  • JFD429: Africa: Blood and Guts, There's Something About The Johnsons, Found
Well, it's that time of year again, creeps, lock yourself in the basement, sharpen your razor blades and turn off the lights because it's Ghoul Summer! And this week, since Kevin chickened out, we are joined by Derrick from the All The Gimmicks podcast! Up first we dig into the gruesome world of animal poaching, tribal rituals and imperialism with the mondo documentary film Africa: Blood and Guts from 1966. Then, we find out what happens when a young man loves his father... too much in the short film There's Something About The Johnsons from 2011. And finally, things get extra ghoulish when a young boy finds out his troubled brother is a serial killer in the low-budget horror flick Found from 2012. All this plus shameless shilling, Ghoul Summer t-shirt talk, ghoulish Nerd News, problematic points of view and so much more! • JFD427: The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini, Cheerleaders Beach Party, Beach 24
It's Junk Food Dinner's Beach Party Bonanza this week, so break out the surfboards and meet us down by the old Frankie Avalon place for a never-ending evening filled big waves, big babes, and big fun. Embiggen your filmic horizons with another ramshackle selection of movies that may or may not even adhere to the prescribed theme! Hear the sounds of gentle Hawaiian guitars mixing in the ocean breeze! Be surprised by what some consider entertainment! It's an episode of JFD you'll never forget. And how better to celebrate a Beach Party week on the show than to sit down for a lengthy chat with Douglas Burke, director of SURFER (aka Surfer: Teen Confronts Fear)? Stick through our movie reviews to hear this life-affirming interview at the end of the episode, and then check out his website. There's nothing more fun in the summertime than supporting independent cinema. But first! It's 1966 and the Beach Party series of films is due for another entry, but the beaches are closed. What's a young Sam Arkoff and the boys at AIP to do?! Why, they've got it! They'll just film this here picture at the old abandoned house on the hill, the one which Mrs Cecily used to own? Yes, that'll do. They'll even get Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff, Nancy Sinatra, and a whole host of others to join them for their completely beach-free but not at all insanity-free Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (from 1966)! Next up! We've got the beach! See the kids just getting out of school? They can't wait to hang out and be cool - hang around 'til quarter after twelve, at a Cheerleader's Beach Party (from 1978). Although it's debatable whether any beach-based partying actually occurs, what is very certain is that these 70's cheerleaders sure were up to some sexual hijinks. Written by seasoned porno & sex-comedy specialist Chuck Vincent. Finally! What's more enticing than a 59-minute Nigerian Beach Party film? Well, you'll just have to hear our review of Beach 24 (from 2015) to find out. Directed by, produced by and starring Emmanuel Emumahdu. Also starring Cha Cha Eke Fanni, JNR Pope, Prince Eke, Denrele Edun, Ik Ogbonna, Daniel Lloyd, Sharon Frances and Anna Ebele Patricks. WATCH IT YOURSELF NOW (for free on YouTube)! All this plus steel drums, tropical breezes, chattering seabirds, Hawaiian percussion, rolling waves, surf guitar, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, mild Skype noises, no rides offered (or taken), genuine wonderment, deadly sea serpents and a whole lot more! • JFD426: House II, Dangerous Men, The Dragon Lives Again
Kevin's out this week so we're joined by Parker's Pool Party Radio cohort Jason Frisbie in New York and Jason's friend Cotton from Little Rock. Up first, the second film in the House franchise takes a decidedly different turn with new characters and a new house but things get even weirder as Jesse (Arye Gross) and his girlfriend Kate (Lar Park Lincoln) move into a house haunted by several strange ghost, including some of Jesse's deceased relatives in House II: The Second Story from 1986. Then, Iranian architect-turned-low budget fimmaker Jahangir Salehi Yeganehrad (under the pseudonym John S. Rad) brings us Dangerous Men, a movie that began filming in 1985 but never saw a large release until 30 years later in 2015 when Drafthouse films brought this crazy flick about a woman who goes on a revenge-fueled killing spree after her boyfriend is murdered to a wide audience. Finally, one of the most notorious "Bruceploitation" films The Dragon Lives Again from 197, in which Bruce Lee (played unconvincingly by Siu-Lung Leung) returns from the grave and teams up with The One-Armed Swordsman, Kain from Kung-Fu and Popeye the Sailor Man to fight Zatoichi (the blind swordsman), James Bond, The Godfather, Clint Eastwood, The Exorcist, Emmanuelle and Dracula! All this plus updates on Freado's text messages, Mission Impossible impressions, H.P. Lovecraft streaming service ideas, Breen on Screen, your new favorite entry in the Buddies series and so much more! • JFD424: The World's Greatest Sinner, Hannie Caulder, The Wages of Fear
