Vaginal Birth after Caesarean ‘VBAC’ is the term used when a woman gives birth vaginally, having had a caesarean birth in the past. There are lots of considerations to look into when making the decision between a VBAC or an elective repeat caesarean birth and this week’s episode is here to assist you in unpicking the evidence and supporting you to plan a positive birth by whichever means following a previous caesarean.
This week I am joined by fellow midwife Angie Willis, better known on Instagram as @theecomidwife. I am really excited to chat with Angie about this topic as I know from working with her in the NHS that this is an area, she is particularly passionate about.
Thanks for listening.

Crying and Baby Sleep
With Calm and Bright Sleep Support- Eve and Gem
If you are anything like me then hearing your baby cry is like someone pulling your heart from inside your body. Your gut instinct is likely to instantly pick them up, cuddle comfort, feed or rock. There are two notions that seem to exist- one in that this is the right thing to do to respond to your baby and develop deep and secure attachments and then there is the idea that perhaps we shouldn’t rush in, maybe we should even let them cry?
On this weeks episode I am joined by two women who in the eyes of many parents, mine included, are sleep angels. Eve and Gem, founders of Calm and Bright Sleep Support @calmandbrightsleepsupport, sisters and mothers to 8 children between them. Eve and Gem believe in empowering parents with solid sleep and believe it is achievable for all, but they also have a very unique take on age-appropriate responsive crying that you may not have heard of before. www.calmandbright.co.uk

You become a mum and probably expected to be changing nappies on demand, but did you expect to also become a launderette, all-inclusive snack bar, children’s entertainer, nurse, taxi and much more. Throw work into the mix as well and things get a little extra crazy.
This week I am joined by Natalie Ward, founder of Latched @latcheduk, pre and postnatal clothing brand, mum of 2 and all-round wonderful human. Natalie knows the mum- work life juggle very well and this is a great excuse for me to grab her for a chat and learn how she does it all with a smile.

The power of our gut health on our own wellbeing is incredible but then when we uncover the power that it has on our children it is nothing short of mind blowing. Such simple changes that can literally have life changing consequences all because of the amazing microbes in our gut.
This week I am really excited to be joined by Lucy Upton, a highly specialist Paediatric Dietitian and Feeding Therapist with over 12 years of experience @childrensdietician
I hope you are enjoying and learning as much as I am on this chat about the power of gut health, it really is fascinating and more powerful than we have realised for many generations. Gut health is one incredible way to support your baby’s immune system which is developing in the early days, weeks and months of life and is essential for them being well, thriving, and healthy children. But there are other things we can do to support a strong immune system too, head over to www.aptaclub.co.uk/midwifepip to find out more.

High BMI, Plus size, Obese, High Risk … all labels you may have heard or being told in pregnancy. How does a plus size pregnancy alter your care, should it? What are the possible risks and what can you do to ensure a supported, positive and empowered pregnancy and birth regardless of your body’s size.
On this weeks episode I am joined by a specialist plus size pregnancy midwife, Alice Keely, with 15 year’s experience working with plus size pregnancy she is here to give such holistic and supportive advice and information which is really lacking in this field.

Oh Toddlers, delightful little curious beings with more sass than most of us parents can handle. As our babies grow into toddlers food becomes increasingly important and prominent in their lives which may throw us some challenges as we navigate the next steps in their weaning journey.
This week I am joined by the wonderful Charlotte Stirling Reed @sr_nutriton who you may have listened to on my podcast before where we discussed the first steps in weaning your baby on Episode 59. Charlotte is an award-winning expert in the area of weaning and feeding, as a Registered Nutritionist who has supported thousands of families with feeding their little ones.
Charlotte has just released a new book to follow on from her bestseller How to Wean Your Baby called How to Feed your Toddler- linked in the episode description I am loving the practical and reassuring advice for these next feeding stages. https://www.srnutrition.co.uk/2022/04/my-new-book-how-to-feed-your-toddler/
On top of Charlotte’s weaning and feeding wisdom I also want to share the wonderful and information available by heading over to www.aptaclub.co.uk/midwifepip where you can learn more about the importance of Iron, Vitamin D, Calcium and much more in your little ones diet. It is must know and evidence based information so head over to www.aptaclub.co.uk/midwifepip and check it out.

1 in 4 women give birth in the UK via caesarean Section, which means we are doing a huge injustice to 25% off the motherhood population if we do not discuss this mode of birth.
This week’s guest is mum, Georgia @georgiedoesstuff who has recently given birth to her second baby via a Caesarean section that she chose as her mode of birth. Georgia sent me a gorgeous video capturing the moment her little girl Luna was born via caesarean that honestly gave me goosebumps, so many of her important birth preferences were incorporated into the experience and Georgia has kindly come on this week to discuss her beautiful planned caesarean birth.
I hope you are enjoying listening to Georgia’s wonderful experience, and that it has inspired you to consider how you can ensure a planned or even an unplanned caesarean birth may be positive for you should it be recommended. It is also a good idea to understand a little about what happens during and after a caesarean birth so there are no surprises, head over to www.aptaclub.co.uk/midwifepip to learn more about this.

Honestly, I was there once too- heard the term Hypnobirthing and imagined all the marbles, crystal balls and birthing in the forest- all very hippy style and niche. Now if that’s your thing then of course that’s cool too but actually Hypnobirthing is absolutely for you if you are expecting a baby regardless of how you may plan to birth, and it need not be hippy at all.
On this week’s episode I am joined by fellow Midwife, mum of 4, and founder of @thebumptobabychapter Beth Kitt. Beth often speaks about the way women will always remember the day they give birth and the way it makes them feel and this is so, very true. Birth is not something we should leave to chance it is simply much too important. The truth is antenatal education is unregulated and you can train to become an antenatal educator through a short course of around 3 days in length. I will leave you to ponder on how good you feel that is…
You may have realised through this episode quality birth preparation is something I am immensely passionate about. Unfortunately, on the internet everyone seems to feel they are an expert in this area and there are more myths, misconceptions, and unreliable resources than I can bare to count. This is why I am happy to be able to sign post you to www.aptaclub.co.uk/midwifepip for free, accessible information written by experts and backed up by evidence.
