Dear Midlife...

Midlife Mindset Check with Mesha McKittrick

Listen Later

It's true…our world is getting harder and harder to navigate, but not always because of what's happening on the outside of us, but instead because of what's happening inside our very own minds. Everyone on this planet needs a little help navigating through this space. I've no doubt that those of you in our audience have experienced so many difficulties in your lives.

Our guest today, Mesha McKittrick, has experienced her fair share of life's challenges, as well.  She became pregnant at 14 and then suffered the loss of that child at a young age, navigated and, ultimately left, a codependent and abusive relationship, lost her father (who played a significant role in her life), struggled through significant financial setbacks and manages a busy life as a wife, mother and mindset coach.

Mesha believes that you cannot control the things that happen in life, however, but you CAN control how you react to what happens to you in life. So, today we'll explore some of the pivotal challenges in life and how to move through them by curating and surrounding yourself with the right support and leveraging the power of a positive mindset to keep moving forward and live your best life.

In this episode, Mesha reminds us that:

  1. We all have our own “lists”. In other words, everyone’s life is full of difficulties. We choose how we face those struggles.
  2. Who you are becoming is more important than who you’ve been.
  3. Treat a child as if they already are the person they are capable of becoming.
  4. There is power in asking “why”…don’t be a “whyner”.
  5. Look to your past for proof that the struggles you’ve endured so far have shaped who you are as a person. This will help you to overcome future hardships by knowing there is a purpose behind them.
  6. We have to influence our subconscious mind with our conscious mind and make deliberate choice.
