Inside today's Locked on Canadiens:

The Montreal Canadiens finally won a game! Sure they shouldn't have because of the ongoing tank but, at the same time it's a feel-good win for a Canadiens team that hasn't had many. Jeff Petry and Mike Hoffman combined for three goals en route to a 4-3 win in New York, and it was a poor result for draft purposes, until it suddenly wasn't.

Montreal has clinched last place in the NHL, thanks in part to the Arizona Coyotes pulling off a stunning comeback against the Dallas Stars. So Montreal now has the best overall odds to pick first overall, how does this change the team outlook for Friday's game against Florida and for the off-season? Now another question rises, does a strong end to the year create a stronger trade market for players like Petry and Hoffman heading into the off-season? On the other hand, is there a way to keep Petry going into the rebuild as the defender has looked a lot better under Martin St. Louis.

Also, the Western Conference got another shock as well as the Vegas Golden Knights were eliminated from postseason contention by the Dallas Stars making it to overtime against Arizona. Scott and Laura take a look at what this means for their franchise, and how the notion of going for it every single year can lead to a rough situation when it all goes wrong. Vegas now faces a long summer where they're forced to deal with an upset starting goaltender, still being over the cap, and not having a stocked cupboard of prospects to fall back on as well.

Carey Price is travelling to New York with the Montreal Canadiens for an evaluation on his knee and we discuss what that might mean, and then we talk about what happens if the Habs do not win the first overall pick in the lottery for the 2022 NHL Entry draft. What options do the Canadiens have this offseason when it comes to goaltending and Carey Price's contract? What names should the Habs look at if they cannot draft Shane Wright? Plus, we talk about the Vegas Golden Knights' treatment of Robin Lehner and preview some of our upcoming content for when the games are over.

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens

The Laval Rocket have clinched a spot in the AHL's Calder Cup Playoffs, the first in franchise history and first appearance for a Canadiens affiliate since 2017. Scott breaks down how the Rocket's final three games still have a ton of meaning for seeding purposes, and how the team can hopefully use their clinching to overcome their current slump. Also, who is playing goalie this week in their final series of games?

Speaking of goalies, Carey Price is not travelling to New York with the Habs, leaving Cayden Primeau as the backup to Samuel Montembeault. This of course has some ripples all the way down to the ECHL, and the host discuss what kind of impact it may have. Scott is also worried that maybe things aren't as benign as believed, and that if that is the case, the Habs have a very big decision to make with Price in the off-season. Laura is more optimistic, noting that Carey and the team knew this would be a long road back to full strength in net.

Finally, it was a disastrous week for NHL officials across the entire league, with dubious penalty shot calls, hand passes leading to goals that should not have counted and more. With the playoffs starting soon both hosts are concerned that the story will once again be poor officiating, and not actual hockey in the postseason. What can be done to actually create a baseline standard of officiating, and how soon can the sport of hockey make it happen?

On today's episode we talk about the tribute to Guy Lafleur that the Canadiens put together before the Habs - Bruins game, and then we have our weekly 3 Up and 3 Down segment. It was an emotional night at the Bell Centre as the Habs paid tribute to a true legend of the game of hockey. We discuss what it was like to both be there and to be watching from afar. We also discussed the weekly 3 Up and 3 Down, in which we talked officiating, Mike Hoffman, Nick Suzuki, the Laval Rocket, and, of course, Guy Lafleur.

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens:

The Montreal Canadiens lost 6-3 to the Philadelphia Flyers, securing themselves a bottom three finish in the NHL this year. Pushing a disappointing effort aside, Scott and Laura discuss if the team is going to be able to win a game for Carey Price this year or not. Scott thinks giving Price the game against Ottawa makes sense, while Laura believes that Carey might be saving his best for a showdown with the hated Boston Bruins on Sunday. However, the question remains, can Montreal win at least one game for Carey Price this year?

After that it's a supersized Friday Mailbag where the hosts discuss the forward core next year, what they've learned while podcasting, and how to escape a hostage situation with...Disney songs?

The NHL has announced the NHL Draft Lottery is taking place on May 10 and we discuss the Montreal Canadiens' odds of getting the first overall pick and drafting Shane Wright. The Habs have called up Rafael Harvey-Pinard and we discuss what he might bring to the lineup. They have also sent Corey Schueneman back down to Laval. Finally, we discuss the view that the Canadiens are no better under Martin St. Louis than they were under Dominique Ducharme and why that is sorely misguided.

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens:

The Montreal Canadiens had a tough task ahead of them on Tuesday night as the Minnesota Wild rolled into the Bell Centre. The game was another frustrating one as the Habs offence never found any legs to support a strong start from Carey Price in net. Losing 2-0 isn't the worst thing against a strong Minnesota team, but it leaves a slightly bitter taste as both hosts want to see a bit more fight down the stretch. Scott also has a lot of words for the Wild calling timeout for a power play with the game already well in hand, and then failing to score on said power play as well.

One of the hottest topics around the Montreal Canadiens is how the team can get under the cap next season, and that the easy way out is to continue leaving Shea Weber on LTIR. However, there is a bit of miscommunication surrounding it, as the Canadiens cannot LTIR cap relief just by simply putting a player there. Scott and Laura break down the steps the team can take to either move his contract or utilize it in a way to gain LTIR relief.

The hosts also discuss the sudden reappearance of narratives about Carey Price and which languages he chooses to speak to the media. For a player who has spent 17 years in the Canadiens organization this attack on the character of a franchise icon is a disgrace, and Scott quite frankly has had enough. The hosts discuss why the attack against Price and any other Canadiens player is uncalled for, and why at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what language they speak.
