting to kill Ashley, while another 95 referenced hating her. She identified 188 messages involving discussion about deleting digital data. The overall volume of communication dropped dramatically in January before Flynn and Botner resumed talking on February 14.
Reeb testified there were 266 communications from February 14 into February 15. From roughly 4 p.m. February 15 through February 16, she counted 716 communications.
She also testified that GroupMe was deleted from Flynn’s phone at approximately 1 a.m. February 16, with Instagram deleted around the same time.
Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged the scene as a home invasion. His defense maintains an intruder killed her and investigators wrongly focused on Caleb.
The prosecution has spent days showing jurors individual messages. Reeb’s testimony attempts to show them the scale and timing of the digital record surrounding those messages.

Caleb Flynn spent six days of his aggravated murder trial without showing emotion. He sat through Alleigha Botner’s testimony about 107,000 text messages, alleged meetups at a storage unit, and AI-generated love songs prosecutors say he created using her voice. None of it moved him.
On Day 7, the jury watched two police interrogation videos recorded on February 16, 2026, hours after Ashley Flynn was found with two gunshot wounds to the back of her head. When the courtroom screen played those interviews, Caleb Flynn cried.
The questioning started at 4:28 in the morning. Detective Mike Morgan asked to see Flynn’s text messages with Ashley. The phone had none. Flynn said he deleted them because her photos took up storage. The same phone allegedly held every message he’d exchanged with Botner.
Morgan asked about enemies. Flynn said the family had none — they stuck to themselves, went to church. FBI Special Agent Kinzig had testified that a murder-for-hire tip allegedly pointed at Flynn during the investigation.
Flynn offered an intruder theory and pointed to a side door in the garage. Testimony established that the damage to that door was allegedly visible only from the inside. His own theory allegedly didn’t match the physical evidence.
Flynn said he fell asleep by 11:30 p.m. Prosecutors presented Apple Watch data showing Ashley’s watch allegedly recorded activity between approximately 1:19 a.m. and 2:28 a.m. Flynn called 911 at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Then Flynn volunteered something nobody asked about — a handgun in his truck. The weapon that allegedly killed Ashley has never been recovered. Flynn couldn’t describe the gun he admits he owned.
Before anyone accused him, Flynn told Morgan it felt like they were pointing at him. He denied laying a hand on Ashley. Nobody in the room had suggested he had.

Cross-examination of Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan turned from what Tipp City police investigated in Ashley Flynn’s murder to what they didn’t.
The defense pressed Morgan about moments where the interview video appeared not to line up with its audio. Then the questions moved to physical evidence. Morgan testified that investigators found no evidence of blood on Caleb Flynn’s clothing or in the sinks of the home.
Caleb also was never tested for gunshot residue.
Asked why, Morgan said investigators didn’t want to rush to judgment and take Caleb into custody at that point. But Morgan also testified that because Caleb said he entered the room within four to six seconds of hearing the shots, he believed gunshot residue would have been somewhere on Caleb’s body. No gunshot-residue tests were taken in the case.
The defense also questioned investigative ground that Morgan acknowledged wasn’t covered. Police did not examine FLOCK camera data in the neighborhood or around Pastor Jordan’s house, and investigators did not search the fields behind Jordan’s home. Defense counsel also raised the use of cold-case units by many police departments.
Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged a home invasion. The defense says the home invasion was real and investigators focused on Caleb too quickly.
Cross-examination is now putting that defense theory directly against the investigative choices police made.

The Caleb Flynn murder trial put jurors back inside the police interview room as Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan showed more video of investigators questioning Flynn about the night his wife, Ashley Flynn, was killed.
Morgan testified as jurors watched Flynn draw a map explaining what he said happened inside the Tipp City home and where events unfolded. Detectives pressed him on what he heard that allegedly woke him that night and continued working through his account step by step.
Then the interview became much more direct.
An officer asked Flynn, “Did you do this?”
Flynn asked him to repeat the question. When the officer did, Flynn answered, “No.”
Investigators also told Flynn that he would be investigated and that evidence gathered in the case would be taken to a grand jury. Flynn again denied involvement, telling detectives, “I did not touch my wife.”
Flynn, 40, has pleaded not guilty to all charges in the death of Ashley Flynn, 37. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged the scene to resemble a home-invasion burglary. His defense maintains Ashley was killed during an actual home invasion and investigators rushed to judgment against her husband.
Now jurors are hearing Flynn explain the night in his own words—and hearing exactly how investigators challenged that explanation.

Every message the jury heard from Caleb Flynn about wanting his wife gone came out of a conversation, and Alleigha Botner was the other half of it. On part two of this Hidden Killers panel, the clips are hers. One is a message about Ashley Flynn that the prosecutor made her read and then made her claim: "Who said that?" "Me."
Robin Dreeke, retired FBI behavioral analyst, and Jennifer Coffindaffer, 25-year FBI special agent, join me for three clips from the Caleb Flynn trial. July 10, 2025: the message, her "I didn't mean it," and his "that makes two of us." September 2: Ashley had found their texts on Caleb's iPad and taken pictures; here the two of them work out whether the pictures still exist, Caleb says he'll "grab her phone when she sleeps," and Botner replies "be careful," then "what would be your excuse," then "Perfect." August 22: her answer to his 4 a.m. "ways to kill her" message, which starts "I'm not asking that you take her life, obviously" and ends "time is ticking and I can't wait forever."
Caleb Flynn is charged with aggravated murder. Prosecutors say he shot Ashley in her sleep on February 16, 2026 and called 911 with an intruder story. His defense says the state is prosecuting an affair. Botner testified on cross that she has no deal and no charges.
Whether you see a victim of a married man or a woman steering him is the argument this panel has out loud.

Caleb Flynn's mistress read a text to the jury that turns an ugly affair into something else, and it was sent June 12, 2025, with eight months still to go before Ashley Flynn died. What he asked for, what she wrote back, and "I've never joked about it" open this Hidden Killers panel on the Caleb Flynn trial.
Robin Dreeke, former head of the FBI's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, and Jennifer Coffindaffer, retired FBI special agent, watch three clips with me and break down the man in them. Fourth of July: "douche needs to go," "please take her out," and his answer when she asks if he'd ever miss the Smiths. August 22: "up till 4 a.m. crying and literally thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail," then "I have been literally trying to find a way to get rid of her," then the confession that he'd been parked across the street from her office in tears.
The state's theory is that Caleb shot Ashley twice in the head while she slept on February 16, 2026, then staged the house to look like a break-in. The defense says an intruder killed her and the prosecution has motive confused with murder. Every message in this episode was read into evidence by the prosecution's own witness.
Where these three clips leave you decides how you hear the rest of this trial. Part two is her hands on it. Part three is cross.
