  • JFD400
The 400th episode of Junk Food Dinner is here! We're joined by our brother Freado to discuss the secret origins of Junk Food Dinner. What movie were Mark and Kevin watching together when they decided to start a podcast? And how did Parker get involved? And how much did Sean have to threaten Mark to quit? All this and more! We also talk about Peppy LePew, get some very nice junk mails and pay tribute to our three favorite JFD callers. Then we're joined by Mike from VRTL Pros/Kissing Contest/Buncocky to induct some of our favorite people, places and things from the last 8 years into the Junk Food Dinner Hall of Fame. • JFD399: Watership Down, Skatetown USA, Norwegian Ninja
This week, the Patreon donors gave us their picks and we gave them to the Randomizer 5000 and got three movies that couldn't be any more different! Up first, it's the movie that traumatized a million children, Watership Down from 1978. What seems like an innocent cartoon about cute little bunnies turns out to be a violent and bleak story about the horror and reality of death. Next, we take a coked-up rollerskating tour of late-70's disco culture in Skatetown USA from 1979. Starring Patrick Swayze (in his first film role), Scott Baio, Marsha Brady herself Maureen McCormick and Billy fuckin' Barty, this colorful and zany time capsule has long been sought after by connoisseurs of vintage cheese. And finally, we examine the stylized true story (with plenty of artistic liberties taken) of Commander Arne Treholt who trains a clan of ninjas to save Norway during the Cold War in Norwegian Ninja from 2010. All this plus dashcam videos hit the big screen, Sean sees Phantom Thread for the 15th time, voicemails from the Pacific Northwest, Razzie Nominations, more awful dreck from the guy who did Werckmeister Harmonies and so much more! • JFD398: La Grande Bouffe, Real Genius, Only God Forgives
Some podcasts review movies they love. Other review movies they hate. Some podcasts review movies based on phases of the moon. Junk Food Dinner reviews movies that you wanna hear about, and this Patreon-selected episode this week is no exception! Please, enter this winter wonderland with a sense of whimsy in your heart. It'll be what you need to get through these dark days. First up! Listener Evan G provides us with reason to chat about fart noises for more time than usual, as he's had us watch and discuss the 1973 French/Italian proto-Ghoul flick La Grande Bouffe, in which a gaggle of bored Frenchmen consume large amounts of brown-looking fancy-food to the point of death, all whilst farting up a storm not seen since the days of the blitzkrieg. But is this french-person's attempt at satire tasty enough to bite into? We'll taste-test before you risk disappointment. And then! Patreon John T has suggested we review 1985's Real Genius, and we do just that! This prank-filled college flick is often compared to Revenge of the Nerds, but can it get by on a closet-bound John Gries alone? Finally! You'd better believe we're reviewing Only God Forgives from 2013, based on listener Chris B's suggestion. It's one of those movies with all of the weird surreal arty stuff that Sean and probably Kevin like, and Parker will probably hate. But who knows! The power of Nicolas Refn and Ryan Gosling may compel him. All this plus witty banter between pals, the podcast where an old man learns to love again, Nicolas Refn had a juggalo in his house today, the odds of cartoon fish monsters winning oscars, empty hotel celebrations, the only way Wayne's getting back on JFD ever again, National Pornographic Radio, the rank odor of randomization, the unemployment figures amongst the ranks of modern werewolves, the full-length version of Mant, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, all robbers no cops, semi-wet sneezes, super-mega belches, no rides offered (or taken), sandpaper armpit farts, super-musical beds, snide-ways glances, fresh-squeezed gleekspit and a whole lot more! • JFD397: Very Close Encounters of the 4th Kind, Shes so Fine!, Busty Cops
Happy Nude Year, Junkies! First up, the wacky Italian movie where nerdy students dress up like aliens to trick their science teacher into having sex with them! Very Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind from 1978! Next, a woman deals with the idiosyncrasies of her family, friends and weird strange punk rockers before getting married in "She's so Fine! from 1986. Finally, Jesse Jane, Nikki Nova and Angela Little are foxy police officers tasked with solving a murder in Jim Wynorski's 2004 film, "Busty Cops." All this, plus DVDs, Nerd News, Memphis Maniacs, Fallen Ones, Learning to Love Again, Kevin gets uncomfortable and we steal the mic from Tommy Wiseau. • JFD396: Good Time, Happy Death Day, The Villainess
We kick off 2018 by taking a look back at the year that was 2017 as we discuss our five favorite movies of the past year. Then we're joined by director and JFD listener Joe Badon who just recently completed his psychedelic low-budget debut The God Inside My Ear. Up first, brothers Benny and Josh Safdie take us inside the desperate world of a young low-life in New York (Robert Pattinson) who goes through a weird series of events trying to get his brother out of jail and find a Sprite bottle filled with LSD in Good Time. Next, can a PG-13 Groundhog Day-meets-Scream mash-up really be any good? We find out when we look at Happy Death Day about a college student who has to relive her birthday over and over again and find out who's trying to kill her. And finally, we take a look at the over-the-top South Korean action thriller The Villainess. In this crime story from director Byung-gil Jung, a female assassin (Ok-bin Kim) is captured by the Korean government and forced to work for them in order to protect her young daughter all while trying to find the person who murdered her father. All this plus legal weed in California chat, our thrilling New Year's Eve experiences, holiday voicemails, Skype noise, Parker has a cold again and so much more! • JFD395: X-Mas Massacre (AKA Last Stop on the Night Train), Get Santa, Better Watch Out
