Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians

We talk about why the Indians preferred Robert Perez to Brad Hand, and why no team wanted a top three reliever in the American League on a one year deal. We go into the finalists for the major awards who should win, and who I think will win. We then go back and revisit the Mets and how even without considering Lindor, they still make perfect sense for a trade with the Indians.

The Indians made some roster decisions, which lead tot he 40 man dropping to 34 for a movement before jumping back up to 35. We discuss four players who will likely take up some of those spots. We talk about Brad Mills, coaching change. We then talk a few names of players who have been let go, or are rumored to be let go that could benefit the Indians.

The Indians do something unusual to save some money, which feels like it will be the theme of the 2021 season. A season that could end up with a lower total payroll than the shortened 2020 season. We talk catchers, salary, and another new manager in the American League Central. I explain why I think the Indians best chance to contend and win is over, but why they could still end up sneaking a World Series victory in the next five years anyways.

There is a little World Series talk at the top before we focus in on the Indians hitters in the minors. We try and figure out who is the top player at each position with just a little bit of cheating when there is a spot without a player who fits cleanly. Make Sure to toon in tomorrow to here about the pitchers, which are an even better group of talent then the hitters.

We look at the trade of Larry Doby by the Indians to the White Sox, and the series of trades that occurred before and after with the players involved. How many of these players were involved in several trades for each other over the years. We also explore a theme for the Indians in that area which is acquiring players in the final year of their career. A lot of 1950s talk, but it becomes almost comical how many times teams trade away and then trade back for players back then. We end with a bit of Marlins trade chatter, a very brief bit at the end of the show.

On Today's podcast we look at some history and specifically what happened to a pair of young pitchers who faced each other on the biggest stage but both ended up having shortened careers that did not live up to anyone's expectations. Then we finally talk about the Cubs as trade partners, there is one name to watch there and after a week of buildup it is kind of a disappointing chat in terms of trades, but very interesting in terms of how many players the Cubs have entering FA years.

I had some twitter talk with other Locked On hosts and in my own timeline. This all lead me to talk about more potential Lindor deals. We also celebrate an award for Carlos Carrasco, and do some deep looking back on the 2009 Indians draft which produced double digit future MLB talent, and was one of the best classes were the Indians selected multiple players from Ohio in a draft. In the end I give the listeners what they want, and in this case that is more Lindor trade talk.

We are back to talk about more picks in the Way Too Early edition of the Mock draft. We focus on picks 21-27, including the Indians selection. While I mention two names there, there are really a dozen players that stand out as possible selections for the Indians at pick 22. Listen in learn some names, and find out who I think could be the next big name Indians prospect from what is shaping up to be a great draft.
