  • Episode 26: Is it Time to Leave Higher Education? What Enrollment Managers Need to Know Before Switching Careers
In higher education, we talk a lot about the massive disruption happening in terms of how prospective students research, evaluate, and ultimately “buy” education. We talk less about the disruption happening on the professional side of things — the massive restructuring and regime changes affecting admissions and marketing folks at all levels, but especially at the graduate level. On this week’s episode, we feature a conversation between Zach Busekrus and Dr. Ray Lutzky on professional development and advancement in enrollment management. After spending 17+ years working in enrollment management, Dr. Lutzky decided to leave the higher education space and join InStride — a public-benefit corporation founded by Arizona State University. Lutzky vulnerably shares about the “glass ceiling” he hit when trying to advance from the director-level to the VP-level — his story and insights will be helpful to any higher education professional evaluating both their short-term and long-term career goals. - - - -

  • Episode 24: How to Recruit for a Diverse Pool of Graduate Programs as a One Woman Show
How do you best divide your time when you’re responsible for recruiting for more than 25 graduate programs as a one woman show? On this week’s episode of the Enrollify Podcast, Michelle Rubado shares a model she’s developed for how to get the content, goals, and insight she needs from faculty to successfully recruit for their programs. Michelle explains her “A, B, C” package model which forces faculty to choose from one of three promotional packages for each program Michelle recruits for. This has enabled clarity for all parties and resulted in a more sustainable recruitment process at the University of Rochester. - - - -

  • Episode 23: The Changing Relationship Between College Presidents and Their Brands
Bill Faust, Senior Partner and Chief Strategy Officer at Ologie, joins the Enrollify Podcast for a discussion on the growing importance of brand in higher education and how to get the “C-suite” (presidents and cabinet members) to become brand ambassadors. In a recent article published in Inside Higher Ed, Bill argued that the greater investment an institution makes in branding and marketing, the more active the university president must be. As institutions begin to decentralize communications in favor of more coordinated brand messaging and storytelling, leveraging their leadership figures as “Chief Storytellers”, “Chief Recruiters”, and “Chief Thought Leaders” has become crucial to marketing and enrollment success.
Take the example of Gordon Gee from West Virginia University or Michael Crow from Arizona State, and you’ll soon come to understand the power of a university whose president both internally and externally supports brand initiatives. We end the episode with a discussion on data-driven marketing and how to couple it with brand storytelling in order to reach the right prospective student at the right time, with the right messaging. - - - -

  • Episode 22: Everything Hinges on Marketing — A Conversation on Recruiting for Niche Programs with Edward J. Herrelko
Dr. Edward Herrelko has quite the diverse resume — some of his professional stints include working for Tony Robbins, leading a marketing agency, and working as a dean at Southern California Seminary. Edward is currently the Executive Director of Marketing & Communication, and the Chief Marketing Officer at Dallas Theological Seminary. Edward believes that “everything hinges on marketing” and that today’s graduate enrollment management teams must become experts in executing data-driven campaigns that out smart, not out spend, the competition — especially those enrollment managers who recruit for niche programs. Edward also shares ideas on how institutions can better the student experience to reduce friction — from initial inquiry all the way through graduation. - - - -

  • Episode 21: From ABC News Anchor to Higher Ed Marketer — An Interview with Emily Evans from Notre Dame
Emily has always loved telling stories.  After graduating with a degree in journalism from the University of Ohio, she got a job as a reporter at the local ABC in South Bend, Indiana.  After years of finding, crafting, and sharing local news stories with audiences in Indiana’s third largest city, Emily desired to tell a new kind of story — one that could have more of a direct impact on her community.  In May of this year, Emily took a job at Notre Dame as the Assistant Director of New Media to tell student stories in an attempt to attract new students to the university.  Tune in as she tells the story about her transition from television to enrollment marketing, how Notre Dame engages with prospective students on social media, and how to empower existing students to become brand ambassadors for your institution. - - - -

  • Episode 20: Developing a Strategic Enrollment Marketing Plan: The People, Processes, and Strategies Necessary for Success
This week, we feature a conversation with Corynn Myers, Digital Marketing Manager at the University of Michigan, who discusses the importance of data and the feedback loop in developing a high-powered, results-oriented marketing strategy. Corynn shares insight into why the University of Michigan decided to "break up" with their vendors and bring creative talent back in house and the important role data plays to connect otherwise siloed teams at her institution. Corynn challenges higher ed marketers and enrollment professionals to keep the data at the center of all discussions around how to allocate media spend and what strategies and tactics should be a part of an institution's omni-channel marketing mix. Finally, Corynn shares specific ideas on how enrollment marketers with little-to-no budget and/or little-to-no time can get started on launching data-driven marketing campaigns for student recruitment. - - - -

  • Episode 19: How Midland University Differentiates Themselves by HOW They Sell and Not Just WHAT They Sell
We sat down with Danielle Richter, Director of Marketing and Recruiting for Grad Professional Programs at Midland University, to discuss how to better the student experience from initial website inquiry through graduation. A couple of years ago, Danielle and her team decided to overhaul their internal processes for managing prospects, inquiries, and applicants. Midland decided that becoming known as “the helpful university” would be one of the ways they would differentiate themselves in the increasingly competitive market of small liberal arts schools. Danielle discusses the unique ways in which Midland approaches recruitment and advising, how they compete with the General Assembly's of the world, and what internal changes were required to ensure her team was equipped to deliver exceptional service throughout the enrollment journey and beyond. - - - -

So, you’ve heard of Slate — but you’re wondering whether or not it’s really worth the investment of time, money, and effort to make the switch to a new CRM. On this week’s episode of the Enrollify Podcast, we feature a conversation with Zach Campion from Marymount University on all things Slate. Zach has spent almost three years working in the platform and helped assist in the migration process from Marymount’s old CRM to Slate. Zach shares honest insights into what he wished he had known before moving to Slate, what enrollment managers —especially those at the graduate level — should look for in a CRM, the best features and benefits of the tool, and the problem with the underdeveloped bells and whistles of the platform.
