  • Rob Reiner Said He Was "Petrified" of Nick. Twelve Hours Later He Was Dead. | Hidden Killers

The night before he died, Rob Reiner reportedly told friends at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party: "I'm petrified of Nick. I think my own son can hurt me."

He wasn't guessing. He was describing something he'd been living with for years.

An LAPD insider said police had responded to the Reiner home "quite a few" times over the years for incidents involving Nick. A neighbor told the New York Post this wasn't the first time Nick had been violent. Professionals had reportedly warned the family. Nick himself admitted on podcasts to manipulating his parents, gaming rehab programs, and convincing them to trust him over the experts.

Everyone saw the warning signs. No one could stop what was coming.

California's mental health laws are designed to protect individual liberty — but they leave families like the Reiners with almost no options. You can't force an adult into treatment unless they're about to hurt someone right now. A 5150 hold gives you 72 hours before they walk out. Conservatorship takes years to obtain and has to be renewed annually.

Rob and Michele did everything they could. Millions on treatment. Seventeen rehab programs. Keeping Nick close because the alternative was watching him die on the streets. And in the end, their son allegedly murdered them anyway.

Bob Motta joins Hidden Killers to talk about what law enforcement sees in cases like this — the repeated calls, the escalating incidents, the families begging for help. When officers respond to a home over and over, what can they actually do? And why does the system keep failing the people it's supposed to protect?

This is the conversation about everything that happened before the crime.

  • The Family Left Behind: Bryan Kohberger's Sister Speaks for the First Time About Life After the Idaho Murders

Mel Kohberger was training to become a mental health therapist when her brother was arrested for murdering four University of Idaho students. In one phone call, her entire life changed. Her job offer evaporated. Tabloids camped outside her parents' house. Online sleuths picked apart every detail of her family's history — including her sister Amanda's appearance in a 2011 horror film that featured stabbings.

For three years, the Kohberger family stayed silent out of respect for the victims' families. Now, in a new interview with The New York Times, Mel is finally telling her side of the story.

She reveals the last normal Christmas the family spent together — just days before the FBI raid. She describes her brother's struggles with bullying, autism, and heroin addiction, and the pride the family felt when he seemed to turn his life around. She explains the drawing Bryan held during his sentencing — not a "creepy" symbol, as tabloids claimed, but a colorful heart she made to remind him he was still loved.

This isn't a defense of Bryan Kohberger. He pleaded guilty. He's serving four life sentences. This is about what happens to the people connected to someone who commits an unthinkable act — and what the true crime obsession costs the people we never think about.

Featuring reporting from The New York Times, CBS News, and ABC News.

  • Uvalde Trial Day 1: Kids Armed Themselves With Scissors — Then The Judge Shut It Down

Day one of the Adrian Gonzales trial ended in chaos. The judge halted testimony, sent the jury home, and canceled Wednesday's proceedings after the defense accused prosecutors of withholding evidence from a key witness. Defense attorney Jason Goss called it a "trial by ambush." A mistrial is now on the table.

Before it fell apart, the jury heard gut-wrenching testimony. Gilbert Limones, a funeral home worker across the street from Robb Elementary, described watching the gunman fire into classroom windows while walking "very nonchalantly." He told jurors Gonzales' police vehicle drove past the shooter before he entered the building. His 911 calls were played in court — a man screaming for help, invoking God, begging police to save the children.

Teacher Stephanie Hale testified that staff tried to barricade their classroom with an extension cord and grabbed scissors to fight. When the kids were finally evacuated, Hale noticed they'd armed themselves too. Fourth graders holding safety scissors. She said both her back pockets were full of scissors by the time it was over.

Prosecutor Bill Turner's refrain echoed through the courtroom: "Adrian Gonzales remains." The defense says he did what he could. The families say he failed their children. Now no one knows if this trial will even continue.

  • Can Nick Reiner Beat a Double Murder Charge With the Insanity Defense? | Legal Analysis

Alan Jackson doesn't take cases he can't spin. The high-powered defense attorney — fresh off Karen Read's acquittal — is now representing Nick Reiner, charged with murdering his parents Rob and Michele Reiner in their Brentwood home. And he's already laying the groundwork for what's coming.

"Very complex and serious issues." "Restraint and dignity." That's defense attorney code for: we're going with insanity.

Nick was diagnosed with schizophrenia years ago. His medication was reportedly adjusted weeks before the killings. A sealed court order regarding his mental health has already been signed. He appeared at his first hearing in a suicide prevention smock, wasn't medically cleared the day before, and said only two words: "Yes, your honor."

The optics are being set. But can it actually work?

California's M'Naghten standard is brutal for defendants. You have to prove you didn't understand what you were doing or didn't know it was wrong. Not that you were mentally ill. Not that you were hearing voices. The bar is specific and high.

Bob Motta joins us to explain how insanity defenses actually play out in court. What evidence moves juries? How do prosecutors counter claims of psychosis? And here's the question no one wants to ask: if Nick spent seventeen years manipulating his parents, gaming rehab programs, and convincing them to ignore professional warnings — can he really claim he didn't understand what he was doing when he allegedly killed them?

Mental illness is real. But so is accountability. Bob Motta breaks down where the law draws that line.

  • The Charity Beallis Case: FBI Behavioral Expert Robin Dreeke on What the Evidence Actually Shows

Hidden Killers Podcast sits down with former FBI special agent Robin Dreeke to analyze the documented behavioral patterns in the Charity Beallis case — examining what court records, police reports, and public filings reveal about the two adults at the center of this tragedy.

