2022 was the worst year in the Washington Nationals history after trading away superstar Juan Soto, and solidifying themselves in a rebuilding situation. But, now that we've hit rock bottom, there's only one way to go. How can the Nationals improve this year? Ryan discusses that and more to begin today's show. Ryan discusses the Nats inability to provide depth in the farm system, and what they can do to improve that this season. Also, he has an idea for Patrick Corbin, and Trevor Williams that could make for a dynamic, unique pair as a pitching tandem. Does the Lerner family eventually sell the team, or do they stay put? Ryan provides his opinion on what could be the biggest headline going into this year; the ownership situation. Lastly, we look ahead to the Nats holding the #2overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, and there has been a prospect dubbed as the best college pitching prospect since Stephen Strasburg... welcome to the Washington Nationals.

The Washington Nationals have had a quiet offseason, but they made some noise last week claiming former top prospect Jeter Downs after being released by the Boston Red Sox. For those who don't know, Downs was once a top prospect in all of baseball after being a 1st round pick by the Cincinnati Reds. After being traded from the Reds to the Dodgers, he took his game to another level and was considered to be a top 100 prospect according to multiple different sites. Ryan discusses the role he could play for the Nationals, and also discusses what got Downs in this situation and how he could improve. The Nationals had a down year in all categories, but Joey Meneses came along to be the gift that kept on giving. What are some of his projections heading into the 2023 season, and is he guaranteed to be in the Opening Day starting lineup? All of that & more on todays Locked On Nationals!

Ryan starts off today's show discussing some wild, great things Mike Rizzo has done as President of Baseball Operations here with the Washington Nationals. He discusses the impact he has had with his thrilling trades in the past, and it really brings a great question. Have the Washington Nationals ever lost a trade when it comes to Mike Rizzo's tenure? Ryan lists his 5 greatest trades so far as President of the Nats. According to @TalkNats ion Twitter, the Nationals have had their eyes set on left fielders as well as another left handed bat, so Ryan gives you two names to look for when it comes to that. Believe it or not, there are still multiple left fielders and left handed bats when it comes to this category. Lastly, Ryan discusses some moves the Nationals still need to make to better this team around them. Happy Holidays to ALL Locked On Nationals listeners!

The New York Mets shocked the baseball world early this morning and signed Carlos Correa to a MASSIVE $300 Million dollar deal, and it is now time to consider a salary cap. What is baseball afterall? It's a game, and it's a great one. What makes for the best games/ sporting leagues? Fairness. The MLB has now lost that cause of billionaire owners who seem to spend all the money in the world, with no issues or questions to go along with that. Ryan explains that very issue to open up the show. What's another issue in baseball? Well, balance. You have teams like the Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, & your Washington Nationals that are refusing to spend any sort of money in a meaningful way to better their team. What can Major League Baseball do to help those teams? Introducing a salary floor, Ryan explains that here. Brandon Drury, a potential Nationals free agent, signed with the Los Angeles Angels on a cheap, 2-year deal. Ryan is left confused, and asks this question; what step in the rebuild do we stand today?

After Ryan does some research on the young, 22 year old SS CJ Abrams, he comes across some poor projections with this kid and what some people could see him being in the future. Some project him to be a below average hitter, who will never hit his full potential at the plate. Well... Ryan is here to tell you to R.E.L.A.X. The kid just turned 22 years old, and was traded as a 21 year old from San Diego to Washington, D.C. after being one of the prominent figures of the San Diego Padres. The pressure of being a main piece in the Juan Soto trade package, everyone needs to settle down on this kid. Cause, Ryan brings back the CJ Abrams we all heard of just last year, and what this kid can project to. Ryan also discusses the offseason expectations he had for this team, and where they sit now and how this has gone. Take a wild guess, what do you think this offseason has been like? Lastly, Ryan found a stat that could shake you up, and leave you tossing in bed at night when it comes to this rebuild. Are we sure we want to go all in on this thing?

Play-by-play man for the Fredericksburg Nationals Eric Bach, joins Locked On Nationals dto do a deep dive into the talent that he witnessed this past season in the low-A level of the Minor Leagues. We start off by discussing some of the young pitching prospects including Jarlin Susana, the 18 year old prospect from the Dominican Republic who can throw a fastball at 103 MPH, and a mid 90's slider. Former 1st round pick Jackson Rutledge was also down with the FredNats and he saw plenty of starts down in the Carolina league, so you get to learn about his development as well. Then, we move on to the best prospect in the Nationals farm system, James Wood. He was great at basically everything, but we want to know why he was so great and what makes him so special. 2021 1st round pick Brady House also spent time in Fredericksburg before a season ending back injury, but don't be alarmed, he still has a special skill set that Nats fans should still believe in. We get into some other guys you may not know about, but you should start recognizing these names.

After seeing a LOT of Nationals fans unhappy with the Lerner's family contract offer over the summer, it's time to revisit it. And after the trade, people trashed them for the offer and some said it was a "joke" of an offer. Well, Ryan is here to tell you that it was not a joke of an offer. Has anyone seen the contracts given out to free agents this year? Yes, AAV may still be the hot lingo in baseball, but it's also about the long term value of one. So, you're telling me a $450 million dollar offer is a joke? Well, Ryan tells you why it is no where close to a joke deal. In fact, they put their best foot forward, and made the highest bid possible. He declined, and the Nats may have gotten into the better side of the deal. After that, the Nats rebooted their farm system, and some guys are not that far away from the majors. Ryan dives into the future of the team and projects when the Nats could be competitive again. Then, Ryan discusses the possibility of the MLB carrying a salary "floor".

After watching the New York Mets, the New York Yankees, and all of the other big market teams in Major League Baseball spend all the money in the world, it has Ryan thinking about one thing in particular. Major League Baseball has an issue, and that issue is not having a salary cap. What would a salary cap do for MLB in the long run? Well, this is a simple fix. This could A) level the playing surfaces, and B) Stop Steve Cohen from spending billions & billions on players that he necessarily doesn't need. We want fun baseball back, and Ryan has the answers as to how that could work. Since we're on the topic of free agency, Ryan makes his case for adding another corner outfielder to the MLB roster, and this includes a power lefty bat to help one of the worst power hitting teams in baseball in 2022. The Nats need to generate more runs, and this player could add in a BIG way. Also, the Nationals brought back a 2019 World Series Champion, and one of the leaders that we need in the clubhouse to help lead the young guys.
