  • JFD Rewind #9 - People Who Died

It's time for JFD Rewind Episode Number NINE!

As we perfunctorily/redundantly explain at the head of each of these annual compilation clip shows, your charming Junk Food Dinner hosts are unwilling and/or unable to perform their regular duties in this very hectic holiday time period. However, as has been explained prior, this inability to produce a new weekly show does not preclude us from our obligation to deliver some form of audio content to the feed.

So it's come to this again: yet another?!?!!$@#! Junk Food Dinner clip show. As we're fond of both the elements of surprise and laziness, we'll forgo the usual descriptors here as to what the actual contents of this cut-and-pasted effort truly are. If you're the sort of curious cat who'd actually donloyd this thing, you'll listen along with us and discover what made the cut for this year's compilation. And if not, you could still pretend you did and probably fool us.

That said, we're using this year's edition as a tribute to fallen heroes from this past year. If y'all love what ya hear, sign up for our Patreon thing to throw us a few bones (in exchange for some boners).

All this plus witty banter between friends, ghosts of podcast friendship, beast mode Kevin, zero Nerd Newsies, no week's DVD & blu-ray releases, partial confidentiality, continued lack of overt police involvement, newscasters aplenty, musical interludes, drippy noses, wanton sneezes, spooky belches, sinister gleeks and just enough more!

  • JFD649: The Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus, Max Headroom's Giant Christmas Turkey, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Happy Holidays, Junkies! JFD closes out the year with our annual holiday extravaganza where we'll be looking at three Christmas specials with some decidedly weird elements to them.
Up first, the final Rankin & Bass stop-motion Christmas special is a weird one. In The Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus from 1985 we find out Santa's origin story contains wizards, fairies, ape monsters and a tri-clops!
Next, once-popular AI spokesman Max Headroom hosts a very British holiday special with appearances by Dave Edmunds and Tina Turner in Max Headroom's Giant Christmas Turkey from 1986.
And finally, Disney tries to get us hyped for the next installment of Guardians franchise with a Christmas special featuring appearances by The Old 97's and Kevin Bacon in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special from 2022.
All this plus a bevy of holiday voicemails, catching up on this years movies, Kids vs Aliens, Warhammer news and a boatload of holiday spirit!

  • JFD648: Lensman, The Devil's Honey, Dude, Where's My Car?
This week: the standard JFD lineup is augmented by none other than Hatless Jackson (Stewart, director of Beyond the Gates!) to review a trio of non-standard flicks selected by the standard-bearers of bad taste (our Patreon donors)!

Up first! We're surprised to find out that Kevin is an otaku son of a bitch when he picks the 1984 anime flick Lensman, which is kind of a Star Wars rip-off (despite being based on books from the 30's). It's also got some wild early CG animation. Thanks Kevin E for picking it!

Next up! We head on over to Italy with Lucio Fulci and The Devil's Honey, (from 1986). It's the one where a guy tries to impregnate a lady using his saxophone. Thanks Mark From England for picking it!

Finally! Of course, it's 2000's Dude, Where's My Car?, because we continue to hail zoltan, against our better judgement. Thanks Josh H for picking it!

All this plus our recent moviegoing experiences including a report on The Beyond: The Composer's Cut, our recent videogame experiences including a report on Parker's ability to recreate his friends in pro wrestling games, pre-Avatar speculations, Kevin admits he "gets the appeal" of Tom Cruise, Kyle's remarkable sense of timing, early memories of the Japanimation craze, yuletide hold muzak, too many dudes, a special offer from your trusted VCR dealer, forgotten HBO shows, nerd news and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Violin Day, 2022!!

  • JFD645: Convoy, The Fog, Plaga Zombie: Zona Mutante
This week: the standard JFD lineup is back to review a trio of non-standard flicks selected by the standard-bearers of good taste (our Patreon donors)!

Up first! Audiences agree, Sam Peckinpah sure is good at smashing up mack trucks. It's the stick-it-to-the-man classic Convoy (from 1978, as all trucker movies are)! It's the classic tale of some tough-ass truckers hitting the road and outsmarting the coppers, all while passing by classic A&W Root Beer stands. Thanks Eamon for picking it!

Next up! We head on over to the California coastline with John Carpenter and The Fog, (from 1980). It's the one where a fog rolls up on a lighthouse, and there may or may not be pirate ghosts underneath it. Thanks Mickey for picking it!

Finally! Of course, it's 2001's Plaga Zombie: Zona Mutante, because we love neon orange colored zombies, especially Argentinian ones. Thanks Steve M for picking it!

All this plus the international toilet report, respecting the Japanese tourists of this podcast, soggy boatsmen, cb radio daze, nerd news and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Cranberry Relish Day, 2022!!

This week on Junk Food Dinner, while Sean is out exploring Japan, we go back to the original JFD recipe and conjure up the ghost of original JFD host Mr. Mark Freado Jr. to explore three very different flicks.nbsp; Up first, Count Dracula has opened his castle up to tourist in an attempt to find a rare blood type to bring his long dormant wife back to life. When he finds the blood type among a group from Playboy Magazine, he is able to bring her back, only this time she's black! Hijinks ensue in 1974's Old Dracula (AKA Vampira).nbsp; Then, we sample an 80's horror flick from Mexico (but filmed in Texas) about a group of college kids who accidentally raise the dead only to be picked off one by one and also put a young group of trick 'r treaters in danger in Cemetery of Terror from 1985.nbsp; And finally, we get the not-so-true story of the rise of America's foremost parody song writer in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story from 2022. All Schlocktober things come to an end, and that includes the month of the same name. But we're going out with some timely picks this week, in our tribute to Screaming (streaming) Video! Up first! As audiences around the globe puke their hearts out to the thralls of Terrifier 2, we creep back in time to 2013's for Art the Clown's feature debut: All Hallows' Eve! It's a Halloween-themed anthology, and coincidentally it's also a limb-ripping themed anthology. Next up! We head on over to Texas and/or Bulgaria and crack open a Lone Star or two with Texas Chainsaw Massacre, (from 2022). It's Leatherface vs Hipsterface in this Netflix-released slasher revival! Finally! Of course, it's 2022's Hellraiser, because we must think that pain is pleasure. • JFD640: House of Usher, The Haunted Palace, The Comedy of Terrors
It's the third week of Schlocktober and we're getting creepy with three 1960's gothic horrors from American International Pictures starring the King of Halloween, Vincent Price!nbsp; Up first, Price plays a mysterious and afflicted man living in a cursed castle with his sister, but when the sister's lover comes calling all hell breaks loose in House of Usher from 1960, based on the story by Edgar Allan Poe. Then, AIP combines mythology from H.P. Lovecraft and Poe in The Haunted Palacenbsp;from 1963 about a man who inherits an old mansion from his long deceased relative, not knowing the secrets it and the town around it possess. And finally, Price teams up with Peter Lorre as a couple of down on their luck funeral men who have to create customers, if you know what I mean, in the slapstick Comedy of Terrors from 1963, also starring Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone.
