Today is a reflective episode. We've been podcasting for over four years now, and it's been a lesson in patience for us. Success for us has not been overnight for sure.We have now recorded over 230 podcasts (we have a few we never aired) and we finally hit over 1 million plays on June 21, 2022. In our first year, we had around 35,000 plays, and in the month of June we ended up with over 70,000....we are so blown away with the growth. Where do you see yourself in our industry 3 years from now? How much does your competition charge for a lash fill? Do they charge more than you or less than you? Do you think it matters what they charge?In our humble opinion what others charge for their services is not relevant. We see too many lash artists being concerned about what others charge and it stops them from charging a higher price. If you are providing an amazing experience and giving your clients lashes that last a long time, you can charge more than everyone in your community. Do you ever feel like quitting when things go wrong? Of course, you've felt that. We have all felt that from time to time. For me recently I was playing a video game with my grown-up kids and they were crushing me (I'm not the gamer I use to be)...and I wanted to quit because it's not a lot of fun to play a game when you suck. That said during the game I had to change my mindset to see that while I was losing the game, I could still enjoy the time I had with my kids (we rarely get to sit around and play video games anymore). Just being with them was a blessing. In today's episode, we are doing a replay from another podcast we were on recently. Adam Chatterley of the Beauty Business Podcast sits down with us and interviews us on how we keep going on when things don't quite pan out the way you wish. What's the key to getting better lash retention? Using a primer? Using a super bonder? Praying and hoping at the end of every appointment? For us, the key has always been a strong bond. If you can make a great bond, you won't need to use a primer, bonder, or sealant most of the time (actually we never use sealant). In today's episode, Tussanee talks about some of the misconceptions many lash artists have, and she breaks down her technique that allows most of her clients to go 4 to 5 weeks between their appointments. Most people online seem to focus on how to find new clients through social media but the best way we've found to get new clients is wow the ones you have. If your clients can go 4 weeks between appointments, they will brag about you to their friends who have seen their lash artist every 2 weeks. If you master lash retention you will be the most in-demand lash artist in your community which also means you get the be the most expensive. One of the biggest pain points we hear from lash artists is when clients come in with dirty lashes. As soon as they walk in you know your job just got a lot more difficult. Now instead of applying lashes, you might spend 5-20 minutes cleaning the client's lashes and then you feel the pressure to do a great fill with 25% less time. This scenario is stressful and with some clients can be super gross. How do most lash artists handle this situation? Online everyone says you need to fire the client but in reality, where most of us live...we just suck it up and clean the lashes...and then some of us give them more time to fill the lashes since we had to take so much time to clean the lashes. Dealing with clients who don't clean their lashes can be quite upsetting. In today's episode, Tussanee breaks down how she deals with her clients who come in with dirty lashes. Are you ever concerned with the amount of plastic our industry produces every year? 10 years ago I didn't really care, and why was that? Because I was pretty ignorant of how much damage plastic has caused in our environment and how it has impacted our health as a society. That said I watched a couple of documentaries over the last few years, and now I am much more aware of the horrible side effects that plastic has had on our world. The world of lashes is always evolving and while change can be scary...change often is what we need if we want to see this industry continue to grow.
