Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians episodes

May 18, 2022Cleveland Guardians Nearly Comeback but the Bullpen Gives the Reds the W. You have to Beat the Reds
We do another live jump-in to talk about the Cleveland Guardians facing the Cincinnati Reds. The Guardians are losing this one, but it is the Reds they should find a way to win it. Also, stop freaking sliding into first base.
It’s time for the Wednesday wrap-up, so we get into some draft talk while also following this game in the 9th inning. We talk about the players at the top, the clear tier of talent that exists to me. We also have some University of Tennessee talk, while I explain why it is that I am in the minority for preferring Drew Gilbert as the top draft prospect. We also talk about Logan Allen being released again and JC Mejia being suspended for 80 games.
The Owen Miller home run set us up for disappointment. The Guardians make the interesting choice to bring in the reliever with the worst control on the entire team to pitch when you have a runner on second in extra innings.

May 17, 2022Get to Know Yohan Ramirez and Gavin Williams Plus a Cincinnati Reds Preview
The 40 man was already packed to the brim and the Guardians added another arm in Yohan Ramirez. We explain why they added him, what he brings, and what the Guardians are hoping to net. He is another lotto ticket like Castro, De Los Santos, and Oviedo. We also dig into James Karinchak’s situation and what it means that he has pitched nine innings in the last nine months.
We talk about the great Akron Rubberducks rotation as it got even better with the promotion of Gavin Williams who is on his way to battling with Espino for the title of top pitching prospect in the system. We discuss who the top three arms are all in AA and how and why none of them are likely to help the Guardians this year or even next.
We end with a preview of the Cincinnati Reds who are not only the worst team in baseball but are also incredibly beat up. We talk about why this should be a two-game sweep for the Guardians.

May 16, 2022Twin Killings Cleveland Guardians Drop Two to the Minnesota Twins and Fall Below .500
The focus is on the weekend in general and Aaron Civale in particular. Why is it that he has struggled so much, and what has gone so wrong? We dig into the numbers and why it is that he is getting so much more leeway in terms of the overall discussion when he has been showing some varying degrees of regression for multiple years.
We then focus on the first two games of the series, both games the Cleveland Guardians could have won with some better breaks. The Guardians scored more runs in the first game than they would go on to score in the next two. After this, we talk about one of Shane Bieber’s best performances of the year.
The Guardians consistently had more base runners than the Twins during this series but could not put it all together to win the series instead they dropped two of three and ended up under .500. We also talk about the mess that is the Cincinnati Reds, before the full preview in tomorrow's show.

May 13, 2022What is Wrong with Shane Bieber? Are there any Coaches left for the Guardians?
We talk about nearly the entire coaching staff being part of the Health and Safety Protocols, leaving this weekend to be managed by Carl Willis. It’s an unusual situation to see no players but nearly the entire coaching staff being placed on the Health and Safety list. We do talk about the one player still on that list Yu Chang and what his future with the Guardians might hold.
We preview the series against the first-place Minnesota Twins. While the Twins are in first they are also one of the most beat-up teams in the game right now. All of the injuries are part of the reason I think the Guardians have a very good chance in this series.
I end by talking for a while about Shane Bieber, and why there is no chance he would be traded any time soon. What could be wrong with him? Also why the idea of extension is just implausible for half a dozen different reasons. We also talk a little about the draft and the recent mocks from MLB.com.

May 12, 2022Cleveland Guardians Vs. the Chicago White Sox Delayed Due to COVID. How Long until Baseball is back?
The Cleveland Guardians game against the Chicago White Sox was canceled due to the number of COVID cases among the team. We don’t know the details yet outside of Terry Francona being one of the people who has tested positive. The lack of updated information is a bit concerning regarding the number of potential cases.
We look at the numbers to talk about what has gone right for the Guardians. The breakout of several young players along with the bullpen transformation has this team looking a lot better than anyone expected. We talk about what has worked and where this team needs to improve.
We then look into the catcher position which is still the biggest weakness for the Guardians. We talk about Sean Murphy, an Ohio kid who is excelling for the Oakland Athletics. But the cost is likely too great to acquire him, so instead, we focus on the same trade talk with the Chicago Cubs that I have been talking about since November. Ian Happ and Willson Contreras are hitting and adding those two players would transform the Guardians lineup and cost less than a player like Murphy.

