The average four-year old laughs 300 times a day while the average 40-year old laughs only about four times. It is time to change that! While laughing doesn’t erase our problems, it can make us more resilient and better deal with the challenges of life. Laughter increases oxygen intake, relaxes muscles and triggers the release of feel-good neurochemicals such as dopamine and serotonin. Studies have shown that it is “mirthful” laughter - not a nervous or polite chuckle - that boosts heart health, supports lymphatic flow, increases natural killer cells, and is a natural mood elevator. Laughter is contagious and strengthens relationships. Remember - life is all about relationships! Find more ways to laugh by seeking out fun people and looking for comedy in life. Profound, yet often underestimated, laughter is a free “nutrient” that we all need more of!
