  • The Power of Relativity

Here we look into how relativity plays a part in our perception of the good and the bad in our life.

    Topics
03:34 Suffering due to unmet expectations, current culture/environment, thoughts about our situation
05:32 Vehicle size analogy... feeling like everything is suddenly different and we can't cope with any of it
08:09 When we freak out, take a minute to think of all that is still the SAME
10:51 Heidi thought the smaller minivan would feel cramped, but due to the relative size of the vehicle to the roads, it didn't
13:26 Coming back to bigger vehicles did not feel like an upgrade
14:05 Sometimes things feel wrong because they're different
14:44 We don't need to feel the SAME all of the time to have things be RIGHT. Allow yourself to feel different at different times and for that to be RIGHT
15:32 Be open to changing our expectations for different times of the month and recognizing our capacity changes as well
18:04 The power of relativity in the people we choose to be around
19:21 Be picky about what we take into our mind (things we listen to)
20:05 Be aware of what we are taking into our bodies (food, etc)

  • When to Pause a Religious Practice

Sometimes we when we are unwell, taking a break from a religious practice keeps our relationship with God strong. Listen for five questions to consider when you feel a religious practice you're doing at the moment is straining your relationship with God. Our faith in Christ can be strengthened when we trust in Him to take care of us when we cannot do it ourselves.

    Take Aways
-Five questions to consider when a religious practice feels like it is taking you further from God.
    1. Am I feeling darker and more distant from God  now than I was before this thought popped into my head?
    2.  Is this specific thing intended to make me feel this way?
    3. Would Heavenly Father want me to feel this way?
    4. What good can come from this negative thinking?
    5. Could my PMDD symptoms be active? Then... a flag goes up that  I'm probably being particularly hard on myself and/or my thoughts are not leading toward a place I want to go.

    Topics
01:22 Story about negative thoughts interrupting Heidi's religious practice
06:07 Five questions to ask yourself when negativity springs up
10:13 Don't stop religious practices completely
10:23 Examples of when to pause certain practices
    10:27 Prayer
    12:57 Reading scriptures
    14:18 Church attendance
17:08 Consider what a loved one would counsel you to do in this situation
    21:58 The Cracked Sink Analogy

  • PMDD and Women's Health with Dr. Patrick Flynn of the Wellness Way

We have our first ever guest on the podcast today: Dr. Patrick Flynn of The Wellness Way. We discuss health in general, women’s health, PMDD, and some ways to help our bodies function better. There are a few swear words.

    Topics
    2:24 About Dr. Fynn
8:33 His focus on health and function
    8:53 Taking an investigative approach
    10:09 Health is function
12:58 Thoughts, Toxins, Trauma, multiple factors
    17:59 Rethinking “healthy”
20:38 Hormone fluctuations; the expectation of feeling “stable”24:10 Consequences of taking SSRI’s, birth control pills
27:17 You’ll have mood swings during cyclic years
    29:41 Immune responses
    34:07 PMDD vs PMS
36:31 Don’t be too attached to your diagnosis.
40:53 Just because it worked for someone else, doesn’t mean it will work for you.
41:12 Individuality is important with diagnosis and treatment
43:39 Where you live affects how your body responds
44:00 Your body is trying to adapt all the time
46:05 Ways to help your body
54:48 Organ meats, Sisandra, and Ashwagandha
    56:20 Insomnia issues
59:51 We have to compensate for our sassy behavior to our body
1:03:16 PMDD is t a response going on in your body

    Take Aways from Dr. Flynn

-Most women have a misconception of their body, are not well educated on it, and sometimes are downright lied to about it
-If women are really looking for health then they can’t just look at it from the standpoint of just trying not to die.
-There is no birth control, there is no, SSRI, there is no major medication that is going to help them recover out of it. It's just going to manage their suffering.
-I'm very frustrated with the whole aspect of when it comes to female care that estrogen is a demonized hormone. It's actually the basis for making women who they are.
-If we can start finding things that disrupt your function, we can figure out what's going on with your health and start to restore it.
-The concept that a woman thinks that she is going to be stable through a month is already misleading.
-What you're going to notice is when you start to normalize that function, there's going to be a significant amount of amazing changes in normalcy.
-Women don’t eat enough protein, don’t get enough sleep, and have way too much mental stress.
-Women should be in bed between 9-10 p.m.
-Your body is so brilliant and it's trying to adapt to everything you're doing
    -Support your liver

  • A Tribute to My Mom: Things I Wish My Mom Had Known Fifty Years Ago

This episode includes a lot of stories about Heidi's mom and her mom's positive impact on the world. Enjoy!

