Nick Castellanos WALKED OFF a wild one as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets 7-6, on Casty’s RBI single in the bottom of the 9th. This NLDS is tied at 1-1.  

Cristopher Sanchez started for the Phillies and allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work. Mark Vientos hit his first of two 2-run homers of Sanchez in the 3rd inning.  

After a Pete Alonso solo homer off Jose Ruiz put the Phillies in a 3-0 hole in the top of the 6th, the Phils’ bats finally got going in the bottom of the inning.  

Bryce Harper hit a 2-run homer to pull the Phils to within a run. Then Nick Castellanos smacked a solo shot for back-to-back homers that tied the score at 3.  

The Mets grabbed a one-run lead in the 7th when Brandon Nimmo homered off Orion Kerkering, but the Phillies responded again in the 8th.  

Harper drew a 1-out walk and then found himself on third when Castellanos drilled a single to right field. Then Bryson Stott gave the Phillies a 5-4 lead with a 2-run Triple. Stott scored when Vientos couldn’t reel in a lazy grounder off the bat of J.T. Realmuto.  

In the 9th, the Mets made their last stand when Vientos hit his 2nd 2-run homer, this one off of Matt Strahm that tied the game at 6.  

In the bottom of the 9th, Trea Turner worked a 2-out walk, then Harper walked as well, setting the stage for Castellanos to be the hero. He did NOT DISAPPOINT! Castellanos got a 1-2 slider from Tylor McGill and smacked it into left field for the walk off RBI Single!

The Philadelphia Phillies WASTE a stellar start from Zack Wheeler as they fall to the Mets in Game 1 of the NLDS, 6-2.

Zack Wheeler was masterful in his first start of the postseason. The Phillies ace tossed 7 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit and issuing 4 walks while striking out 9. Per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, of Wheeler’s 111 pitches, he induced 30 swings and misses, a new Phillies’ record (regular season or postseason).

Then the bullpen took over.

Jeff Hoffman, Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering combined to allowed 5 runs to cross the plate in the 8th and allow the Mets to take control. Hoffman was charged for 3 runs, Strahm for 2. Tanner Banks pitched the 9th and surrendered one run.  

Throughout the game, the Phillies offense was as bad as most Phillies Fans feared. The home team recorded just 2 hits in the game between the 1st and 7th innings and both were courtesy of Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber leadoff the game with a solo homer, then followed in the 3rd with a single.  

In the 8th, the Phillies showed some life with 2-out base hits by Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos, but Alec Bohm fouled out.
