Many people equate being alone with loneliness. But they are not one and the same. We can be alone - with our self and by our self - and still feel very connected to others around us and our support system. We need to practice being alone more so that we can learn how to be with our own thoughts and feelings. Too often we are looking to others to fill up the white space when we could be getting more in touch with our own sense of self and practice gaining greater self-awareness.
LESSONS: Being alone is not synonymous with being lonely. In order to get to know yourself better, you may want to spend time doing things alone so that you can tune into how you are feeling and what you are thinking. Being alone is not a measure of your worth and value. You are worthy and valuable regardless of who is in your presence. Learning how to tolerate your own thoughts and feelings is a lost art, as we are constantly busy on our phone or distracted by various notifications. Learn solitude and you’ll inevitably feel more connected to yourself.
