Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians

1) We talk about why I think a labor stoppage is unlikely. In addition, baseball is in a situation where both sides have to know the sport's current condition.

2) Mailbag talking about first basemen and pitching prospects

3) More mailbag where I talk about more pitching prospects and discuss a potential trade with the Angels.

1) Trip around the majors talking about Luke Voit who the Yankees might not offer arbitration to. We talk about Jake Bauers, who was waived by Seattle. Then talk about how Toronto has a bit of a bad look right now by not letting Mark Shapiro interview for the Mets before I give my pitch on why I should be the GM of the Mets. We also crown the worst owner in baseball, and they are not in Cleveland and it is not close.

2) We talk about arbitration projections for the Indians and how this might affect the roster more than many other stats or things we look at.

3) Gold Glove finalists are announced, and two play for the Cleveland Baseball Team. We talk about where they rank among the other finalists.

1) We talk about lawsuits and why it is pretty clear that the one against the Guardians name has a 0% chance of stopping or slowing down the renaming plans.

2) It is official that Ruben Niebla is going back home to the San Diego area and every deep system Indians fan is heartbroken. We also discuss how there are likely to be more coaches, scouts, and coordinators on their way to other locals.

3) We end with some quick mailbag questions.

1) Long-term extensions with teams and players going deep into their 30s never work out, but I am still all for resigning Jose Ramirez. I go deep on why his desire to stay in Cleveland is more believable than with Francisco Lindor stating the same thing. I talk about why Jose might want to stay and how we all have to accept that if we are happy now we can't complain when the natural aging curve happens.

2) The 1991 draft was the last Hank Peters draft. He was GM for four years and had three of the best drafts in the history of the Indians. We look at the best late-round picks and some interesting numbers from the class. Along with the draft in general it went 94 rounds, and one of the teams drafting in the 94th round ended up with a net negative WAR for the draft with their top pick being future Indians reliever Alvin Morman.

3) We dig into the most successful first-rounder in team history and show how the Indians utterly dominated the 1991 draft. Since Jose Ramirez is the Indians best pure hitter since Manny Ramirez it only makes sense to talk about his draft class. The Indians drafted one of the top 5 players by bWAR in five of the first seven rounds in what turned out to be a very strong class. We also try to figure out if Damian Jackson signed or not as a 44th rounder.

1) The Indians traded future NLCS MVP to the Braves in July for basically cash savings. We discussed why this was still the right move. Also, while there are reasons people can be upset with the Dolans ownership. The Rosario situation is not one at all.

2) Ruben Niebla looks like he is leaving from the Indians to the Padres. We will explain why this is likely the worst news of the offseason. Why bringing back Terry Francona might have cost the Indians their pitching pipeline.

3) Silver Slugger Finalists are announced. One last sleeper to talk about. A deeper look into my sleepers and how I came up with the list.

1) Discuss Eddie Rosario and how despite having a terrible time in Cleveland, he will make more money in 2022. We also talk about some other old friends Sam Haggerty and James Hoyt. Haggerty the second most successful draft pick from 2015 and Hoyt who the Indians gambled on and got nothing for. Yet we explain why it was the right move.

2) We look at a few more players who were let go before I spend some time on the player who is the most interesting free agent in terms of the Indians, Seiya Suzuki. I explain why I would love to see the Indians be active in the International Market for the first time maybe ever? Masa Kobayashi doesn't count.

3) We talk about some sleepers and get into one Miguel Vargas. He might be the most interesting name on the list and could make a lot of sense as an Indians target.

1) Many old Friend alerts from around the league. From Carrasco to Marshall to Luplow to Guilmet. I also dig into some interesting players who have been designated for assignment recently in Tommy Doyle and Franchy Cordero.

2) Discussing Yency Almonte and why his splits show that he could help a team. We talk about the completion of the Danny Duffy trade as the player to be named later is an Ohio kid and former Kent State pitcher.

3) More stat sleepers talk as we dig into the players who could help the Indians as we attempt to find the next Mark Canha or Casey Blake.

1) Talking about the baseball playoffs and how Eddie Rosario has gone from hot trash to hot bat.

2) Mailbag has arrived, and it is rule 5 and Richie Palacios heavy.

3) More sleepers to know: Oakland 3B/C, Boston 1B, Catcher from Tampa, and many more.

1) Keith Law has talked about a bunch of Indians prospects recently. We talk about the names and who it is clear he thinks the Indians should add to the 40-man. We also talk about Nick Plummer, a player I was very high on in his draft year, who has had a dramatic comeback and might be a player for the Indians to consider.

2) Minor league players get housing. It is long, overdue, and just smart. We talk about other things that would make the minors more successful for teams. We also dig into the money of it all to explain why I think the payroll next year will be closer to 70 million than 90 million.

3) History around this data is sparse and sad. From 1901 to 1993 the Indians had 46 seasons over 500, 45 under, and two at five hundred. We talk a bit about futility including the terrible 70s and 80s.

1) First segment, why it is unlikely that Nolan Jones or Ty Freeman get traded this offseason. We talk about the players we would hate to see go but also understand to get someone you got to trade someone.

2) Time to review the 1981 MLB draft, the Indians drafted George Alpert who after three years of struggles with the Indians. He would switch to football to play wide receiver at Penn State. It was an odd draft with the two picks coming from nontraditional programs and future Indians Joe Carter arguably the biggest name in round one. The biggest name in the class is a future Hall of Famer who was a basketball recruit to a small school.

3) While the Indians struck out in round one. They drafted a player in the second round who has the fourth highest bWAR of all-time among second-round picks. Neal Heaton was the star of the class. We get into him and others while also digging into other famous names.
