The US Supreme Court ruled this week that employers cannot fire a worker for being gay or transgender. Two conservatives - Justice Neil Gorsuch and Chief Justice John Roberts – joined the court’s liberal minority to find that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects LGBT individuals from workplace discrimination. But in sub-Saharan Africa where malaria is particularly rampant, mosquitoes are becoming resistant to pesticides. In a rather strange twist, researchers have found tiny shards of volcanic glass do the trick even better.
