So often, there is a spoken and unspoken pressure to push your practice as far as it will go. Grow. Grow. Grow. Push. Push. Push. So many well-meaning people apply pressure to dentists to grow their practice into something massive. There tends to be a simple definition of success that every practice owner is fed, and then they spin their wheels always working to achieve. In this episode, Bethany and Dr. Kuba talk about an experience Dr. Kuba had recently where a well-meaning advisor pressured her to push her practice toward a destination. Through dialogue, Dr. Kuba was reminded that she is content in her practice. It is providing for her family. It is providing good careers for her team. It is focused on quality care, and it allows her to support her family and aging parents. She discusses the importance of finding contentment in the practice, knowing that it will ebb and flow with life goals.

Most days for dental professionals feel overwhelming. How is it possible to get everything done? With constant interruptions and consistent “fires” to put out, the daily tasks of running a dental office often get pushed to the side. Then, they pile up. By the end of the week, the mound of things to complete feels insurmountable. Dentists and their team members leave the week feeling overwhelmed with what still needs to be finished. They then start the next week with the same overwhelmed feeling as they begin another week with constant interruptions. Bethany challenges listeners to take control of their tasks and gives practical steps for organizing the day and week into maximum productivity. If you feel overwhelmed with the amount of things you need to complete, this episode is for you!

No matter the specialty, treatment acceptance is the lifeblood of every practice. In a good number of practices, an excellent treatment coordinator is behind exemplary treatment acceptance. So, what is a good treatment coordinator (TC)? What makes them unique and better than other TCs? In this episode, Dr. Kuba and Bethany discuss the core qualities that make great TCs. As a foundational quality, treatment coordinators have an insatiable desire to close cases, which leads them to obsess over every detail of the encounter. They seek to know and understand their patients while communicating with them in a way that is effective and achieves the desired result. An excellent treatment coordinator is always tracking potential trends and tweaking fine details to ensure that the acceptance rate improves. If a practice is missing a treatment coordinator, then the doctor usually assumes the role. Because treatment acceptance is such a valuable part of every practice, this episode cannot be missed!

Join Bethany as she discusses the growing popularity of membership plans. As the quality of dental insurance continues to degrade, membership or wellness plans have grown in popularity. Bethany describes the three most popular types of wellness plans, and she reminds listeners of the importance of keeping the plans profitable for the practice and yet simple for the patients and staff members. The goal with all membership plans is to support the patient in keeping with regular preventative care. With a little bit of creativity, dental practice owners and their teams can help patients stay healthy.

It is, unfortunately, a frequent occurrence. Team members argue, disagree, and simply cannot seem to get along. At times, it is related to simple personality differences. Other times, it runs deeper and seems to impact daily interactions. In most situations, the arguments lead to a chronic feeling of bad blood on the team. The doctor is often unaware of the specifics, but can sense that something is off. There are times when the doctor is roped into the disagreement and must somehow mediate the situation. All the drama can impact employee retention, patient satisfaction, and even the practice success. So, it is important to handle situations quickly and with strategy.
If your team is constantly struggling with arguments, cliques, and team drama, you could benefit from taking a deep dive into personalities, communication, conflict management, and other topics at the Consulting Crash Course. For more information, email us at: [email protected]

In this episode, Dr. Kuba and Bethany talk about the various disappointments in continuing education courses and dental conferences. It is difficult to find a course or conference that meets everyone’s needs, and it is even harder to justify the cost involved in these classes. Often, practice owners will limit down the number of team members they invite simply because the results of the course often do not justify the cost. Implementation is another difficulty with CE courses. Even if the team gets super fired up at the course, the implementation is dismal on the backend. This causes practice owners to wonder if they should have even invested in the event. Finally, Dr. Kuba quizzes Bethany on her out-of-the-box idea on what she believes is going to be the best education course – a 2-day consulting crash course designed for ONLY one office at a time. Exciting!

It is often the foundation of stress, the things we dread the most – legal issues. Often times, the things that keep dentists up at night are the fears of being sued for something, anything. In this episode, Dr. Kuba and Bethany discuss multiple real-life scenarios. First, they discuss being caught in the middle of a divorce case where Dr. Kuba was called as a witness. She reminds listeners of the importance of knowing the laws and abiding by them when it comes to court decrees, custody, and HIPAA. Second, Dr. Kuba shares about a time when she nearly got scammed. The uncanny details of what the scam artist knew where enough to fool Dr. Kuba. So, listeners, pay attention! Finally, she and Bethany discuss what to do when sued. Although it is not a fun subject matter, it is critical to have some context so that YOU are prepared when one of these strange situations potentially lands in your lap.