Do you hear what we hear? Pull up a seat by the fireplace and hear the bells with us, Junk Food Junkies. It's cold outside but we've specially formulated this podcast to cross-function as a travel-sized pocket warmer. Our patented yuletide blend includes: HEATED thoughts on Christmastime cheer, HEATED thoughts on I Tonya, HEATED thoughts on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, HEATED thoughts on Italian gas station payphones and so much more. We bring the hot Tupac jams. Will from Richmond brings a hot voicemail. Check out these hot cheeseburger sad-eyes. Hot Canadian voicemails from a Hot Canadian male voice. A basket of hot apples to denote cold-ass creeps. The bass player from the Goo Goo Dolls is a hot sucker for this kind of shit. It's the hottest seasonal podcast to melt your tongue right off that frozen metal pole, so tell all your friends. We also review a trio of Christmastime films, if that's something you'll believe! First up! All aboard Aldo Lado's loose remake of Last House on the Left, a stylish 1975 rape revenge flick mostly set aboard a long-distance European train line. It's a grim and grimy movie, known by several names, but we'll refer to it simply as Xmas Massacre and we'll speak quietly and slowly as we review it for you. And then! The next movie we review is Get Santa from 2014! Directed by Christopher Smith! From the UK! Finally! You'd better not cry, because we're reviewing Better Watch Out from 2017. It's one of those movies that we suggest you don't know anything about, and then we proceed to tell you everything about it. Watch out! All this plus witty banter between pals, blood running down legs, reasons why Parker chose his movie, spoiler: Santa gets hard in prison, much motherfucking California love, the national sickness, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, funny Skype business, no audible mention of police involvement, all-wet sneezes, super-mega belches, one ride offered (not taken), sandpaper armpit farts, Lemming droppings, snide-ways glances, lowfat vegetable gleeks and a whole lot more! Also! Check out proof you were looking for. Direct Donloyd Here Got a movie suggestion for the show, want to give your opinion on a movie we talked about or just want to tell us we suck? • JFD394: Maximum Overdrive, The Nest, Bullet
We're back with three picks from our friends on Patreon! First, machines, including semi trucks, become psycho killers when Earth passes through a comet in "Maximum Overdrive." Stephen King makes his directorial debut in this movie where Emelio Estevez stars as North Carolina's only hope against evil cars. Next, mutated cockroaches terrorize New England in "The Nest." Finally, Mickey Rourke is a tough ex-con who shoots heroin and feuds with Tupac in "Bullet." All this plus Nerd News, DVDs, Sean's fire stories, Voicemails, Parker has a cold again and so much more! • JFD393: Pop Aye, Another Yeti Love Story: Life on the Streets, 68 Kill
As 2017 draws to a close, the JFD boys take a look at three under-represented flicks from our current year to see how they stack up. Up first, Thai newcomer Kirsten Tan brings us Pop Aye, the story of a middle-aged man in Thailand who abandons his unfulfilling life to walk an elephant he knew as a child across the country back to his childhood home. Next, a man who draws penises has to save his yeti baby from a pimp in Another Yeti Love Story: Life on the Streets. As ridiculous as that plot sounds, it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the silliness involved in this over-the-top low-budget comedy. And finally, Trent Haaga, the writer of Citizen Toxie and Cheap Thrills, brings us 68 Kill that centers on a submissive dude whose domineering prostitute girlfriend pushes him into a stealing $68,000 from one of her customers. But when things go wrong, he finds himself in various violent situations at the hands of women. All this plus witty banter between friends, huge legal challenges to the Government, legitimate theater chat, space hippies, Junk Mail voicemails, our world famous weekly Nerd News and Blu-ray Picks, continued lack of overt police involvement, and a whole lot more! • JFD392: Cape Fear (1991), The Shaft (2001), Death Note (2017)
Haven't we been this way before? If this podcast lineup is sounding a little familiar, it's because this week we take a look at three of the most outrageous and interesting REMAKES we could find! First up! Cling onto your undercarriage, counselors. Things are getting tough and Nick Nolte is pushed to do some morally and legally questionable things to Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese's sorta-goofy remake of the classic thriller Cape Fear (this time, from 1992)! And we review it! And then! Week two of our Merry Dick Maas celebration! Last week, we all got Lifted with The Lift from 1983. This week, we're all getting Shafted with The Shaft from 2001! Take the freight car down to our spooky basement podcat recording studio where we'll regale you with tales of rollerblading gone awry and debate precisely which Dick Maas film is the canonical killer elevator flick. Finally Willem Dafoe provides the voice for the shadowy Ryuk (as in, you can't see him) in 2017's Death Note remake, directed by Adam Wingard and released on Netflix. And that's just about all we need to talk about for this one! All this plus witty banter between pals, those little Motorhead dots, Welf is a nice man and Parker braves the stores, poor Travis gets stood up, Parker never said that, real rich dudes dropping some paper on some papers, completely opposed views on Dick Maas movies, our weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, funny Skype business, no audible mention of police involvement, all-wet sneezes, super-mega belches, no rides offered or given, sandpaper armpit farts, it's a podcast, snide-ways glances, lotsa fat vegetable gleeks and a whole lot more! Also! Check out Tromasterpiece Theatre - "The Battle of Love's Return" (1971) on YouTube for some free funnies.
