Let Your Phone Be a Tool Not Your Master: Screen Detox Tips and Boundaries for Real Life

Listen Later

We can all use a little less screen time in our lives and the lives of our kids. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to know exactly where to start when attempting to set boundaries and help our families become less dependent on entertaining technology to get us through the day. After a particularly inspiring conversation with Collin Kartcher a few weeks ago (see link below to listen), we have, in this episode, taken the conversation even deeper and walk through how to apply the principles in real life. We discuss how screen boundaries have worked in our own homes with hacks and tips that we have found to be immensely helpful in keeping technology in the place of a useful tool instead of the master it has become in so many of our lives. We address not only how to find freedom from technology, but how to also foster the antidote to this dependence: connection with real humans, in real life.

Want to motivate yourself a bit more? Try plugging in your own daily screen time into the following equation. Pull out your phone, check your daily screen time (or, look at your daily social media time, or gaming time--whatever you feel like is just kind of fluff screen time). Then plug in that number of hours into this equation:

Daily Screen time X 365 (days in the year) X 50 (years) divided by 5,840 (awake hours a year, if you sleep 8 yours a night) = the amount of years of your life you will spend looking at your phone if you do the same amount for 50. (For people who average 5 hours per day, it is around 15 years total!)

Motivation? Found. Your welcome:)
