The Red Sox could not finish off their series sweep against the Texas Rangers Wednesday night, and ended up losing the finale, 9-7, in 10 Innings. The Sox were 1 out away from securing the win, but Wyatt Langford tied the game at 7 in the 9th Inning with a 2-out, 3-run Home Run off of Josh Winckowski. The Red Sox went 2-4 on their Home Stand against Houston and Texas.

The Long Ball: The Rangers hit 4 Home Runs in their comeback win over the Red Sox Wednesday night. Adolis Garcia hit 2 Home Runs. Langford's Home Run in the 9th tied the game up and Jonah Heim hit a 2-run shot off of Zack Kelly in the Top of the 10th Inning to put the Rangers in front for good.

Tanner's Night: Tanner Houck got the nod in the series finale Wednesday night and worked into the 7th Inning. The Rangers tied the game up at 2-2 against Houck in the 6th Inning on a solo Home Run from Adolis Garcia. It was just the 9th Home Run allowed this season by Houck. Houck got the 1st 2 outs in the 7th, but exited with 2 runners on base after he gave up a 2-out walk to Corey Seager. Brennan Bernardino entered and got the 3rd out to strand the 2 base runners. Houck left with the led and was in line for the win, but the Rangers evened up the game in the 8th inning and Houck took his 3rd no-decision in his last 5 outings. The Red Sox made it back-to-back wins and they clinched a series win with Tuesday night's 9-4 win over the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park.  The Red Sox added to a 1-0 lead with 5 runs in the 5th inning.  With taking the 1st 2 Games of the Series, the Sox will go for their 6th series sweep of the season and their 1st of the season at Fenway with Wednesday's series finale.

Kutter's Night: Kutter Crawford entered Tuesday's start having allowed 13 Home Runs and 22 runs over his previous 4 outings. Crawford retired the 1st 16 hitters he faced before allowing 3 straight hits with 1 out in the 6th. Crawford exited after giving up an RBI Double to Marcus Semien and a walk to Corey Seager to load the bases.  Cam Booser came in and allowed an RBI singled and walked 2 straight hitters with the bases loaded.  Lucas Sims entered the game and got the final 2 outs to leave the bases loaded.  Crawford did end up with the win to improve his record to 8-9.

Pen Story II: Alex Cora went to Bailey Horn to face Corey Seager with a runner at 2nd and 2 outs in the 7th inning.  Monday night, in a similar situation, Seager tied the game at 3-3 on a 2-run Home Run off of Horn on the 1st pitch of the at-bat.  Horn got him on a hard-hit liner to 1st to end the inning to keep it a 6-4 game Tuesday night.  Horn took the mound for the 8th and retired the side 1-2-3.

Sox Scoring- Rafael Devers got the Red Sox on the board 1st with a 2-out, RBI Double in the 1st Inning.  It stayed 1-0 until the Bottom of the 5th when the Red Sox scored 5 runs. Monday night's hero Rob Refsnyder made it 3-0 with a 2-run single and Connor Wong followed with a 3-run Home Run that made it 6-0.  It was Wong's 11th of the season.  Sox added 3 more runs in the 8th inning with Nick Sogard knocking in a pair with a single.

The Red Sox got back in the win column Monday Night with a 5-4 walk-off win in the bottom of the 10th inning against the Texas Rangers in the opener of their 3-Game Series at Fenway.  The win ended the Red Sox 4-Game losing streak.  Boston with its first 3 runs, scoring on a sacrifice fly and a pair of bases loaded walks.  It's the Sox 5th walk-off win of the season.  The Rangers have lost 5 of their last 6.        6-8 in Extra-Innings.

Bello On The Bump: Brayan Bello worked 6 quality innings in Monday night's opener.  Bello tossed 4 scoreless innings to start and allowed his only run of the night in the 5th inning on an RBI single from Marcus Semien. He left with a 3-1 lead but ended up with his 5th straight no-decision.

The Red Sox lost their starting pitcher, James Paxton, in the 1st inning and the Sox lost the series finale to the Astros, 10-2, Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park.  The Red Sox have been swept at home for the 2nd straight year in an August series against the Astros and for the 4th time this season.

