  • JFD418: Blue Money, China Girl, Venus Flytrap
We could all pretend like a written introduction for this fine edition of Junk Food Dinner (guest-starring Justin of the Companeros Podcast) would suffice, or even provide a glimmer of insight into the contents therein. In reality, though, we all know that this kind of podcasting can't be described in a million words. But I guess we can at least tell you about the movies we've watched this week. Firstly! Take one lovable character actor with a perplexing musical career, throw in a bad Irish accent, a blow-up doll, and weird taxicab racism, and what do you get? A strange British TV movie found on the depths of the Internet. Seldom screened or shown state-side, see some super silly singing shit in 1985's Blue Money, starring Tim Curry! Secondly! We continue our exploration of the long and varied career of Abel Ferrara, as well as clear some space off Kevin Moss's borrowed VHS shelf, with 1987's China Girl! It's a classic Romeo and Juliet tale, transplanted to 80's NYC Chinatown and Little Italy, with a dash of sleaze and James Hong + David Caruso. But can Kevin Moss get past his known anti-Caruso bias? Thirdly! We get caught in the Venus Flytrap, also from 1987! This is some real weird and wild shot-on-video shit, and you should probably just buy it and watch it without even hearing the plot. Can it rival Blood Lake in terms of memorable jetski sequences? (no, it has none) All this plus some real wet stuff, witty banter between pals, pastrami on the back end, convenient loincloths, long-lasting hugging controversies, a suspicously-sourced attack on our heteronormality, the British football hooligan movie roundup, houseplant restraint, the violator gets randy, kevin's a good girl now, a love/hate relationship with total garbage, regional charms, shoulder-based sweater orientation, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, slime-filled farts, uber-belches, no rides offered (or taken), minor-key nose whistling, semi-fervent glances, freshly-squeezed fingernails, genuine fake-bat eyelashes and a whole lot more! • JFD417: Alphaville, Animal Instincts, Conspirators of Pleasure
This week things get spicy as we explore the existential, the erotic and the down-right weird, with three very different movies. Up first, Jean-Luc Godard explores a futuristic society where computers have taken over and emotions are outlawed in the black & white sci-fi noir flick Alphaville from 1965. Then, Shannon Whirry plays a wife neglected by her cop husband (Maxwell Caulfield) until they discover the erotic world of cuckoldry and voyeurism in the 1992 softcore Cinemax staple Animal Instincts from 1992 directed by Gregory Dark. And finally, we close out Svank-May-er with the truly bizarre Conspirators of Pleasure from 1996. This dialogue-less Czech film explores the weird sexual kinks of a group of loners who will do just about anything to get off. All this plus old people not being able to handle their weed, onion-flavored cotton candy, slasher movies where the killer quacks like a duck, Solo chat, puppet lawsuits and so much more! • JFD415: Transylvania 6-5000, Alice, Happiness
Gadzooks! It's an insane trio of creepy/weird/silly/horrifying films this week, as picked by our very own Patreon Pals! Listen along this week as we are driven very nearly to the edge of sanity by the demands of our beloved Dom Deluise Dudes. First up: we review that cult-classic Transylvania-themed horror/comedy with the fun song and the big boobs. No, not that one. It's Transylvania 6-5000 from (1985), and somehow Kevin Moss ain't never seen it before! Shouts-out to listener Mickey for picking it! Next! The SVANK-MAY-ER vertical theme continues across the month with our review of his first feature-length film, his 1988 adaptation of the classic Lewis Carroll tale Alice. It's like that classic wonderland tale, except everything you know and love has been replaced with rotting dead animal corpses and screaming baby dolls. You'll like it? Thanks, Evan. Finally! Parker Bowman confronts a hellish runtime, Sean Byron confronts hellish black comedy, and Kevin Moss confronts a hellishly short film role for Jon Lovitz in indie darling Todd Solondz's 1998 transgressive dramedy Happiness as per Joseph's wishes. Will they ever be the same? All this plus some real creep shit, witty banter between pals, the unheralded return of Shelby the Cobra, extremely extensive Wild Wild Country chats, Parker's memories of partying with dinosaurs and Jenny Lewis, checking checkboxes, a harrowing review of Super Troopers, Parker Bowman is a complicated man of two minds about a film, Skype Boobs, weird looking rooms, the edge of a podcasting axe, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, slime-filled coughs, uber-belches, no rides offered (or taken), minor-key nose whistling, semi-fervent glances, freshly-squeezed gleekspit, genuine fake-bat eyelashes and a whole lot more! Then, Jan Svankmajer adds his twisted blend of stop motion and live action to the classic Faust story in this 1994 arty surrealist hallucination. And finally, Norm MacDonald and Artie Lange play two losers who open a revenge-for-hire business in an attempt to raise money for their dying father (Jack Warden) in Dirty Work from 1998 directed by Bob Saget. All this plus Flesh Gordon t-shirts, fast food history, Movie Pass gripes, movie tie-in collectible glasses, TJ Miller being weird and so much more! • JFD412: Monsters Crash the Pajama Party, A*P*E*, Link
Oh, crap. APE-Ril is all over. Sorry about that. Please enjoy this final APE-ril episode as a consolation. It has lots of monkeys. First up: what is a Monsters Crash the Pajama Party, and what does it mean? And why are we watching it? All of this is answered within. From 1965. Next! What movie features a massive gorilla dancing like a doofus to the soothing sensations of stock cinema clips? Why only 1976's A*P*E*, aka King Kong's Great Counterattack; aka The New King Kong; aka a whole host of legally-challenge movie titles and then later Attack Of The Giant Horny Gorilla. It's a South Korean cash-grab released just before the official 76 King Kong remake, and it's sure got a lot of creative reuse of footage! Finally! Liz Shue risks getting a mean a mandible claw as she fights off at least one chimp (that's actually an orangutang) while trying to save at least one other chimp (that might actually be evil). It's a confusing movie, that's for sure. It's also for sure called Link, from 1986. Watch this one with a monkey you care about. All this plus maniacs who dress nicely, witty banter between pals, Cheers Chats, a caller tests the limits of Kevin's search box adventurousness, spooky urban legends, a spooky call from Wayne, vintage Ohio party chats, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, greasy coughs, mega-belches, no rides offered (or taken), minor-key nose whistling, fervent glances, freshly-squeezed gleekspit, fake-bat eyelashes and a whole lot more! • JFD411: Mighty Joe Young, Max Mon Amour, Mom, Can I Keep Her?
Grab your bananas, chimps! Ape-ril rolls right along as we take a look a three very different monkey movies! Up first,  the creative team behind King Kong, Ernest B. Schoedsack and Merian C. Next, we take a look at a very strange French movie about a dude who finds out his wife is having an affair with a chimpanzee and then invites said chimp to live with his family in Nagisa Ôshima's 1986 comedy(?) Max mon amour. And finally, schlockmiester Fred Olen Ray directs this silly kids movie about a kid (the oldest brother from Malcolm in the Middle) who finds a gorilla that has escaped from a sleazy circus promoter (wrestling's Terry Funk) in the 1998 straight-to-video Mom, Can I Keep Her? All this plus in-show controversies, Cinema Wasteland and Monsterpalooza recaps, Sean vows never to see Ready Player One, Kevin vows to never see another Bill Z. Bubb movie, Netflix theatrical drama, Perfect Strangers lies and so much more! Next, a chimp joins a hockey team and befriends a deaf girl in 2000's "MVP: Most Valuable Primate," a film made by the same director as "Spymate."
