Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians episodes

May 04, 2022 Cleveland Guardians Prospect Hunter Gaddis Joins Locked on Guardians
On Today’s show, we have one of the more interesting arms in the Cleveland Guardians farm system, Hunter Gaddis. Hunter is from Canton, Georgia, and ended up with the Guardians after a very successful college career at Georgia State. We talk about his path to the Guardians from Georgia State University and the Cape through the Guardians up to being part of one of the most talented minor league rotations I have ever seen with the Akron RubberDucks. There are teams whose top six starting pitching prospects don’t measure up with who Akron has in-house. In addition to this, we talk about Hunter’s changeup which thanks to the graduation of Eli Morgan might be the best secondary offering in the minors and is my personal favorite changeup in the Guardians minor leagues.

May 03, 2022Jose Ramirez AL Player of the Month, Steven Kwan AL Rookie of the Month. San Diego Padres on Deck
Jose Ramirez is the American League player of the month, no Guardian has won that award since Jose Ramirez in 2020. Steven Kwan is the American League Rookie of the month, which has not happened since Tyler Naquin in 2016. We also talk about Gabriel Arias who has broken his wrist and will be on the disabled list for weeks.
We talk a little about the San Diego Padres in general as well as the return of Mike Clevinger both to baseball and to Cleveland. We talk about the strong offense of San Diego before the two-game series starts.
We go position by position previewing this series which despite a very hot start by several Padres players is closer than one might think.

May 02, 2022Cleveland Guardians SMASH Oakland Athletics: Andres Gimenez's Had a Weekend to Remember
It was a fun weekend to be a Cleveland Guardians fan. I spend some time talking about how the pen might be a strength and also talking about the rise of Trevor Stephan, the greatest Rule 5 selection in franchise history. We then get into a big come from behind win from Friday. It was a big offensive day for the Guardians who scored four in the seventh to win.
It was another late rally for the Guardians thanks to a pinch-hit double by Richie Palacios on Saturday which netted them their second win in this series.
We end by discussing the Sunday sweep along with the roster moves made on Sunday night. Logan Allen and Bobby Bradley were designated for assignment. We talk about why it happened along with the general reduction of the roster. We also talk about how this team's 40-man is still sitting at 40 even with two players coming off.

April 29, 2022EPISODE 700 of Locked on Guardians. The Guardians aren't a Rocking But We Are
It is episode 700 of Locked on Guardians and I have been the host for all 700 of them. The Guardians have lost seven in a row. We focus on the several miscues that lead to the loss. One knows it was a bad day when Austin Hedges is the star and provided the majority of the offense.
We preview the Oakland series and discuss why this series might be closer than one would expect when facing a team that sold off everything that was not nailed down this offseason. The Athletics still have pitching depth, and enough hitters to make this weekend at least interesting.
We end with a big thank you to all the listeners over the years who have helped this podcast survive and thrive. We have only been on YouTube for two months and broke the Locked on MLB YouTube top 10 views just this month. We also talk about prospects and who is performing in the early going, talk about a prospect who will be on the show soon, and take some questions from the fans.

April 28, 2022Taylor Ward is Murdering the Cleveland Guardians. Franmil is the Largest Invisible Man On the Planet
We are recording while the Guardians are actively losing. We talk about another rough game, give out our three stars early, and focus on why again the Angels and Guardians should be talking. Before this series, I was all about trying to add Tyler Ward, but if Jo Adell is out of the starting picture the Guardians should be trying to figure out a deal.
We talk about Franmil Reyes, who was projected to be a plus hitter for this team but has hit worse than most pitchers. We talk about the fact that this is why you add a new hitting coach to help a hitter like Franmil figure things out. We get into what I like and what I hate about the lineup tonight.
We talk about top college performers and why this draft looks like one of the worst ones in recent memory. There is a strong top five but after that, it's kind of a disaster. I talk about Ivan Melendez who is the top player in college baseball this year and despite his age and position, one can’t look past his production. We also talk about Oregon State’s Connor Hjerpe. We discuss why I think the Guardians might lean college and why Chase DeLauter is a name to focus on.

