Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians episodes

April 18, 2022Opening Weekend Blues Cleveland Guardians Swept by the San Francisco Giants
Cleveland Guardians had all the momentum in the world heading into the opening weekend and they still got swept by the San Francisco Giants. We focus on the first game of the weekend, an opening day to forget as the Guardians could not touch Carlos Rodon.
Next up is games two and three this weekend. Both losses for the Guardians, the Saturday game was the most galling as the Guardians had the chances and seemed to fail in every facet of the game. We talk about what has worked, what has not, and why even after a bad weekend there is no reason to count this team out.
We decide to end by looking at some prospects that have excelled in the early-going Daniel Espino and Gavin Williams, the pair of young arms who have come out dealing. We talk about how every level is loaded with fun young players to watch and even have a bit of a draft discussion.

April 15, 2022OPENING DAY Talking Details on Jose Ramirez Extension and Previewing the San Francisco Giants
We have the official details on the Jose Ramirez extension. The deal is even more friendly than previously thought. We talk about why it is that he would have left so much money on the table. Then we get into the overall payroll for the Guardians which is now just the 4th worst in baseball.
Next, we preview the weekend series and home opener for the Guardians against the San Francisco Giants. We go position by position comparing the two teams and trying to figure out which team should be favored this weekend in each game.
We have some fun with location data on the podcast. We found out where most of the listeners are coming from. This is an old feature we brought back to have some fun seeing where our quickly expanding listener bases are coming from.

April 15, 2022 Streaming Locked on Guardians Owen Miller looking like a Star, Sellers Regrets for the Reds
1. We are trying a stream this evening to discuss Owen Miller's big day and another big win for the Cleveland Guardians who secure the Ohio Cup for the seventh year in a row. Before we do, we take a moment to talk about why everything with the Reds that has occurred over the past few days and months before that should make you thankful to be a Guardians fan.
2.Now we focus on the top performers in this game and talk about the statistical performance of Owen Miller who has been out-shined but has been dynamite all season so far. I also wonder if the Reds could not help but have sellers' remorse about the Winker deal knowing they could have had Miller and/or Kwan if they had not insisted on including Suarez.
3.We finish up with a discussion of the next opponent, the San Francisco giants. They are a team that won a ton of games a year ago but seem to be a classic case of being more than the sum of their parts. I can’t help but wonder if the Guardians will be the favorites for this upcoming series.

April 13, 2022Guardians Score 10 Plus Runs for the Third Day in a ROW! Steven Kwan is a Superhero JRAM SMASH
We talk about the Guardians getting another win this team running the Cincinnati Reds home opener. Steven Kwan continues to be the hottest bat in baseball. He has reached base three or more times in all five games. He has been so good people overlooked the fact Shane Bieber had a no-hitter through five innings.
We continue to focus on a game that had so many fantastic stories including Andres Gimenez’s first home run of the year and Jose Ramirez hit a grand slam to put the game out of reach. We also discuss the Alec Bohm situation and wonder if it might be an opportunity for the Guardians to do what they love to do and buy low on a talented player.
We end with a listener request and focus on the University of Tennessee for this week's Wednesday Wrap up. We talk about Blade Tidwell who was in the running to be the top college arm but has struggled with health. Then we focus on Chase Dollander, a player who fits the Guardians' statistical profile and is one of the few college pitchers this year who has increased his value. We don't spend too much time on the freshman arms Chase Burns and Drew Beam who have actually been the top performers for Tennessee this year but are years away from the draft.

April 12, 2022Talking Cleveland Guardians with Locked on MLB's Sully. We talk Steven Kwan, Playoffs, Name Change
Sitting down with Sully of Locked on MLB to talk about the Guardians. We focus on the name change at the start. We talk a little about history, and I discuss how much I am enjoying the Art Deco look. The Guardians' tweets are looking like something out of a Noir Film.
Next is the meat of our discussion as we switch over to talk about the man, the myth, the legend in his own time Steven Kwan. Another day and another set of records for the Cleveland rookie. We discuss his history, along with the history he has made for the Cleveland Guardians.
Lastly, we talk about where this time can go, and why it is that they could end up being buyers when the deadline comes along. We also talk about why both of us think there is a chance for this Guardians team to sneak into the playoffs.