May 11, 2022Cleveland Guardians Fall to the Chicago White Sox: For the LOVE OF GOD DON'T SLIDE INTO FIRST
We join the Guardians game in progress and hope to bring more good luck as it has been a rough game to watch with defensive miscues galore and a lack of offense. We talk about what has gone well, Amed Rosario and Josh Naylor and what has gone poorly, defense and the annoying front row fans.
Next we continue to track the game while discussing the top pitchers in the Guardians minors leagues. The starting pitching in the majors has disappointed but the minors has a number of pitchers performing extremely well with Gavin Williams and Logan Allen standing out as players who should be due for a promotion by the midseason mark. We also focus on Peyton Battenfield who should end up seeing time in the majors this year.
We end in the 9th where things look good until they don’t. We discuss WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER SLIDE going into first base. There were a lot of reasons the Guardians lost this game, but they had a chance to extend it and didn’t. We get into the physics of why one should never slide into first unless avoiding a tag ever.

May 10, 2022GUARDIANS WIN: GAME OF THE YEAR, COME BACK OF THE YEAR JOSH NAYLOR ISN'T HUMAN, BACK BREAKING WIN
I start recording tonight as the 9th inning begins with the Cleveland Guardians trailing the Chicago White Sox. Andres Gimenez goes deep and I apologize for not starting earlier, little did I know what Josh Naylor had in store. I figured it looked like a loss for the Guardians so sit tight and enjoy as I slowly lose my mind as the Guardians mount a massive comeback. My reaction to the grand slam comes near minute 15.
We talk about how the game progressed and my concerns about the pitching staff in general. While still watching and commenting on the Guardians as they continue to progress on a backbreaking loss.
I continue to follow the game and spring in comments about some of the top bats in the minors. Hear me talk about the ultimate sleeper prospect in the Guardians system Jose Fermin while also talking about recent picks excelling as well as Oscar Gonzalez’s excellence. I keep it going until Josh Naylor basically ends it.

May 09, 2022Cleveland Guardians are .500 after Beating the Toronto Blue Jays. Franmil is BACK
We take a second and focus on the team's reactions to taking the lead late in Sunday’s game. We talk about the friendship between Myles Straw and Jose Ramirez. We also talk about why that type of reaction by a team in the early going of the year is such a good sign. This is a team with great chemistry that wants to win. We also talk about the roster moves that happened before the game and why those moves were necessary.
We look at Sunday’s game in depth along with the loss from Saturday. I get into why I am starting to have concerns about Shane Bieber. One has to worry at this point about health more than anything else. We point out the good and bad of these two games.
First, we look at Saturday's win which might have been the most fun game of the weekend. The pitching dominated a great Toronto lineup, the hitters had one of their best games, and the bullpen was untouchable. We also preview the Chicago White Sox, who are currently a half-a-game up on the Guardians and are a team that is starting to get healthy and should still be the class of the American League Central.

May 06, 2022Every Series is a Sweep so the Cleveland Guardians will Sweep the Toronto Blue Jays
Details came out along with quotes on the Jose Ramirez extension. We take a minute to discuss why he should be the face of Cleveland sports and why we need to appreciate JRAM more than we likely already do. No one has shown more support for the city in terms of sports stars in my lifetime. No one has taken that much less money to stay in Cleveland because they love it.
We get into the win against the Toronto Blue Jays. Steven Kwan continues to capture attention this time with his first home run of the year. Andres Gimenez has another strong game, and most importantly there are signs of Franmil Reyes breaking out. We talk about what that could mean for the Guardians in general.
We end with a talk about how Logan Allen to the Baltimore Orioles should be no surprise as well as why we will likely never see Bobby Bradley in Cleveland again. Then we go long talking about names to know and top performers in college baseball. The draft is shaping up to be one of the worst ones in recent memory but there are still a lot of famous names and fun players to watch.

May 05, 2022Kwantis Airlines Flying the Cleveland Guardians to Victory over the San Diego Padres
Cleveland Guardians played two against the San Diego Padres. The first game was a loss for the Guardians who saw the return of Mike Clevinger who had his first start in over a year. We talk about a game the Guardians could have won.
We discussed the win in the second game, which saw big control issues for Guardians pitching but thanks to Steven Kwan they were able to pick up a win in extra innings. Franmil Reyes with signs of life and the return of Amed Rosario as well for the Guardians.
Lastly, it is time to preview the Toronto Blue Jays who will play four against the Cleveland Guardians. The Blue Jays are beat up, so this series has the potential that one might expect for two teams that have very different perceptions before the year began. We go position by position and see why the Guardians should have a chance this weekend.
