  • Trying to be Happy

Have you tried to be happy? Are you trying harder to be happy than to be sad?

This episode explores where a simple request from her husband led her that day.

    Take Aways
-Actively trying to be something or feel a certain way is different than passively going at it.
-When trying to be happy, Heidi prioritized exercise, decreased sugar, focused on the task at hand.
-She reminded herself throughout the day that two things can be true at once: she's still struggling AND she's trying to be happy.
-When getting sad (at a time you don't want to), think of the person you're sad for... think of their strengths or a memory you have of them.

  • A Duty You Have To Your Child

Today we discuss the duty we have TO LIVE... especially in relation to showing our children one way to live right now.

    Take Aways
What we do matters, but us DOING and ENGAGING in life matters more.
It's easy to get caught up in, "Am I doing what's right for my child?"
We don't get to decide what lesson our children learn and in what manner they learn them.
A poor example may teach them better than an amazing example.
    Be sure to live!
Our children will make judgements based on us and interactions with us.
Believe that your child will gain the experience they need to learn the lessons they need.
Recognizing our duty to live is powerful to you (the parent) because... it means there isn't a way to get it "right" (they'll learn either way), it lifts the pressure of of you, and it can be inspiring rather than disheartening when we fall short of a personal expectation.
Loving them is the most important thing.

  • Enjoy Being a VIP

We miss out on the opportunity to SOAK IN and LOVE being a Very Important Person (a VIP) to others so much! Heidi shares some ideas on how to SOAK IT IN and how to recognize when the opportunity to ENJOY being a VIP is there.

    Take Aways
    - It is a great privilege to be a VIP to people in your life.

-Some of the people that bring us opportunities for joy & fun are also the people that bring the most opportunities for frustration, stress, and disappointment.
-YOU ARE A VIP TO SOMEONE. (Even to yourself counts.)
-Recognizing when a person is seeking our attention because they admire, love, or want our attention can help us decide what to do next and alleviate stress.
-To SOAK IN being a person's VIP...follow Heidi's "RAD" Process: Recognize, Acknowledge, Decide
-It feels amazing when you can soak in the positive influence you have on a child.
-When you are feeling down about yourself, follow the RAD Process.
    -Recognize you're feeling low
-Acknowledge the shortcoming(s) that are bothering you now and then acknowledge strengths you have and things you do that are good.
-Decide who you are a VIP to by considering, "Whose life is better because of me?" Think about that person, how you've helped them, and let light fill you inside as you think about the part you play/played in their life being better.
-More on applying the RAD process on Heidi's Business Facebook Page: Heidi Bradford Coaching.

  • Gentle Reminders

Heidi has been struggling with accepting some health challenges that some of her family members are experiencing. Some of the challenges are part of the "natural" aging process and another is not. Heidi lets you in on her thoughts and feelings over the past few weeks surrounding these circumstances and some beautiful reminders that came in the past few days to help her begin to feel some peace around these issues.

    Take Aways
-In the 1700's Samuel Johnson said, "People need to be reminded more often than they need to be instructed."
-Reminders and love from others are what helped Heidi through this difficult time.
-These things that come up in our life...when they come, it's still going to be hard. It isn't as though  just because they can happen and they do happen we don't feel sad, or angry, or humble, or inadequate.
-"Your value is your existence." -Brooke Castillo (LCS Mastermind, Sep 2024)
-"We are 100% valuable as we are and we can't increase that value." -Brooke Castillo (LCS Mastermind, Sep 2024)
-Somehow God knew I was going to need to hear this and He influenced it to be it in this conference (LCS Mastermind 2024) or influenced me to attend this conference so I could hear this.
-"Your worth is untouchable and always at 100%" -Christal Allen-Hallahill (LCS Mastermind, Sep 2024)
-Other reminders: People love me. They made time for Heidi and sent her well-wishes.
-This is the time for this.

  • 3 Things You Need to Be Okay

Sometimes it can seem like we need TONS of things to be able to handle life. Really, we just need THREE things.

    Take Aways
    -We need:
    1. Purpose
    2. Support
    3. Flexibility

-We need to believe we have purpose (or that there is purpose in each task we do).
    -We need to feel supported.
    -We need to be flexible.
-We can find purpose in simple tasks when we take time to look for the purpose in having the task accomplished.
-Support can come from outside of us or can come from within ourself.
-The blend of outside and inside support will vary throughout our life.
-Flexibility in how we think about a situation, the actions we take, and in our interpretation of the feelings we have about something are key to being okay in any situation.
-We want the ability to be okay in any situation so that we can grow and continue moving forward with life (not so that we can avoid negative emotions or dodge dealing with problems).

