  • No Risk = No Progress - Ep 54

In this episode, we dive deep into the most significant risk I've ever taken in my entrepreneurial journey: joining the Arete Syndicate. My wife and I had saved up $100,000 to start a business, inspired by Andy Frisella's MFCEO Project. When the opportunity to join the Arete Syndicate mastermind came up, it cost $50,000—half of our savings. Despite the hefty price tag, my wife supported my decision to invest in this opportunity.

I share how taking that risk was a pivotal moment in my career, leading to the creation of Genesis, meeting my business partner Brent, and forming other crucial business relationships. We discuss the importance of taking risks in business, how to distinguish between smart and reckless risks and the necessity of embracing discomfort and uncertainty to achieve success.

You will also get practical advice on making calculated risks, including using data to inform decisions, investing in yourself and your business, and understanding that risk is an inherent part of growth. Whether you're a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting, this episode is packed with insights on navigating the challenges and rewards of risk-taking in business.

Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast hosted by CEO, doctor, comic book geek, and car guy, Alex Spinoso. I help people and companies grow - especially in the medical business. While my experience and expertise is in scaling all types of medical businesses to 7, 8, 9-figures or more, I can be a mentor to anyone who wants to take ownership of their lives, become a better leader at home and at work, and overcome any obstacle that stands in their way.

  • Understanding the Valuation of Your Medical Clinic | Medical Monday - Ep 53

In this episode, I'll break down the key factors that determine your clinic's valuation, how to increase its value, and what can potentially devalue it. We'll explore the importance of your financials, whether based on EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) or SDE (Seller's Discretionary Earnings), and how these metrics impact the worth of your clinic. I'll also discuss the importance of building a brand, maintaining clean accounting records, and ensuring your services are scalable and marketable.

We'll delve into understanding your clinic's worth. Many clinic owners often overestimate their clinic's value, so we'll break down the fundamental principles of EBITDA vs. SDE to give you a clear understanding of how these metrics are used in valuation.

I'll also explain how to calculate the value of your clinic based on EBITDA and SDE, including typical valuation multiples. This section will help you understand what a venture capitalist or private equity group looks for in your financial statements.

  • Innovate - Ep 52

In this episode, I want to discuss the crucial role of innovation in business. Innovation is about figuring out how to do things in new and better ways. It's a core value at my company, Genesis Lifestyle Medicine. We must constantly innovate, review, adjust, and evolve our practices to stay ahead.

Being relentless about data gathering is essential. Adopting a note-taking mentality helps gather raw material for innovation. Use tools like the book "How to Take Smart Notes" and the app Obsidian to organize and connect your notes in a meaningful way.

Vertical integration is key to my business success. Look for connections between products, services, and business strategies. Be intentional about finding and leveraging these connections to improve your company's outcomes.

Strategic partnerships are essential for growth. Networking and forming partnerships bring new insights and resources. Embrace relationships to drive innovation and progress. Remember, what got you here won't get you there. The market, culture, and world are always changing. You must adapt, evolve, and innovate to succeed.

  • The Ultimate Guide To Creating Culture In Your Medical Clinic | Medical Monday - Ep 50

In this Medical Monday episode, we jump into the importance of core values in building a successful clinic. Your core values are the foundation for hiring, firing, rewarding, and growing your business. When my company started, it was just me, my partner, and one nurse. Our core values were based on who we are. Describe yourself with words like integrity, accountability, and growth to define your core values.

As you grow, involve your staff using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). Ask your team to identify someone who could run the business and three qualities that make them a great candidate. These qualities become your core values. Narrow them down to three to eight core values and ensure they are embedded in your daily operations.

For instance, Ritz Carlton reviews a core value every morning across all their hotels, teaching and sharing stories about it. In my business, we have cards and bookmarks with our core values and discuss them regularly. When reprimanding staff, refer to these values to guide behavior and decisions.

  • Kill For Women - Ep 49

In today's episode, I'm diving into how being a dad has improved my business mindset, teaching me patience and perseverance. Having kids is similar to managing employees—you have to teach them repeatedly and patiently. It's crucial to consistently invest in them, both at home and in business, to help them grow and succeed.

Recently, a significant event occurred in my life: the birth of my daughter, Camila Valentina Elisa Spinoso. She joins our triplets, Leo, Gio, and Bella, reinforcing my adoration for my little girls. This experience got me thinking about the vital role women play in the success of my businesses. Despite the industry being largely female-centric, many companies fail to embrace women in key roles. This is a huge mistake.

Aggressive women are often unfairly stigmatized. However, a true leader recognizes their value and knows that their aggression can be channeled constructively. Women combining goal orientation, emotional intelligence, and competitive spirit are exceptional assets in any company.

If you're not actively recruiting high-caliber women for key roles, you're missing out on significant opportunities for growth and success. My businesses have thrived because of the incredible women in high-level positions, and I strongly recommend other companies to do the same.

  • Above And Beyond, Spending My Life Savings On a Mastermind, and Making Money Anywhere (with Mike Claudio) - April '22 | Ep 48

In today's episode, I get interviewed on The Big Stud Podcast. We talk about my entrepreneurial journey. I started working as a prison doctor, which was exciting at first but quickly became unfulfilling. I realized I wanted to do more, to build my own business. With the support of my amazing wife, we moved out of our house, rented it on Airbnb, and downsized to save money. It took a year and a half, but we saved enough to start our journey.

