We should start by saying the Avalanche did the most important thing in Game 3 against the St. Louis Blues and that was win the game, giving them a 2-1 lead in the series and taking back home ice. Now that we have that out of the way Game 3 in all likelihood will be a tipping point in the series. Up until now both teams have been pretty much on their best behavior. But two plays in Game 3 speak to a different tone.
The first was Samuel Girard getting checked hard into the boards by Ivan Barbashev. Girard immediately went down, did not return and we later found out he will be out the remainder of the year with a broken sternum.
A little later, Nazem Kadri, going for a loose puck right in front of the net, collided with Blues defenseman Calle Rosen who was also trying to play the puck. The momentum of both players carried them into goalie Jordan Binnington who also left the game and did not return. We found out later Binnington will not be back for the remainder of this series.
The talk on social media, because it's Nazem Kadri, is that the play on Binnington was deliberate and dirty. Why? Simply because he wears the name Kadri on his back.

Well the Colorado Avalanche were going to lose a game at some point in the post season, and you could argue you would have rather they lost in this fashion since it doesn't hurt as bad as a close game or losing in a playoff OT game. The Avs looked disjointed for most of the game. Some of that is to the credit of the St. Louis Blues who played a much better game than they did in Game 1. We knew this was going to be a dog fight and a chess match and the Blues moved their pieces in a much different fashion than Game 1 and it showed.
But for the Avalanche, they could never sustain any positive momentum they sometimes had in a shift. It would never carry over to the next shift. It was some good here, but a lot of bad over there. No consistency and that showed too.
Now the series heads back to St. Louis where the Avs will need to win on their ice to take back the home ice advantage.

We might be a game into our series with the St. Louis Blues, but sometimes that is the best time to meet up with the host of your opponent. Thomas Welch, one half of the Locked on Blues crew, joins Chris and Kyle for a special crossover episode to discuss how things went in game one for their respective teams and what to look forward to in the rest of the series.
Did the loss to the Blues change the way Thomas looks at the series or does he think St. Louis can make the proper adjustments to steal Game 2 in Denver. Does he have concern about the hit posts from shots that got past Binnington or does he feel like that happened due to proper positioning?
All that and Funko Pop figures!

The Colorado Avalanche showed no rust as they took the ice for the first time in a week against the St. Louis Blues in Game 1 of their second round matchup. The Avs completely dominated for the vast majority of the game, but Blues goalie Jordan Binnington kept the Blues from getting run out of the arena. And when a hockey games goes into OT, anything can happen.
Luckily, it happened for the Avalanche as Josh Manson fired a shot from inside the blue line that found it's way past Binnington and into the net to end game one, 3-2.
Val Nichushkin and Samuel Girard also found pay dirt for Colorado, who fired 54 shots on goal to remain unbeaten in the playoffs.
Now the Avs look to take a 2-0 lead on Thursday and match last years start to the playoffs of six straight. But we don't want a recreation of what happened after that 6th game now do we?

Round two is upon us! The wait is over. The Colorado Avalanche are set to take on the St. Louis Blues tonight in game 1 of their second round series. The Avalanche are rested and ready to roll after having over a week off after completing the sweep of the Nashville Predators and now they look that elusive second round victory in the eyes.
So who do we feel needs to step up in order to take this series away from the Blues? We each have our picks
We as Avalanche fans are very accustomed to not getting as much publicity as we would like in the eyes of the media. Well be prepared for that to kick into high gear in round two as the Avalanche and Blues are up against the Battle for Alberta, the two time defending champs vs the Presidents' Trophy winners and an Original 6 team vs everyone's darling Canes.
Either way, Avalanche hockey is back! Tune in, subscribe and enjoy!

The Colorado Avalanche have been waiting patiently while their fan base waits impatiently to hear when exactly Game 1 against the St. Louis Blues will happen. Coach Jared Bednar stated he heard the series would start on Tuesday but there was also the possibility it could start Wednesday. No matter when it starts it will be the beginning of the round that has haunted the Avs for a few years now. So how do they matchup against St. Louis?
The Blues have as much depth as the Avs and can score in similar fashion to the them as well. Where the Avs have the advantage in on the defensive side. The Blues will struggle defensively against a high powered offense, which is exactly what the Avs are. If these games get into high scoring affairs, it would have to favor the Avalanche because of this factor.
On the goalie side, Darcy Kuemper seems to be just fine and ready to go for Game 1. So we should expect him to pick up right where he left off prior to the injury. Jordan Binnington on the other hand did have a solid first round against Minnesota, but has struggled to keep the Avs off the board as of late.
Get ready for a great 2nd round! Whenever it may start!

The votes must be in prior to the playoffs starting for all the NHL awards, and while Cale Makar is a finalist for the Norris Trophy, the vibe you get is that voters are favoring Roman Josi thanks to his 96 point season. And while votes can't be changed, have voters looked at what happened in round one between the Nashville Predators and Colorado Avalanche, and more specifically Roman Josi and Cale Makar and have that already impacting them for next season? We discuss.
We have also gotten used to Joe Sakic and Jared Bednar getting snubbed for their respective awards. While we don't expect Jared Bednar to be a finalist for coach of the year, we are going full conspiracy theory mode if Joe Sakic is once again overlooked. We will find out soon.
Finally, since we have had several days off thanks to the Avs sweep, we have had time to catch up on some shows. While Chris enjoyed the Ozark finale, he was left wanting more from the final scene, which leads us to our discussion on which shows had the best series endings ever.

The Colorado Avalanche remain the only team to have moved on to the second round of the NHL Playoffs. Us at the Locked on NHL Network polled our hosts to get a power ranking of the teams still playing and Chris and Kyle discuss those rankings. What they agree with, what they don't and where teams could potentially end up.
We also take listener questions from Instagram which include our favorite Avalanche sweater ever? Since we lived through the Avs two championships, what does that feel like? And what Andre Burakovsky will the Avs get in the second round?

The Colorado Avalanche have some time to kill as they wait for their next opponent in the St. Louis Blues or Minnesota Wild. Chris and Kyle discuss who they feel the Avs match up better with, but does that metric line up with who they would actually like to see the Avs play?
We also take a look around the Western Conference and the other series that are still taking place. The Avalanche didn't seem to get the memo that their series should be tied at 2-2 since most of the other series were.
Finally, who throws Skittles? And who throws Skittles at Cale Makar no less? We talk about which candy we hate the most that we would have no problem chucking at someone. Never at someone on the ice or field though.

For the second time in as many years the Colorado Avalanche swept their first round opponent in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This time the Nashville Predators were the victim and now the Avs wait for their second round opponent which we know will be another division rival in either St. Louis or Minnesota.
For the first time all series the Avalanche trailed to the Preds, but Colorado didn't panic, continued to play their game and found not one, but three more goals in the 3rd period to seal the series.
Rest is always a good thing when it comes to the playoffs and now the Avalanche will have about a weeks worth of it, and you know guys like Darcy Kuemper are looking forward to the next round while being 100 % healthy.
Chris and Kyle break it all down!