April 27, 2022Cleveland Guardians Offense is Missing in Action After Losing 5 in a Row
We talk about the New York Yankees series focusing on which games they should have one and my bigger concerns from the series overall. The Yankees were a better team on paper when I previewed them and it showed up all weekend when facing the Cleveland Guardians.
Next, we switch to focus on the Angels series which has seen the Guardians offense struggle mightily over two games. There are a lot of very bad hitters getting regular reps for the Cleveland Guardians which makes it almost impossible for the team to have any success.
Lastly, we switch to looking at all the roster moves made over the last five days. The Guardians brought back Luis Oviedo, promoted Richie Palacios, and activated half of the players from the COVID list. We talk about what is next and who might see their time with the Guardians coming to an end very soon. I also focus on what my ideal current lineup might look like.

April 22, 2022Cleveland Guardians Dominate the Chicago White Sox. On Deck the New York Yankees and LA Angels
The Cleveland Guardians sweep the Chicago White Sox and as everyone expected are now in first place. The young players are stepping up and the Guardians are the most fun they have been to watch in years. We talk about everything that has worked so far and about how fun the Guardians are in general.
Next, we focus on the game itself which saw another strong outing by Zach Plesac along with Franmil Reyes finally going deep. Trevor Stephan doing more to lock down the 8th inning role. Along with timely hitting by Josh Naylor among others but Naylor in particular.
We focus on the two upcoming series. First is the Yankees who have been a bit disappointing but are still loaded with talent and should be favored most of this weekend. Then we talk about the Los Angeles Angels and why they might be a prime team for the Guardians to consider trading with later.

April 21, 2022Two Games Two Wins for the Cleveland Guardians Against the Chicago White Sox
We talk about all the roster moves the Cleveland Guardians made today and why they made the moves they did. We focus on three players who have a chance to make their major league debuts Gabriel Arias, Kirk McCarty, and Tanner Tully. I go a little deeper on Tully, a former pitcher from Ohio State, who was taken in the 26th round and did everything right on his way to getting this chance in the majors.
Next up we talk about game one, a wild affair at the start that settled down into a blowout win for the Guardians over the Chicago White Sox. This game saw the debut of Gabriel Arias and Jose Ramirez continue to do things no one has ever done in Cleveland.
We then focus on a close 2-1 victory that saw Jose be Jose. Steven Kwan does it with the glove and the bat. Along with pitching that was consistently strong with a big focus on a bullpen that might be coming together.

April 20, 2022Another Day Without Baseball: You Take Over with a Mailbag plus my Thoughts on being Wrong on Espino
The Cleveland Guardians game was again canceled, we talk about the next three games and the doubleheader tomorrow with the Chicago White Sox. Then the fans take over and I answer all of your questions. There was a heavy focus on the bullpen and pitching in general. It takes two segments for me to get through all the questions I was asked today.
We end with some thoughts on why I might end up being very wrong on Daniel Espino. Reading about both him and Kyle Harrison I think I have found the next physical trait that needs to be measured and one that might do more to predict health than anything that is currently out there. We also talk quite a bit about Eric Longenhagen’s prospect list from Fangraphs and why it has helped me realize some things about pitchers.

April 19, 2022Snow Day Off Day for the Cleveland Guardians / Chicago White Sox. Jose Ramirez Taking Home Hardware
The Guardians get snowed out. We talk about the reschedule and what the pitching will look like for the rest of the series against the White Sox. We talk about Jose Ramirez winning the player of the week in the American League. I also state what the lineup should be for this time now and the next several weeks.
Preview of the Chicago White Sox against the Cleveland Guardians. We talk about why this series is very much in the White Sox's favor, but how it has a chance to shift this year. We also get into just how beat up the White Sox are right now, but outside of Tuesday’s game, I am not sure I favor the Guardians in any of these matchups.
We talk about the early high performers in the minors and why it has me so excited for the Guardians. The waves of talent are coming on and I highlight the helium candidates along with top performers to watch. Even if players don’t work out there are just so many players that the Guardians should be set to succeed for a lot of years.