Charity Beallis and her twins Eliana and Maverick were found dead from gunshot wounds on December 3rd, 2025. The investigation remains open. No arrest has been made. No suspect has been named publicly. Autopsy results are pending.

This case has been framed by many as a clear-cut domestic violence situation. The documented record suggests something more complicated.

Randall Beallis pled guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery after being accused of choking Charity. His previous wife Shawna also died from a gunshot wound in 2012 — ruled a suicide. But Charity's record includes a 2013 firearm arrest and allegations from her own father that she was dangerous to her child. According to a police report, that same father allegedly told investigators in 2021 that Charity confessed to shooting Shawna.

Two people with documented allegations of violence. Two children who had no way out. Now three of them are dead and investigators haven't said who's responsible.

Robin Dreeke spent over three decades in federal law enforcement. In this conversation, he applies his behavioral expertise to examine what the documented patterns suggest — without assuming guilt or innocence on either side.

Content on this site is based on publicly available information and reflects commentary and opinion. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Nothing published here constitutes legal, medical, or professional advice.

  • Sarah Grace Patrick: State PUNTS on Trial Day — Where Are the "Mountains of Evidence"? | Carroll County Double Murder

January 5th, 2026 was supposed to be the day. Jury selection in the Sarah Grace Patrick case. Instead, the trial was delayed seven months to August 3rd — and it was the prosecution, not the defense, that drove the delay.

Sarah Grace Patrick is the 17-year-old Georgia teen charged as an adult with murdering her mother Kristin Brock and stepfather James Brock. They were shot in their bed in February 2025. When Sarah was arrested five months later, authorities announced they had "mountains of evidence" against her. But what have they actually shown us?

No murder weapon recovered. No forensic evidence publicly disclosed. No gun found at the scene. The prosecution has made claims in court filings about cameras being disabled before the shooting — but those are allegations, not proven facts. Meanwhile, Sarah's social media activity has been treated like a smoking gun simply because people don't understand how teenagers communicate in 2025.

On January 5th, the defense had their neuropsychologist evaluation ready. The state said they needed time to review and rebut. The judge — who specifically told prosecutors back in December to let him know if they needed more time — granted the delay.

Sarah's grandfather Dennis Nolan continues to maintain her innocence. He says there's no physical evidence tying her to the murders. He says investigators haven't produced the weapon. And he says her first call from jail was desperate: "What are they doing to me? Why are they doing this? I didn't do anything."

Is she guilty? Is she innocent? We don't know. But we do know this: prosecutors who have mountains of evidence don't need seven-month delays to go to trial.

  • Bob Motta on Sarah Grace Patrick Case: Why Did the Prosecution Need 7 More Months? | Defense Attorney Analysis

Defense attorney Bob Motta breaks down the Sarah Grace Patrick trial delay and the questions surrounding the prosecution's "mountains of evidence" claim.

Sarah Grace Patrick was 16 years old when her mother Kristin Brock and stepfather James Brock were found shot to death in their Carroll County, Georgia home on February 20th, 2025. Their young daughter discovered the bodies. Sarah called 911. She was arrested five months later and charged as an adult with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

At the time of her arrest, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office told the press they had "mountains of evidence" against her. But when the January 5th, 2026 trial date arrived, the prosecution wasn't ready to proceed. They told Judge Dustin Hightower they needed time to review a defense neuropsychologist's evaluation and possibly hire their own expert. The trial was pushed to August 3rd, 2026.

Bob Motta examines what this delay tells us about the state's confidence in their case. He addresses the double standard of the defense's continuance motion being denied while the prosecution gets seven months. He breaks down what it means when prosecutors signal they need to rebut a defense expert before even seeing the final report.

We also dig into what evidence has actually been disclosed — and what hasn't. No murder weapon. No forensics made public. Claims about disabled cameras that remain unproven. And social media activity being treated like a smoking gun.

Is this a case built on substance or press conference soundbites? Bob Motta gives his assessment and explains what both sides need to do before August.

  • FBI Agent Analyzes Sarah Grace Patrick Murder Trial & D4VD Grand Jury Evidence | Jennifer Coffindaffer Interview
The Sarah Grace Patrick murder trial begins January 5th in Carroll County, Georgia. She's seventeen years old, charged with killing her mother Kristin and stepfather James Brock in their sleep. Her little sister—five years old at the time—discovered the bodies. Sarah made the 911 call. Then came the TikToks, the outreach to true crime creators, the eulogy that made investigators uncomfortable. Five months later, she was in handcuffs. Prosecutors say they have "mountains of evidence." Her grandfather says nobody has put the gun in her hand.

In Los Angeles, musician D4VD remains silent while a grand jury hears witness after witness in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Her body was found in the trunk of his Tesla after sitting there for over a month in summer heat. Inside his Hollywood rental, investigators found a chainsaw never removed from its protective sheath and a burn cage incinerator still in the box. PI Steve Fischer says the plan got upended. The cause of death is still officially deferred. But prosecutor Beth Silverman is pushing forward—and the people in D4VD's orbit are starting to feel the pressure. His manager testified for days. A witness skipped her appearance and now faces a body attachment. Properties have been transferred. Everything has gone dark.

Former FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer breaks down both investigations—what the evidence actually shows, what's missing, and how prosecutors build cases when the physical evidence is thin but the behavior speaks volumes.
