A: You're not happy today, Tom. What's the matter?

B: Well, I failed the math examination. I feel quite ashamed to tell my parents about the results. 

A: I'm sorry to hear that. So far as I know, you've always been working hard.

B: Yes. I spend much time on it, but..

A: Tom, there's nothing to be ashamed of. You have done your best. You were just unlucky, you know. Cheer up! I'm sure you'll pass next time.

B: Thank you. 

Notes:

1.What's the matter?用来询问对方“怎么了？”，“发生什么事了？”，还可以说“What's wrong(with you)?”,“What's going on with you?”

2.fail有“使不及格”的意思。"fail the final exam"期末考试不及格；"fail the English exam"英语考试不及格。

3.ashamed“感到羞愧的”

be ashamed of...对...感到羞愧

You should be ashamed of yourself for telling such lies.

你应该为你撒谎而感到羞愧。

be/feel ashamed to...因惭愧而不情愿

I am ashamed to tell you that I failed the exam.

我很惭愧的告诉你我考试不及格。

4.spend time/effort/money/ on...在某事上发时间/努力/金钱

Translation:

你今天不太高兴，汤姆。怎么了？

哦，我数学考试没有及格。我感到很惭愧，不知道该怎么把考试结果告诉我父母。
