The Philadelphia Phillies were shutout for the 2nd time in 3 games as they fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 7-0 Sunday afternoon.  

Bryce Harper singled to left field with one out in the 3rd inning at that was the last baserunner the Phillies had for the game as Matthew Liberatore and the Cards bullpen shut the Phillies’ bats down from that point on.  

The Phils’ pitching wasn’t much better. Zack Wheeler allowed 4 runs over his 6 innings of work, marking the first time since 2023 that Wheeler went two starts without either being a quality start. Most of the damage to Wheeler came in the 6th inning, when he allowed 3 doubles, all to left field where Brandon Marsh was playing today. Marsh looked to be slow to react to 2 of the double that bounced into the stands for ground rule doubles.  

Matt Strahm took over in the 7th and allowed a run on a wild pitch, then Carlos Hernandez surrendered two more in the 8th on a 2-run homer by Jordan Walker.  

Alec Bohm continues to struggle, went 0-for-4 in this one while still being overly aggressive at the plate.

Cristopher Sanchez tossed 6.1 innings of 1-run baseball as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1.  

Sanchez allowed 8 hits and issued 2 walks over his outing but was able to induce 4 double play balls to get out of major trouble through the game as well as a bases loaded jam in the 3rd. He picks up his first win of the season.  

Nick Castellanos proved Sanchez with some early run support, smacking a 2-run double to left to get the Phillies on the board. His first of three hits on the afternoon. Bryson Stott added to the Phillies lead in the 5th inning with an RBI double to right scoring Brandon Marsh, followed by a Trea Turner RBI single in the 7th that brought home Alec Bohm. Bohm broke his 0-for-20 slump with a well-placed grounder to short that was too far in the whole for anyone to make a play on Bohm at first.  

The win gets the Phillies off the short schneid as they dropped back-to-back games heading into today’s action.

The Philadelphia Phillies took their first shutout loss of the season, falling to the Cardinals, 2-0 in St. Louis Friday night.

Phillies managed just three hits in the loss and two walks as Cardinals starting Andre Pallante kept their bats quiet of 7 innings of work.  

Rob Thomson did what he could to try and get his offense going. Before the game he shuffled the lineup for a second time in as many days, this time moving Bryson Stott to the leadoff spot and had Bryce Harper bat third with Kyle Schwarber batting clean-up.  

Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos and Trea Turner came up with the only Phillies hits, while Brandon Marsh and Alec Bohm extended their slumps. Marsh now 0-for-his-last-21, while Bohm is 0-for-his-last-17.  

Aaron Nola needed 93 pitches to get through just 5 innings of work. He allowed both runs the Cardinals scored as part of a 30-pitch 5th. He drops to 0-3 on the season.

The Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Atlanta Braves, 4-1 in a game that featured a 2:45 rain delay as well as 11 innings of baseball.

Jesus Luzardo Received little run support over his sixth innings of one run baseball. Kyle Schwarber was the only Phillie to provide offense, hitting his sixth home run of the season in the 3rd inning to tie the score at one.

After the 6th inning, the sky opened up over Truist Park and put the game on hold for the lengthy rain delay. When play resumed a little after 11:30 p.m. ET, both offenses continued to struggle.  

The Phillies bullpen of Carlos Hernandez, Jordan Romano and Matt Strahm all kept the Braves off the board while surrendering just one hit and one walk over three innings.  

Then in after Tanner Banks was able to get out of a jam with a runner on third with one out in the bottom of the 10th, the Phillies mustered a run on a base loaded walk by Johan Rojas in the top of the 11th. Kyle Schwarber ended the inning on a ball that JUST missed being a 2-out Grand Slam when the ball died on the warning track.  

But in the bottom half of the 11th, the Braves made quick work of Phillies’ reliever,  Joe Ross. Austin Riley tied the game on an RBI double, then Marcel Ozuna jumped on a hanging slider for the walk-off  two-run homer.  

Phillies drop their first series of the season.

The Philadelphia Phillies won a battle against the Braves in Atlanta, taking game two of their three-game series, 4-3. Trea Turner came up with the game-winning homer in the top of the 9th.  

For five innings, neither pitching staff, mainly starters Taijuan Walker and Grant Holmers would crack. Then in the 6th, Bryson Stott was able to just get enough of a pitch and scorched a grounder that was in and out of the glove of Ozzie Albies at second. It went down as an RBI single, scoring Max Kepler and the first run of the game.  

When the 7th inning rolled around, the Phillies trailed 2-1. That’s when Bryce Harper smashed a two-run home run to right-center field for his second homer of the season. After an Austin Riley homer off Joe Ross in the seventh tied the score at 3, the Phillies’ offense needed to respond.

Trea Turner was the one that would make that happen. He came up with one out in the top of the 9th and belted his first homer of the season, jumping on a first pitch slider to left field to give the Phillies a 4-3 edge. Jose Alvarado pitched 1.1ip and recorded the win.      

Taijuan Walker made the start for the Phillies, notching his 2nd straight scoreless outing to start off his 2025 campaign. That’s now 10.2 of scoreless baseball for a guy that was supposed to start this season in the bullpen, then Ranger Suarez’ back issue landed him on the injured list.  

Phillies go for their fourth straight series win as they send Jesus Luzardo to the hill against Spencer Schwellenbach Thursday night at 7:15.

The Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Atlanta Braves, 7-5 as the Phils found just about every way possible to lose this game.

The Phillies struggled, with Starting pitching as Zack Wheeler didn’t have his best stuff, lasting just 5.1ip allowing 5 runs. The Bullpen gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks including 2 wild pitches and the offense was non-existent after the 5th inning. But there was one big play that stuck out in this one that led to the wheels coming off.

In the 2nd inning, Austin Riley stepped to the plate with one out. He hits high fly ball to the left/center field gap. Johan Rojas and Edmundo Sosa, who was making his first career start in left, came in charging at the ball. As the ball came down, Sosa and Rojas starting to look at each other as opposed to the ball. The ball dropped right at the foot of Rojas. An inexcusable mistake for a center field that Rojas has especially not trying harder to make the play with an inexperienced left fielder playing next to him.  

Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos had great nights from the plate. Schwarber was a double short of the cycle including his 5th homer of the season and 3 RBIs, while Casty went  3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Phillies and Braves play game two of this three game series Wednesday night at 7:15. Taijuan Walker is set to start against “opener” Grant Holmes.
