Loss of muscle is lethal in older people. It begins to go way up in the mid-60s. There is an increased risk of disability associated with falls. But this study in Nature magazine shows that the same risks for CV inflammation are also risks for muscle loss. The mechanism is not known. But it's believed to be loss of blood supply due to TN-F, MPO, Lp-Pla2,... In short - CV inflammation.
