Little Changes: Menopause & Disordered Eating with Dr Zoe Hodson

Listen Later

In this week's episode, Han is joined by Dr Zoe Hodson. Zoe is a GP with a Specialist Interest in Menopause. Through her practice, Zoe has noticed the lack of research conducted to understand the link between menopause and disordered eating, despite them commonly occurring as coinciding conditions. Zoe has now made it her mission to support those experiencing menopause, by promoting the development of a compassionate relationship with self, food and body.

This week, we discuss:

  • What do we mean by peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause, and the signs/symptoms people may experience.
  • The relationship Zoe observed between menopause and disordered eating due to psychological changes, body shape changes, sleep changes, hormonal changes and metabolism changes.
  • The importance of adjusting your exercise and diet to support your body and navigate menopause, which may go against the rules/values you have followed throughout your life.
  • The impact disordered eating can have on menopausal symptoms and the importance of putting your health first.
  • The importance of little changes, learning to listen to your body, and engaging in self-care when supporting yourself through menopause.
  • Support and interventions available for individuals who are experiencing menopause and how this can support disordered eating.

Zoe's book recommendations:

  • The Complete Guide to POI and Early Menopause by Dr Mandy Leonhardt & Dr Hannah Short
  • The Natural Menopause Method by Karen Newby
  • Second Spring by Kate Codrington