This week, podcast impresario Parker Bowman has taken residency in New Vegas, leaving Kevin and Sean to fend for themselves. Not to fear, however, as they are joined by fabulous first-timer Chris Karnes, of JFD theme song fame! Donloyd now to hear our burning hot takes on three bizarre flicks! Firstly! If you've never sinned before, you might not be ready for The World's Greatest Sinner, from 1962. It's a film starring Timothy Carey, the meanest creature you ever seen. He's rotten to the core - honey, he's no beginner. He's the world's greatest sinner. Secondly! She was a fine girl, and she could get down with the get down (all the way down), but there's no chance Hannie Caulder from 1971 is gonna do yer laundry! She's a tough old-west broad who'll cut up any wild bunch of guys, even if said bunch is composed at least partially of Ernest Borgnine's bare chest. Raquel Welch stars in this rape-revenge cowgirl flick from the director of Suburban Commando. Thirdly! Wages of Fear from 1953; the bold & intelligent masters of the road with their secret language, and their giant over-sized mechanical trans-continental hobby horse. This black & white French grampa flick is actually a color-flashing, thunder-crashing, dynamite machine. All this plus some Joe Bob Briggs Marathon Updates, unexpected twists & turns, Wright State Mysteries at Hangar 13, we talk about that party with a hole in the wall again, the real Last Blockbuster Video, unapologetic Kevin, Whoopi for Prez, Sean calls a movie "a piece", Ernest Borgnine's theoretical nipples, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, varying bodysounds, no rides offered (or taken), off-mic nose whistling, imitation wonderment, muppet baby snakes and a whole lot more! • JFD423: Blow-Up, Blue Vengeance, American Angels: Baptism of Blood
Break out your vintage camera, your old heavy metal records and your female wrestling tapes because this episode of JFD really has something for everyone! Up first, Michelangelo Antonioni directs his first English-language flick about a photographer in swinging 60's London (played by David Hemmings) who captures, what appears to be a murder, while taking pictures in the park in Blow-Up from 1966. Next, a cop teams up with a punk rock photographer to track down an escaped mental patient who's going around New York City killing members of his favorite heavy metal band when they fail to join him in his Satanic pact in Blue Vengeance from 1989. And finally, a stripper turns pro-wrestler in the 1989 flick American Angels: Baptism of Blood. This movie is filled with female wrestling, midgets and long butts and is from the husband/wife directing team that brought us Gatorbait and Rocktober Blood. All this plus DisneyLand chat, Netflix nostalgia, Nic Refn's latest vanity project, Y'all Got Species calls and so much more! • JFD421: Terror of Tiny Town, Fastest Guitar Alive, Oblivion
Once upon a time, the West was Weird. And we were there. This podcast's proof! Firstly! Oh no, are things already stopping this low? We review the all-midget, all-musical cowboy fiasco The Terror of Tiny Town, from 1938. Results are about what you'd expect. Secondly! It's a weird day when Roy Orbison decides to star as a confederate bank robber with a guitar that transforms into a gun. And that day is the day they made The Fastest Guitar Alive from 1967. And we have it on good authority it was just that single day. Thirdly! We get caught in the Oblivion fever currently sweeping the nation, or something. You know, that 1994 Full Moon movie with the sick cast of weirdos. It's got a lizard man in the desert, what more do you want? All this plus some real wet stuff, witty banter between pals, summertime fun, the Tommy Wiseau update, videotapes without covers, impending Vinegar Syndrome restoration speculations, a rousingly on-topic round of listener Junk Mail including the triumphant return of Kyle from Kentucky, a case of the Skypiness, twice the amount of news-segment based controversies than other podcasts provide, some real Svankmajer moments, Kevin's waning attention span, weird beards & weirder wolves, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, varying bodysounds, no rides offered (or taken), off-mic nose whistling, genuine wonderment, a hidden snake and a whole lot more! • JFD420: Up in Smoke, Mallrats, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
It's our 420th episode, so you know we were obligated to do a stoner-themed episode, right? So. this week we travel back to our HIGH school daze and revisit some of the flicks we watched while blazin' out in our parents' basements. Up first, we take a trip with Cheech and Chong in one of the first stoner comedies ever Up in Smoke from 1978. Lou Adler (Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains) directs this pot themed romp about two dudes traveling around in a van made of weed. Next, Kevin Smith follows up his critically acclaimed debut Clerks with another (albeit higher budget) comedy about slacker dudes struggling to understand the opposite sex in Mallrats from 1995 starring Jason Lee, Shannon Doherty, Jeremy London and Michael Rooker. And finally, Johnny Depp plays Hunter S. Thompson taking a *trip* to Sin City with his attorney Dr. Gonzo played by Benicio Del Toro in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Terry Gilliam directs this psychedelic adaptation of Thompson's novel with a bold visual flare and far too many cameos to list here. All this plus dad chat, favorite stoner characters, the drive-in celebrates 85 years, Tales from the Hood part 2 chat, high school memories and so much more!