Short Outing for The Big Maple: James Paxton allowed a single to leadoff hitter Jose Altuve on the 1st pitch of the game.  Paxton had 2 outs on just 2 pitches with Alex Bregman hitting into a ground ball double play on the 1st pitch that he saw from Paxton.  Next hitter, Yordan Alvarez reached on an infield single, but on the play, Paxton went to cover 1st and came up hobbling.  He left the game having thrown only 5 pitches and was barely able to put any weight on his right leg.  Red Sox announced that Paxton suffered a right calf strain.

On the Board: Astros got their 1st run of the game in the 3rd when Mauricio Dubon scored from 3rd on a wild pitch from Brennan Bernardino.  Astros added on with 5 runs in the 5th Inning.  Alex Bregman hit a 3-run Home Run to make it 4-0.  Yordan Alvarez followed up with his 3rd Home Run of the series to make it 5-0.  Alvarez now has 7 career Home Runs at Fenway.

Avoiding the Shutout: The Sox got their 2 runs in the Bottom of the 6th inning against winning pitcher Hunter Brown.  Wilyer Abreu walked with the bases loaded to bring in the 1st run of the day for the Red Sox.  Masa Yoshida knocked in the 2nd run with an RBI Double.  Sox have gone 59 straight games without being shutout.  Red Sox were shutout 5 times over their 1st 57 games.

Too Many K's- The Red Sox struck out 13 on Sunday and struck out 40 times against Houston pitching during the 3-Game Series.

Dom On the Mound: Dominic Smith made his 3rd appearance as a position player on the mound Sunday.  Smith gave up a leadoff double, but also got an inning-ending double play.  He's worked 3 scoreless outings in '24.

What's Next?: Red Sox welcome in the Texas Rangers for a 3-Game Series that starts Monday night at Fenway.  The Sox are expected to send Brayan Bello to the mound in the series opener.  The Rangers are TBA for their starting pitchers for Monday and Wednesday's finale.

Notes on Bello: Red Sox have won Bello's previous 3 starts and are 6-1 in his last 7 outings.  His last loss came at home against the Blue Jays on June 25th.

The Red Sox lost their 3rd in a row overall with Saturday's 5-4 setback to the Astros in the middle game of their 3-Game Series at Fenway Park.  Red Sox hitters managed only 6 hits and struck out 15 times against Houston pitchers.  The Red Sox need to win Sunday's finale to avoid being swept for the 2nd straight year at Fenway by the Astros and or the 4th time this season.

The Red Sox had an opportunity in the Bottom of the 9th to at least time the game, but closer Josh Hader managed to slam the door shut on the threat.  Rafael Devers led off the 9th with a Double and Hader came back and got the next 3 hitters including Romy Gonzalez on a strikeout to end the game.

Tip Your Cap: Spencer Arrighetti earned the win for the Astros Saturday.  Arrighetti struck out 12 hitters the last time out in a win over the Tampa Bay Rays and on Saturday he established a new career-high with 13 strikeouts.  He walked only 1 in earning his 5th win of the season.

1-Man Wrecking Crew: Yordan Alverez hit a 2-out solo Home Run in the 1st inning and broke a 1-1 tie with a 2-run Home Run in the Top of the 6th Inning.  Alvarez has 6 career Home Runs against the Red Sox and all 6 have come at Fenway Park.  Alvarez has 4 RBIs in the series.

Where are the Hits?: The Red Sox managed only 6 hits and just 2 from the 3rd inning on in Friday night's loss in the series opener.  The Sox did not have a hit over the 1st 4 innings against Spencer Arrighetti Saturday.  Danny Jansen broke up the no-hit bid and shutout bid with a solo Home Run to start off the 5th Inning.  Arrighetti came back and retired the next 3 hitters.  Sox 2nd hit came on a solo Home Run off the bat of Masa Yoshida in the 7th inning.  Arrighetti came right back to strike out the next 3 hitters to end the inning and his day.  Ceddanne Rafaela reached with a 1-out single in the 8th.