April 11, 2022KWANTUM LEAP: Steven Kwan is Amazing, Myles Straw is Extended, Guardians Pick up their first Win
Steven Kwan has made himself the story of the weekend. He has done things in his first three games that no player has done before now. He has been a force of nature at the top of the lineup. He is hitting .800 so far this year and has reached base three or more times in every game.
Myles Straw is a player that both the Guardians and I had targeted for years. So it makes sense that they decided to lock him up for up to seven years. I explain why they signed him when they did and why this could be a harbinger of more extensions.
We end by looking at the two games from this weekend. The Guardians' overtime hard-luck loss to the Kansas City Royals and Bobby Witt Jr. Along with the 17-3 shellacking they gave the Royals on Sunday with Oscar Mercado, Steven Kwan, and Jose Ramirez leading the way.

April 08, 2022Our Heart Will go on Bradley Zimmer, Cleveland Guardians Drop Opening Day to Royals Kwan and Witt debut
Cleveland Guardians drop Opening day to the Kansas City Royals 3-1. We talk about the three stars Steven Kwan, Myles Straw, and Shane Bieber. We also talk about the mess that was Amed Rosario. We even talked a little about Bobby Witt Jr., but not too much as Steven Kwan was the rookie who got Guardians fans attention.
Bradley Zimmer, the centerfielder of our hearts, was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for pitcher Anthony Castro. We talk about my failings when it comes to scouting. Why was it that I had him as a top 10 prospect in 2014 and now a player like him would not crack my top 50. I talk about how he does have value to a team that might not be set at centerfield. We also talk about Castro who the Blue Jays claimed on waivers a year ago.
We end by going through position by position to see which team I favor in the next three games. These two squads are close in talent, so listen in to see how I think the Guardians will do this weekend.

April 07, 2022 Jose Ramirez Staying a Guardian for SEVEN Years. Opening Day Cleveland Guardians/ Kansas City Royals
1. Jose Ramirez is here to stay. The Cleveland Guardians just added five more years and 124 more million onto his current contract to ensure the star third baseman stays. It is clear Jose wanted to stay and so did the Guardians. For the first time in forever, the Guardians are keeping a star and a future Hall of Famer for what appears to be his entire career.
2. We talk about Andres Gimenez whose early career mirrors Jose Ramirez’s, and while I am not saying he will have anything near Jose’s career. He should be much improved from a year ago and we get into why.
3. We talk a bit about opening day. Do you feel like I do that the contract has managed to overshadow opening day? We talk a little bit about why I think the Guardians are better than the Royals and why I think they will win on opening day even though the Bobby Witt Jr. hype is real and deserved.

April 06, 2022Talking About Austin Meadows and Cole Sulser. Wednesday Wrap Up Ivan Melendez of Texas University
We talk about the Austin Meadows deal. I get into why the Rays did this, and why they are likely better for making this trade. I talk about why Meadows would have been an upgrade for the Guardians but not as much as most people think. We talk about why he would not have been an ideal outfielder and why I think Steven Kwan could outperform him.
We discussed the other trade that occurred that was one that I think might have been more helpful for the Cleveland Guardians. Ohio kid Tanner Scott and former Guardians farmhand were traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Florida Marlins. I talk about why this trade will likely have a greater return than the Meadows deal.
We talk a bit about the college pitching class, and who is shining in a class that might not see a player taken in the first 20 picks. After that, we focus on Ivan Melendez “The Hispanic Titanic” as he is known. The University of Texas first baseman has some obvious knocks, but when you look at the data he is one of the safest hitters in this class and putting up numbers that video games would be jealous of.
