Lots at Stake In Israeli Elections
Guest: Matthew RJ Brodsky, Middle East expert, Geopolitical Analyst, Senior Fellow at the Security Studies Group
For ten straight years, Benjamin Netanyahu has been Israel’s Prime Minister and he’s hoping to continue that run in nationwide elections happening today. Voting has just ended and early exit polls show Netanyahu’s Likud party in a very close race with the primary opposition Blue and White Party for control of Israel’s parliament.
A Call for More Women in Trucking
Guest: Ellen Voie, President and CEO, Women in Trucking Association
Long-haul trucking is almost entirely a man’s world: something like 92-percent of truckers are men. But there’s also a big shortage of truck drivers in the US right now –so maybe women could fill some of those jobs?
Digital Heart Attacks: Medical Device Cybersecurity
Guest: Joshua Corman, Chief Security Officer at PTC, Founder of “IAmTheCavalry.org”
Before long, just about everything in the medical world will be running on software – and even connected to the internet. That already applies to pacemakers and insulin pumps and a host of devices used in hospitals. Which means that a hacker could theoretically kill a patient by taking control of those devices. That’s what Joshua Corman does. Well, not literally. He and other members of the grassroots organization “I Am the Cavalry” do hacking simulations to find vulnerable spots in medical systems.
Prescribing Nature for Depression and Anxiety
Guest: Megan Delaney, Assistant Professor in the Department of Professional Counseling, Monmouth University, Author of the Upcoming Book “Nature is Nurture: Counseling and the Natural World”
By some estimates, Americans spend 93% of their time indoors or in a car. That means we’re only spending half a day outside each week, and that may be taking a toll on our mental health. Some psychologists are now prescribing time outdoors for patients struggling with depression and anxiety. This new treatment is called “ecotherapy.”
The Year I Didn’t Eat
Guest: Samuel Pollen, Author, “The Year I Didn’t Eat”
Samuel Pollen got an eating disorder when he was just 12 years old. Now, almost two decades later, he has written a book about his thoughts and feelings in an attempt to describe what an eating disorder feels like. It’s called “The Year I Didn’t Eat.” It’s a fictional story about a boy named Max and his daily struggles with anorexia.
