Let's Talk: How to Be Emotionally Attractive in Relationships

Listen Later

In this episode of The SavvyCast we discuss 3 keys to becoming more emotionally attractive in our relationships.

Who is Kimberly Beam Holmes?

Kimberly is the founder of PIES University, a resource for those who want to grow in each area of attractiveness: physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. She is also the CEO of marriagehelper.com and works with her father, Dr. Joe Beam, to provide resources designed to save and strengthen marriages and create strong, stable families. She lives with her husband and two children in Nashville, Tennessee.

What makes someone attractive?

According to Kimberly, attractiveness is comprised of 4 areas: physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. She calls this the P.I.E.S.  To become attractive or desirable to be around, it is helpful to address each of these areas.

What is emotional attractiveness?

Emotional attractiveness can be measured by how other people feel when they are around us. We all want to feel good, and we seek relationships to that end. We choose friendships and relationships with those who make us feel emotions that we enjoy feeling.

What are the 3 Keys to Emotional Attractiveness?
  1. Being self aware.  We can't give to others what we can't give to ourselves. If we want to relate to others, we need to be emotionally healthy and self aware. Kimberly discusses choosing to move and grow past things that hold us back from being our healthiest selves. She shares resources for working on personal growth and emotional health.
  2. Putting the other person first. This is basically the key to being emotionally attractive to someone. Looking at him or her and asking, "what does he/she need right now?" This is easy, but it takes effort for those of us who tend to be self-centered.
  3. Practicing emotional health/attractiveness for the right reason. Even if we have a people in our lives who don't reciprocate, practicing being emotionally attractiveness makes US better regardless. So being intentional about being attractive to others is key, no matter what others do or don't do.
Where can I learn more about P.I.E.S.?
