Last week we spoke to Mizo about the vow of invisibility and how it plays out in our finances.
This week, we take this discussion even further with Wadzanai Garwe, another Money Magic student, who helps women share their stories so they can be more visible and get the promotion at work or sign the clients they want.
The best way to introduce Wadzi and this episode is to share her recent post in the Money Magic student group, so you understand why I invited her as a guest:
"I remember doing two interviews for higher posts. My coach, male, kept saying - remember this is a competition Wadzi. You need to show how you lead, not how you are part of a team.
Ladies the vow of invisibility may be a cultural thing for us but we are also older sisters, mothers and role models. We need to speak up so that we have a place at the table. Men have been taught to lead. Women have unfortunately been taught to submit. My ex used to say very crudely - ‘my penis penetrates - you take it in’ this analogy has stayed with me.
So could we celebrate the wins please. Could we step up and speak up.
Hi my name is Wadzanai Garwe. I am an economist who has worked in the United Nations system with major International Financing Institutions including the World Bank, thé African Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank for over 20 years.
I have successfully run my own private consulting firm and I have done over 90 missions to over 50 countries helping developing nations improve their livelihoods and combat poverty.
I have directly contributed to the economic development of the rural poor. I have successfully been the financial manager of a family-owned and managed 180-hectare concern in which we had a 1000 sow unit, we fattened cattle for auction and we cultivated 50 hectares of animal feed.
I built a million-dollar home in Ruzawi, Marondera. I am an executive coach. I am a published author. I am a mother of two young adults. I am an activist for the economic empowerment of women. I am a force of nature. Can we do this in this post?"
So now you have an idea of what to expect on today's podcast, which I hope will lead us all to a deeper conversation on invisibility, not good enough and money.
