Like many of us, George Thompson once had a running story in his head that said he wasn’t likable, wasn’t successful enough, wasn’t good enough. Upon studying Taoism and practicing the mindful movement of Tai Chi, Thompson’s inner story began to change. He now uses the transformative power of stories to help others reconnect to their own.
In this episode, Sean Fargo speaks with George Thompson about how he found Tai Chi and his teacher, Master Gu. They discuss Thompson’s latest film, The Subtle Art of Losing Yourself. The film is a retelling of the story of our relationship with nature and addresses the root causes of environmental and mental health challenges.

There are a great variety of mindfulness practices and there are benefits to each. They are not, however, the same.
A complete mindfulness practice, one that leads to awakening, is not merely a training in paying attention, but in connection and love.
In this episode, Sean Fargo speaks with Zen teacher, author, and poet Henry Shukman on the benefits of meeting each moment with awareness and an open heart.
Henry Shukman is an author, poet and a teacher in the Sanbo Zen lineage. He has taught meditation at Google, Harvard Business School, Esalen Institute, Colorado College, and United World College among other venues. He is the Spiritual Director Emeritus of Mountain Cloud Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico and co-founder of The Way, a meditation app that guides users on a single pathway of training toward the deeper possibilities of meditation.
Shukman’s most recent book, Original Love: The Four Inns On The Path Of Awakening, is an antidote to the suffering of our times, helping us heal from hyper-individualism, divisiveness and disconnection.

What happens when someone tells you to relax? Often, the directive to relax or let go results in further tightening. When we attempt to relax on demand, we just can’t make it happen. Stress can then increase as we wrestle with what we may perceive as failure. Things change when we view letting go as a process versus a goal.
In this mindfulness meditation, guided by Sean Fargo, we’re invited to soften our attachment to doing, to soften our need for control. In the process, we experience degrees of opening into the spaciousness of our experience. No longer wrestling with right or wrong, relaxed or not, we get closer to the calm we long for.
Listen in a safe, quiet place where you can be relatively free from distraction. Practice with eyes opened or closed, in a posture that balances comfort with alertness. May this meditation be of benefit to you in your mindfulness journey.
