  • JFD639: Werewolf of London, The Mummy's Tomb, Abbott and Costello Meet The Killer, Boris Karloff
Schlocktober can't be stopped! And this week it extends its spooky grip far beyond this mortal world and into the creepy universe of Universal Horror! Join us as we party Halloween-style with all the werewolfs, mummy's, and old-timey comedians that we can squeeze into our living room. Up first! We turn back the clocks to a simpler time when nobody had ever seen a werewolf movie before, with 1935's Werewolf of London, which served as inspiration over the years for countless things, including that time those dudes went to Trader Vic's or whatever. This one's got Henry Hull playing the werewolf, but don't worry if you ain't heard of the dude. He's still got fangs and claws in all the right places. Next up! We head on over to Egypt and crack open a casket or two with The Mummy's Tomb, (from 1942) one of those non-Karloff, Chaney-starring Mummy flicks, wherein a dead man in bandages walks again! And science can scarecly explain it! Finally! Of course, it's 1949's Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff, partially because we seem to be picking these movies in seven year intervals, partially because it's The Year of Karloff, and partially because Sean's fallen in love with grandpa comedians. Hey, it's got a cool cavern scene. All this plus mysteriously upgraded audio quality, the Las Vegas pre-party report, how we get Halloweened, Sweetman's bathtub bonanza, the Munsters is beloved by Bowman, no sneezes, spooky snacks & silly cereals, no burps, Jerry's friendly follow-up, The Fallen One's flick picks, no gleeks, the big boobs up in the sky, s'what's a swami anyhow?, nerd news and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Butterfly and Hummingbird Day, 2022!! Direct Donloyd Here We're giving away a rad KEVIN MOTH sculpture! Sign up for our Patreon to enter to win! • JFD637: Red Dawn, Walking the Edge, Snake Eater III: His Law
We say goodbye to Bicep-tember with three action-packed flicks picked by our fabulous (and probably very strong) Patreon donors. Up first, Patrick Swayze leads a group of reluctant teen soldiers (including Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey) against an invasion of Communists on American soil in Red Dawn from 1984.   Next, Robert Forster plays a down-on-his-luck cab driver and former baseball player who gets mixed up in a revenge plot by Nancy Kwan who is out to avenge the death of her husband and son by a gang of sleazy criminals in Walking the Edge from 1985.   Finally, we jump right into the third installment of Lorenzo Lamas' thrill-ogy of flicks about a former military expert for hire in Snake Eater III: His Law from 1992. All this plus Parker's Clerks 3 assessment, Kevin Smith's wardrobe choices, Dana Carvey chat, Toxic cookies, Ween chat, Matthew Sweetman calls in, we go hard for Godard, hot new blu-rays and so much more. • JFD636: So You Want to be a Muscle Man, Fight! Dragon, The Final Deletion
It might be short films week, but we're long on muscles, cuz it's still Biceptember in our hearts (and calendars). Join us, won't you, as we discuss these three meaty shorts? Up first! We turn back the clocks to a simpler time when a housewife could openly cuckold her weakling husband in favor of the local bodybuilding champion (Clarence Ross) in 1949's So You Want to be a Muscle Man. It's part of the Joe McDoakes series of shorts! But don't pretend like you know what the heck that means. Next up! We head on over to Hong Kong with the Japanese-produced, Chinese-set debut episode of Fight! Dragon, a rarely discussed 1974 kung fu TV series that features Bolo Yeung and other musclebound action stars! Finally! Of course, it's 2016's The Final Deletion, a famous wrestling "match" from those firecracker sports entertainers The Hardy Boyz! Brought to you by Impact Wrestling. (again, no pretending) All this plus medium bad skype audio quality, respecting the muscle men of this country, a very important Kevin Moth giveaway, a Barbarian theatrical scene report, Parker jumbles things around on his desk to disrupt the audio unwittingly, a Horrorhound Cincinnati Convention scene report, a Killer Klown Retail Bonanza, a patented combination of karate and aerobics, Lori Petty & "The Good Food", Sweetman & "The Bath Waters", Parker's open to new ideas about real world violence, return of the boo drop, nerd news and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Chocolate Milkshake Day, 2022!! Direct Donloyd Here We're giving away a rad KEVIN MOTH sculpture! Sign up for our Patreon to enter to win! • JFD634: Athena , Double Impact, Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell
This week we kick off the most muscle-y, sweatiest, action-packed month of the year Bicep-tember!  Up first, health nuts and bodybuilders get together to sing and dance in 1954's Athena.  Then, what's better than one Jean-Claude Van Damme? How about two JCVDs, as he plays estranged twins trying to avenge their parents' deaths and defeat a Hong Kong triad in Double Impact from 1991.  And finally, a weightlifter, his ex-girlfriend and a psychic investigate an old house haunted by the ghost of a murdered lover in the ultra-low budget Japanese Evil Dead homage, Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell from 1995. All this plus Kevin's adventures at the drive-in, Sean's fruit leather hack, Nerd News, hot blu-ray news, and so much more! • JFD632: Leave it to Beaver, Route 66, David
Welcome back, Junkies! We have three wholesome, obscure and surreal pieces of short art this week. First, Beaver Cleaver and his friends buy some gruesome shirts in "Leave it to Beaver: Monster Sweatshirt." Next, Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre and Lon Chaney Jr. get up to their old scares in "Route 66: Lizard's Leg And Owlet's Wing" Finally, a man contemplates life after learning he has a stone inside his body in "David: Story of David." • JFD631: The Ghoul, Night of the Ghouls, Ghoulies
This week, it's Ghoul Summer... well, kind of... if you're here for the rape, nipple torture, war crimes and vomit-play, well, first maybe take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself "Why am I like this?", but also you'll probably be slightly disappointed this year as we're taking Ghoul Summer quite literally and doing movies about actual ghouls!  Up first, Boris Karloff plays an Egyptologist on his death bed, but he possesses a sacred Egyptian artifact that may hold the key to immortality. However, he does eventually die and when he does, many people are interested in getting their hands of his artifacts. But Boris was right all along and returns from the grave as an undead fiend to exact his revenge in The Ghoul from 1933.  Next, Ed Wood assembles his usual gang of weirdos for another low-budget, but enjoyable horror romp in Night of the Ghouls from 1959. And finally, a man and his girlfriend move into his childhood home, not knowing it was formerly a house of Satanic worship. When the man decides to dabble in the dark arts himself, he summons some terrifying little creatures in the Empire Pictures classic Ghoulies from 1985.  All this plus Kevin supports local filmmakers, Parker takes in some fine art, a double dose of sad nerd news, beach-themed blu-rays and so much more. • JFD630: Watari the Ninja Boy, Targets, Death Proof
Y'all ever see that movie where a boy ninja schemes up a mass shooting at a drive-in with a bevy of 70s babes and souped up sports cars? Oh, maybe that was actually three different movies. Maybe the three we're reviewing this week. Up first! It's our debut exposure to Watari, famed Ninja Boy, a storied and legendary figure in Japanese fiction. Or at least it seems he should be? It's 1966 Watari, the Ninja Boy, from Toei! It's the one with the giant housecat decapitation sequence. Next up! We head on over to Reseda with Boris Karloff to catch a flick at the old drive in, with Peter Bogdonavich's debut feature Targets (from 1968). Sure, we're living in the midst of Vietnam era angst and social turmoil, but nothing could go wrong, right? Finally! Of course, it's 2007's Death Proof, featuring the most feminine footwork this side of a Cynthia Rothrock vehicle. And twice the vehicular homicides! All this plus Parker's mysterious future, JFD's Farts & Arts Corner, hard to nail down EC comics, the Horchata flavor revolution, a Peen on Screen news update, a Peen on Waffles news update, "Die Now Having Prospered", Parker Bowman is Poster Blowout, "Don't", nerd news and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Take a Penny / Leave a Penny Day, 2022!! Direct Donloyd Here Got a movie suggestion for the show, or better yet an opinion on next week's movies?