Joining the Arte Syndicate was a game-changer. I invested half of our savings, and it completely changed my view on money, status, and jobs. I met incredible people, including my now business partner, Brent Messer. Together, we started Genesis, initially a stem cell clinic, which has now grown into a national brand offering a wide range of services from hormone therapy to non-surgical fat loss.

My journey wasn't easy, and it took time to replace my original income. But every step, every challenge, and every relationship formed along the way has brought us to where we are now. Remember, in entrepreneurship, there will be moments of doubt, but it's the wins that keep you moving forward.

  • From First Visit to Lifelong Loyalty: Mastering Patient Retention in Your Medical Practice - Ep 47

Hey everyone, welcome to the Spinoso Podcast. When you're just starting out in your medical practice, the number of new patients you get is crucial. But as you grow, the focus should shift from acquiring new patients to retaining existing ones. This transition is key to scaling your business. Today, I'll walk you through the "loyalty circle," a concept that has significantly boosted our growth. The right side of the circle represents the customer journey up until they pay for your service, and the left side is everything that happens post-purchase. At the top of the circle, our patient enters through marketing, has their consultation, and you educate them about your unique process. Using the closer method, you finalize the sale, marking the end of the right side of the circle.

Post-sale, the first few hours and weeks are crucial to ensure they don't regret their purchase. Exceptional customer service, follow-ups via text or calls, and handwritten thank you notes make a huge impact. Such gestures not only enhance patient satisfaction but also increase word-of-mouth referrals, which are the most lucrative and cost-effective form of marketing. This cycle of treating patients well, closing the sale, and continuing to provide top-notch service leads to more referrals and reduces your marketing expenses.

This patient journey framework has helped us grow to 19 locations and can be applied to any business. Set up standard operating procedures for post-purchase communication to keep patients engaged and loyal. Use automated systems for follow-ups and ensure continuous engagement to show that you care about their success. This approach not only boosts patient retention but also enhances long-term client value and recurring revenue, making your business more valuable to investors.

  • Find Your Rome - Ep 46

In this episode, I delve into the profound impact Andy Frisella has had on my life and entrepreneurial journey. The most transformative influence he's had on me is through his entrepreneurial group, the Arete Syndicate. Arete is a Greek word meaning excellence, and for the ancient Greeks, it was the ultimate value. Initially, Arete referred to excellence in war and physical combat, derived from Ares, the god of war. However, it evolved to encompass excellence in all areas, from battle prowess to communication skills. Despite their commitment to Arete, the Greek civilization fell due to internal conflicts, weakening them and making them vulnerable to conquest. The Romans, on the other hand, adopted and refined the concept of Arete. They believed excellence required a commitment to something greater than oneself—Rome. This collective dedication to a higher purpose was key to their dominance and longevity as an empire.

One of my favorite movies, Gladiator, illustrates this perfectly. It tells the story of Maximus Decimus Meridius, a general who embodies Roman Arete. Betrayed and seeking justice, Maximus rises as a gladiator, fighting not for personal glory, but for the greater good of Rome. His commitment to excellence for the benefit of Rome, rather than himself, is a powerful lesson in leadership and dedication. This concept of Arete is extremely relevant to business and personal success.

I love money, but I view it as a tool for a higher purpose. My ultimate motivation is my family—my wife Stephanie and our triplets. This commitment drives my pursuit of excellence and gives meaning to my efforts. Building businesses is rewarding, but it pales in comparison to the day when my kids join me in continuing the family legacy. Are you committed to Arete? To excellence? If so, what motivates you? What's your Rome? Our actions today have lasting impacts, and it's crucial to commit to excellence and dedicate our efforts to a higher purpose.

Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast hosted by CEO, doctor, comic book geek, and car guy, Alex Spinoso. I help people and companies grow - especially in the medical business. • Working For Free, Fake Entrepreneurs, Watches, and Cars ft. Pejman (PJ) Ghadimi - Ep 45

This episode of The Spinoso Podcast is packed with value from my conversation with Pejman Ghadimi, aka PJ. I had the pleasure of sitting down with PJ to dive deep into his incredible journey from his immigrant family roots to his rise in the corporate world and beyond.

PJ shares a resonant story from his days as a corporate banker, where he worked a full 40 hours while his colleagues were slacking off, echoing my own experience in the prison system where I was told to slow down my work as a physician to avoid making others look bad.

We also delve into one of my favorite quotes from PJ's homepage: "What you do in life echoes in eternity." Inspired by the movie Gladiator, this sentiment has guided PJ through his career transitions. He talks candidly about his firing from banking just as he was about to buy a Lamborghini, and how his mom's advice kept him from letting that setback take away his power.

PJ recounts his journey from losing a $400k job to discovering his true identity outside of a corporate business card. He shares how he used his skills to transition into the online space, founding Secret Entourage and other successful ventures. PJ emphasizes the importance of being willing to work for free initially, as this period serves as an invaluable education and sets the foundation for long-term success.

We discuss the art of detecting fake wealth on social media and how consistency in lifestyle, not just flashy symbols, is key to spotting genuine success. PJ also reveals his personal indulgence: buying new Rolls-Royces every few years despite knowing the financial hit, simply because it's a passion of his.

Tune in to hear PJ's unique insights on building real wealth, the importance of authenticity, and the hard-earned wisdom from his journey through multiple industries. This episode is a must-listen for aspiring entrepreneurs and anyone interested in the psychology behind success.