Threat in the 8th: Sox put together 3 hits---2 with 2 outs in the 8th inning and plated 2 runs to get to withing 1 run at 5-4.  Jarren Duran kept the inning alive with a 2-out single that sent Ceddanne Rafaela from 1st to 3rd.  Duran stole 2nd and Wilyer knocked in 2 runs with a single.  Masa Yoshida, 1st-pitch swinging, popped out to 3rd to and the inning.

Winck the Opener: Josh Winckowski got the nod as the starter/opener Saturday afternoon.  Winckowski gave up a 2-out solo Home Run to Yordan Alvarez in the Top of the 1st Inning.  He retired the side 1-2-3 in the 2nd and again in the 3rd and he got 8 ground ball outs over his 3 Innings.

Back From the Minors: Brad Keller made his 1st appearance since being brought back up from Triple-A Worcester. Keller gave up Alvarez 2nd Home Run of the day and a solo shot to Alex Bregman in the top of the 7th.

The Red Sox return to Fenway Park Friday night was not a successful one as the Sox dropped an 8-4 decision in the series opener against the Houston Astros. The Sox have lost 2 in a row overall and 2 in a row at Fenway. The Sox had an opportunity to get to .500 at home for just the 2nd time this season Friday night.

Ugly 7th for the Pen: Red Sox took a 3-1 lead to the Top of the 7th Inning. Lucas Sims was the 1st reliever into the game for Boston. Sims gave up a leadoff Triple to Jake Meyers, struck out the next hitter and then gave up a game-tying, 2-run Home Run to Jose Altuve. The Astros ended up scoring 4 runs in the inning (all 4 charged to Sims) and collected 7 hits (6 in a row at 1 point) in the 7th after managing just 4 hits over the 1st 6 Innings.

Ugly 7th Part II: Sox threated in the home 7th but were turned away and ended up leaving the bases full. Tayler Scott walked pinch-hitter Enmanuel Valdez to load up the bases with 2 outs and Scott left the bases full by striking out Rafael Devers on 3 pitches.

Tanner On The Bump: Tanner Houck made the start on the mound for the Red Sox Friday night. Houck gave up a leadoff walk to Jose Altuve and a single to Alex Bregman in the 1st Inning. Altuve scored from 3rd on a groundball double play. Houck came back and worked 5 straight scoreless innings. He worked a 1-2-3 4th inning and then left the bases loaded in the 5th. Houck gave up a leadoff single in the 6th and then got a 6-4-3 Double Play to end the inning. Houck went 6 innings and left with a 3-1 lead but ended up with a no-decision. #89's Final Line- 6.0 IP. 4 Hits. 1 R. 1 ER. 3 BB. 1 K. 82 Pitches/51 Strikes.

More 2-Out Magic- Sox took their 1st lead of the game in the bottom of the 2nd Inning against Houston starter Ronel Blanco. Nick Sogard, making his Fenway Park debut got things going with a 2-out single. Ceddanne Rafaela followed with a single and both scored on a Double off the bat of David Hamilton to make it 2-1 Red Sox. Sox 3rd run of the game came with 2 outs in the 4th when Nick Sogard scored on an errant pick-off attempt from Blanco.

Not A Lot of Hits: Jarren Duran led off the home 1st with a Double and was left stranded. Sox had the 3 straight hits in the 2nd. After that, they managed only 2 more hits for the rest of the night.

A Couple of Firsts for Sogard- Sogard made his Fenway Park debut Friday night. He singled and scored in the 2nd. Walked and stole his 1st Big League base in the 4th and was left stranded at 3rd Base. Sogard collected his 1st Big League Extra-Base hit with a two-out Double in the 7th and was eventually left on base. Sogard has reached in all 6 games since coming up from Triple-A.

What's Next?: Sox continue their series with the Astros with a a day game on Saturday. 1st pitch 4:10 p.m. EST. The Sox did not announce their starter for Game 2 of the series prior to Friday night's game. Astros go with rookie Spencer Arrighetti.