There are topics presented that are woven throughout and are noted below. Dr. Patrick Flynn will be with us NEXT week.

Things I wish my mom had known 50 years ago:

    1. Her value is immeasurable.
    2. The impact you’re having on the people around you is huge… it IS enough.
    3. It’s okay to not use all of your time and effort to try and make others happy.
    4. What you have to give is enough.
    5. Sometimes you’re doing a little too much.
    6. Keep valuing your listening skills and value listening to people.
    7. You can do less and it doesn’t mean that you are less.
    8. Your mom and dad are proud of you.
    9. Calling yourself “stupid” isn’t helpful and it is hurting you.
    10. You might have PMDD (which is or causes hormone imbalance) so when you’re having a hard time, try not to be so hard on yourself.

    What I’d tell her:

    1. Keep trusting yourself.
    2. Push for those things she really thinks are better her way.
    3. Thank you for the hours and hours that you listened to me.
    4. You following the Spirit will make a positive difference in your children’s lives and in many other people’s lives.
    5. You don’t have to do as much as you do, but you can.
    6. You are blessing people’s lives in whatever good you choose to do.

  • Experimenting vs. Expecting

In this episode, we uncover why having an experimenting perspective verses an expecting attitude is helpful.

02:47 Expectations can create negative feelings or positive feelings
03:43 Example of the good and bad results of Heidi's expectations at a doctor's appointment
05:44 STOP expecting others to be able to perfectly apply their knowledge, etc to YOU
07:08 Take responsibility for how things apply YOUR body
09:56 Brain shift: I am solving a problem to I am trying to solve a problem
10:15 Example from Heidi's recent food experimenting
18:40 Heidi's doctor adjusted her recommendations
20:52 Coming at things from an experimenting perspective is more relaxed and proactive. Try it!

  • February 2024 was ROUGH!

In today's episode, Heidi shares why her February was rough because of PMDD.  Along the way and at the end she shares things that helped her (and will help YOU!) deal with tough times regarding PMDD.

    Why it was rough:
    1. PMDD symptoms hit earlier than expected
    2. Period arrived 4 days early
    3. More PMDD symptoms after her period
    4. Sinus infection
    5. Celebrating two birthdays
    6. A poor night's sleep

Things that help in tough times:
    1. Recognize it could be PMDD symptoms flaring up
    2. Write factual things down... I did this. I didn't do this. (Example: I took a shower. I stayed in bed.)
    3. Write feelings but don't dwell on the negative or dark.
    4. Make conscious choices.  If research is needed, only research for a SHORT amount of time. (Example: Heidi looked up if she could take Sudafed while taking fluoxetine.)
    5. Keep committments and DON'T add more at this time.
    6. Ask for help (Heidi asked her daughter to decorate her son's cake.)
    7. Rest
    8. Exercise

  • PMDD as a Physical Limitation

Today, Heidi describes a bit about PMDD as a physical limitation, why it's confusing that it is a physical limitation, and an analogy that helps her when she feels she is not living up to her best self during her hard weeks. This does not go into the physical body and what is happening. Different doctors say different things so it's hard to know what is really happening. The body reacting differently to hormone changes seems the most likely reason for our PMDD active symptoms.

     Topics
1:06 PMDD as a physical limitation
1:28 It's confusing because the symptoms that disrupt our life are primarily in the mental and emotional arena rather than physical symptoms
6:12 Analogy of your arm falling off 10-15 days/month

     The LWWP Method
     1. Life coaching
     2. Medicine/Supplements/Vitamins
     3. Tracking
     4. Preparation
     5. Defaults
