April 04, 2022Cleveland Guardians Opening Day Roster Revealed! Emmanuel Clase Extension? Jose Ramirez extension?
We finally know the opening day roster and there are certainly some good and bad to it. We talk about the surprises on the initial roster. We also go into Konnor Pilkington, Bryan Lavastida, and Steven Kwan being set to make their MLB debuts. We also dig into two of the weakest positions on this team catcher and first base.
We talk about the rest of the infield and why it is good to see so many young players getting their chance. People tend to forget that the centerpiece of the Francisco Lindor deal was Andres Gimenez. We talk about why he is an important player for the Guardians and why to not overlook him. We also talk about the Jose Ramirez extension situation and how his value won’t change between now and July if an extension is not reached.
We talk a little about the outfield. We talk about the rotation and the bullpen and how right now there is Emmanuel Clase in the pen and then everyone else. We also dig into the Emmanuel Clase extension. I talk about why the Guardians did it, they are keeping him in Cleveland for seven more years. In addition also why Clase decided to re-up even though for a majority of the contract he is likely to make less than Shaw makes this year.

April 01, 2022MLB Mock Draft 3.0 Picks 1-16, Plus Roster and Pitching Staff Projections for the Guardians
The roster is coming into focus. We talk about the decision to roster Lavastida and let Sandy Leon walk. We talk about Steven Kwan or Ernie Clement for the final roster spot. We talk about the projected rotation and the announcement of Shane Bieber as the opening day starter for the third year in a row.
We begin our third mock for the 2022 MLB Draft. It is April so what better time than now. We start with the first six picks. Five of the first six players are hitters, and it would be shocking if there was more than one pitcher in the top six selections.
We continue on getting to the Cleveland Guardians pick at 16. There are many college catchers and the prep arms also start to fly. The three college catchers of note Kevin Parada, Daniel Susac, and Logan Tanner listen in to see who I project to the Guardians before giving a few names to keep in mind for pick 35 and in the second round.

March 31, 2022Crossover: Lindsay Crosby in House to Chat Jose Ramirez, Prospects, and the 2022 Season
We sit down with Locked on Prospects host Lindsay Crosby to talk about the Guardians, Jose Ramirez, and more. We start by discussing some of the top prospects in the system. We talk about where we think they could help this year and in the future. It is a chance to hear multiple takes on the next generation of great Guardians.
We get into where I think the Guardians will end up and discuss with Lindsay what we are excited about for this time and what the issues could be. We talk about the toxic fan and owner relationship and what could be done to make things look more interesting for the fans.
We end with Jose Ramirez chatter. It seems more and more likely that the Guardians star will resign. We focus on what other players signed contracts that might mirror what JRAM is looking for. We also explain how and why the deal could all of a sudden make sense for a team that has never given more than 60 million to a player before and will certainly have to offer 100 million-plus dollars to keep their MVP candidate in-house.

March 30, 2022 Jose Ramirez Extension PLEASE GET IT DONE!
1. The Jose Ramirez extension rumors are picking up steam. We talk about the latest rumor and while the source is not a big name. It is a source that was credited by Jon Heyman and Ken Rosenthal for being one of the first to have information on Ketel Marte. I also dug into the stats notebook to read a bio for Bruce Aven from 1998 at the request of a fan.

2. We continue to look for ways the Guardians could still find an upgrade. We focus on an old friend and trading partner the San Diego Padres. The Padres have been chasing catching for years, and appear to still be focused on another new catcher. If the Padres do add a catcher I explain why it is the Guardians should be calling about Austin Nola.

3. We then focus on the St. Louis Cardinals who are one of the deepest teams in baseball. They might have added Albert Pujols but they have several players who could be in the running at DH. We talk about the depth players Lars Nootbaar, Brendan Donovan, Juan Yepez, and Nolan Gorman. But it is Lars Nootbar who is the player we pick as a logical candidate who could help the Guardians' potential outfield with Steven Kwan and Myles Straw to give the Guardians three-plus defenders who all project to be above league average or right at league average in terms of production. Something that has not occurred in a very long time.

March 28, 2022My Ideal Cleveland Guardians Lineup: No Zimmer or Mercado but Bring on the Kwan
I present to the listening public my ideal Cleveland Guardians lineup based on players who could be potentially in the running still. I defend Steven Kwan hitting fifth in my lineup, go through each position explaining what else could occur, and defend why I made the choices I made. I also explain the value of Bradley Zimmer, while also explaining why I would prefer for him to be traded to another organization due to his perceived value in Cleveland against what I hear when I talk to others connected to teams or who write about the game.
We talk about the 40 man mess and the newest injuries that have occurred. With the moving of Cody Morris to the 60-day disabled list, there is no one for the Guardians to move around the next injury addition will mean a cut has to occur. We talk about the injuries to Luke Maile, James Karinchak, and others. We talk about the Teres Major, the muscle that is the Guardians' bane. We also get into why inactivity is not an option and why the Guardians need to be more like the Rays right now.
We look at payroll, there is different data on the payroll at every single site. We use the Fangraphs one which seems to have the best data. The Guardians rank an embarrassing 29 out of 30 teams, we get into why I think it is they ended up not spending at all in free agency. We also talk about what the hold-ups could be on any big moves for the organization. I also own up that I was wrong to preach patience as the season is drawing near and it is clear that this team is what it is.

