最近可口可乐推出了一款新可乐，它的瓶盖必须两个人一起才能打开（a bottle cap that you can’t open alone）。官方还为这种可乐盖子起了一个名字叫Friendship Cap（友谊瓶盖）。今天我们就来聊一聊这款特殊的新可乐。

01. What’s the Friendship Cap? 什么是“友谊瓶盖”？

The Friendship cap is a special cap.它需要两个人同时拧动（twist it together）才能打开。 

可口可乐公司这个设计有什么特殊用意呢？

它实际上是为了促进现实生活联系的一个活动（a campaign to promote real-life connections） — especially among university students. 这个设计推动人们多去建立线下的社交，也就是面对面社交（in-person socializing）。

People have to find someone to open this bottle together. 这样陌生人也能开启对话。因为如果你想喝，就需要找别人帮你打开。

但如果你是一个内向的“I人（an introvert）”，那情况就不一样了。很多网友调侃说：“作为一个社恐，我会默默地把瓶子放下。”

Some people may just stare at (盯着看) the bottle for 10 minutes before saying anything. 这种现象其实也反映了一个趋势——social anxiety（社交焦虑），这在年轻人中已经越来越常见。

02. Gen Z’s Social Anxiety 年轻人的社交焦虑

自从社交媒体开始越来越盛行（social media has been so predominant），人们已经越来越习惯独处和线上社交了。

Predominant /prɪˈdɑ:mɪnənt/ adj. 占主导地位的，占支配地位的

而面对面社交（in-person socializing）often makes the young generation (年轻一代人) 感到有些压力。

And these days, even small talk (闲聊) feels harder sometimes. 现在很多大学生都觉得开学初的“破冰活动（ice-breaking activities）”简直就是“高压现场”。

Ice-breaking activities are meant to (本意) help people get to know each other, 以此打破沉默和尴尬的气氛。但对于一些社恐来说，光是“自我介绍（self-introduction）”就能让人手心冒汗。

Online interaction (网络互动)现在成了主流。但在社交媒体流行之前，we had more in-person practice。现在人们都习惯于texting，DMs，and online chats。

DMs：是Direct Messages的缩写，就是社交平台里的私聊功能。

“Online confidence, offline panic” — that’s the new normal. 

“线上自信爆棚，线下秒变社恐”变成了新常态。

主播Meimei表示：How nervous she feels about in-person socializing depends on who she hangs out with. 如果对方本身的气场比较活跃，那她也能很快就活跃起来。But she will get very quiet when she meets new people for the first time.

主播Maelle表示：她是一个绝对的“E人”，she is pretty outgoing (外向的) in general, but she can get nervous sometimes too. 这有时也取决于社交场合（the setting）。

其实在各式各样的social media上浏览时间一长，我们能感受到它带来的影响。

03. Coca-Cola’s Smart Marketing 可口可乐的机智营销

可口可乐这次就是抓住了这个“社交痛点”，用一个创意的瓶盖让大家重新“面对面”的去互动。

It’s smart marketing (营销). People want connections, but also need a little “push” to make it happen. 有时候人们并不是不想交朋友，而是不知道怎么开始。这时候，一个“瓶盖”就成了一个“开口”的机会。

The Coca-Cola bottle becomes a kind of ice-breaker tool (打破沉默的工具) itself!

04. Social Habits: China vs. West 社交习惯：中西方差异

Social habits are different in China and the West. 

In China:

有些年轻人比较社恐，尤其是当他们面对陌生人的时候。但朋友之间如果一旦熟了，很快就能聊开了，甚至都能天天微信语音（send WeChat voice messages）、发表情包（send memes）、分享生活琐事（share little moments from our lives）……

In France:

Young people一开始比较慢热(a bit more reserved at first), especially in public. But once they know someone, it becomes really warm and open.

In America:

美国青年群体社交恐惧的比率也在直线上升（social anxiety is rising）。很多人想表现得很cool，但其实心里慌的不行。

所以，不管中西，其实大家都在寻找“更舒服”的社交方式。Everyone just wants to feel safe and seen (被看见).

So next time if you’re holding a Coca-Cola bottle with a friendship cap, it is an occasion (契机) to make a new friend! 也许对方也正鼓起勇气，想要开口认识你。