  • Menopause and PMDD

Here we explore menopause and our PMDD symptoms related to menopause. Key questions answered are: Will my PMDD symptoms end when I go through menopause? What to do if my PMDD symptoms haven't gone away and I'm finished with menopause?

    Websites Consulted
    https://www.womenshealthdenton.com/blog/4-benefits-of-menopause
    https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/introduction-to-menopause
    https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/menopause/symptoms-causes/syc-20353397
    https://iapmd.org/menopause

    Take Aways
-The thoughts we have and that we have practiced for a long time are going to affect if we still have PMDD symptoms even when the physical side of menopause is finished.
-Whether or not your PMDD symptoms persist, is very influenced by  what you do leading up to it.
-Making small adjustments to be a little bit healthier NOW will go a long way to improving your menopause experience.
-If you're still experiencing PMDD symptoms after menopause: 1. Get your hormones checked 2. Consider counseling, life coaching, and/or cognitive behavioral therapy.
-Be patient. Don't rush into decisions.
-Recognize that your brain feels it feels productive when it makes a decision. Don't make a BIG decision just to feel better and to feel productive.
-"Menopause is when periods stop for good. It's diagnosed after 12 months without a menstrual period, vaginal bleeding, or spotting." -Mayo Clinic
-Average age of women experiencing menopause is 51 in the United States.
-Menopause can happen as a result of: a natural decline of hormones, a surgery that removes the ovaries, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, POI (premature ovarian insufficiency), or chemical menopause.
-"It is the big drop in estrogen levels that causes most of the symptoms of menopause." -John Hopkins
-"It’s not uncommon to experience a renewed vigor for life in your postmenopausal years....Being free from the pressure that comes with reproductive years combined with coming out on the other side of menopause gives many women a newfound sense of empowerment and self-esteem. Women have more energy to focus on themselves, taking the opportunity to inventory their lives, relationships, and goals for the future." -4 Benefits of Menopause

  • Special Circumstance Stress

Listen in for ways to modify your thinking in times of high stress.

Click here for the pdf titled "Thoughts to Think" Heidi promised to give you.

    Take Aways
-For this podcast, a special circumstance is anything that takes us out of our normal routines and life practices
-Examples include: having a baby, moving to a new home, losing your job, moving in with your parents/in-laws/friends.
-In and of itself the circumstance is not positive or negative, but the thoughts we have about it can potentially add a lot of stress.
-Example: Heidi recently moved and lots of boxes still need to be unpacked. Normally she could tell herself, "Just buckle down for ten minutes and this room will be cleaned up." But because of her special circumstance of recently moving in and still having boxes everywhere, that thought won't help her. Instead she thinks, "Let's do ten minutes; it will make a difference," and she created a chart where she has the total number of boxes to be unpacked written down and she crosses off a number each time she unloads a box.
-When you notice thoughts like, "Why isn't it working? It worked before." Shift to: It is not working now. What do I think will work this time?
-Listen to your own wisdom.  It can be so simple. It can just  come to you. Take it and run with it.
-Another helpful thought when feeling confused or stuck about a particular thing or decision: What if it were easy?
-When wanting everything to be done right now...Ask yourself, "What really needs to be right now?" This is helpful for when you feel overwhelmed.
-We don't want to not acknowledge our feelings.  We also don't just want to spin in confusion, indecision, or sadness for too long.
-You can channel your inner _____ (insert person's name here) when you're struggling to do or be something that's hard for you but you think and witness another person do it so well.

  • Personality Tests

Have you wondered if your personality changes when your PMDD symptoms are active? In this episode, Heidi talks about the results of a personality test considering her current non-PMDD symptoms mood vs her mood when her symptoms are active.

Here is the True Colors Personality Test which Heidi talks about. Personality tests can be fun and somewhat informative. 🙂

    Take Aways
-There are four personality colors discussed: BLUE, GREEN, ORANGE, GOLD.
-When Heidi's PMDD symptoms are not active, Blue is her top color and Orange is her second most color.
-When her PMDD symptoms are active, Green is her top color and Gold is her secondary color.
-It's good to know this! Give yourself grace!
-"What matters to me and how I think is different when my PMDD symptoms are active."
-Things that are different based on Heidi's cycle and symptoms are: decision-making, likes/dislikes, how much she wants to interact with others, how she feels cared about by others, and her communication skills.
-Let yourself shift to that other version of you.