March 25, 2022 3 MILLION DOLLARS FOR SHAW!?! Plus Conforto is Likely a No Go
1. I bring out the Stats Scouting Notebook from 1998. I talk about how I started my love of prospects, and how until now I had not realized that one of the people I give the most credit for helping shape my interest: Jim Callis was also the writer of every prospect section in the book. We have some fun with old stats, but save the reports for another day.

2. The Bryan Shaw contract has been reported and I am blown away by how much he got and how much he could make. It was reported he got 3 million dollars to start with a chance to make up to 9 million. This is for a player no other team seemed to want from a team that has been unwilling to spend money.

3. We talk about why Michael Conforto is the last free agent standing and why he is not a likely fit for the Guardians. Then we talk about why the lack of anything from the Guardians is infuriating and rightfully so for most fans. We talk about all the reasons why the Guardians should have more money to spend and give a plausible reason why they have not engaged in the market yet.

March 24, 2022 "BRYAN SHAW LIVES!"
1. Bryan Shaw has had his long-expected and awaited return to the Cleveland Guardians. While he was relatively effective a year ago, we explain why he is likely to crater this year. I also explain why I hate moves like this for the Guardians. We also talk about who is going to need to be cut when Shaw makes this team and ends up getting the majority of the bullpen reps instead of young players. We also discuss the injury to Cody Morris and his general health issues.

2. We talk about the lineup based on what MLB.com projected. We dig into why Josh Naylor seems likely to start the year in AAA. Naylor made his debut this week but seems unlikely to break camp with the team. Then we dig into why the Angels make sense as a trade partner in theory but lack the pieces to make a trade that makes sense.

3. We continue to look at the MLB.com lineup projections to find interesting trades. We also discuss the Luke Maile injury. Then we dig into why Bradley Zimmer might make a ton of sense to a Marlins and the Phillies, but it is again hard to find an exact matchup.

March 23, 2022Wednesday Wrap: Cleveland Guardians Payroll is Embarrassing: College Talk Mazur, Metzinger, Cannon
Payroll has been a sensitive topic when it comes to the Guardians. Today all players settled and signed, giving the Guardians their first official payroll for 2022. It is just short of 50 million for the second year in a row which has not happened since 04 and 05. We look at avenues to improve the team including extensions, free agency and also taking back a one-year bad contract like we often see in other sports
We pivot to our college baseball coverage. We begin by talking about the Xavier and Indiana matchup which we highlighted last week. While the players I focused on didn’t have a big weekend it was a huge offensive weekend. We then focus on Jonathan Cannon who fits the Guardians profile currently has the second-best strikeout to walk ratio in the country. We also talk about 5th ranked Hunter Barco, as well as another lefty in 17th, ranked Nate Savino. Savino is a player I mocked to the Guardians out of high school. While Virginia has a checkered history of success, Savino has to be one of the biggest risers in the college group this spring.
Adam Mazur of Iowa is the top prospect in the Big Ten. He had a rough weekend against Brandon Birdsell and Texas Tech but is another pitcher on the rise in the 2022 MLB draft. We end with a focus on Ben Metzinger who has likely been the biggest winner in terms of rising value in 2022. It is a super deep catcher crop, the best I have ever seen, and Metzinger of Louisville is currently arguably the top-performing catcher in the class.

March 22, 2022Spring Training New Year Same Stories for the Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians are getting deep in spring training and we discuss why it is that I don’t put much time or faith into spring training performance. We discuss the importance of spring training and explain why it is also kind of worthless. I explain why no matter how good Oscar Gonzalez looks he has no chance to make the team. I also get into the never-ending narratives about players who are expected to break out and don’t.
Next, we talk about the addition of Mitchell Tolman to the roster. I explain why he was added, and how he is similar to recent pitching additions like Jake Jewell and Ian Gibaut where the value is more about depth than anything else.
We end by going super long on who Oakland has left. I find three potential hitters who could help the Guardians in the outfield. I also explain why it is that Steve Kwan should be penciled in as a starter in the outfield and why the Guardians are only interested in players who provide a clear upgrade. We also focus on the outfield depth of the Guardians in the minors and why it might prevent them from being active in looking for help externally.
