In this week's minisode, I'm making a bold statement: There is no good reason why any single, childless woman should not be happy, be making the most of her life, and be feeling good.

With all of the stories, assumptions and stigmas surrounding spinsters, it would be easy for us to think that we have every reason to not be happy, to not be enjoying life, and to not be feeling all that great. It would also be easy for us to buy into the notion that we are all living lives of lack, lives that are somehow 'less than'.

Well I'm here to tell you that this is simply not the case.

A life of being single and not having children is, in fact, equal to a life of coupledom and motherhood. The two lives are just different. Being a spinster is not a punishment, nor is it a consolation prize for not finding a partner and having babies. It is no better and it is no worse than any other life.

Being unattached and not bringing a child into the world are not excuses, or reasons, to feel miserable, meaningless, lacking in love, purpose or anything else. Because a life alone is a whole life in and of itself. We are whole and complete without the need for anyone else, and it is our responsibility to embrace the very short, very precious life that we have...and live it as fully as possible.

No-one is coming to save us. We have to save ourselves. We are not victims, and nor should we see ourselves as such. So let's start loving the lives that we have.
