Before Sheena Yaitanes decided to pursue her dream and establish her own beauty company, the world of clean makeup was well...lacking. Color schemes were dull and payoff was very weak. That is, until Kosas came on the scene. With bright pigments and gorgeous ingredient lists full of clean, active ingredients, these products have become absolute staples in my makeup bag. Tune in for a fabulous interview with Sheena in which we discuss the brand’s origin story, her love of creating makeup, and how she is working to build a stigma-free and inclusive work environment. “I have a story. It’s hard, it’s gnarly but what I’m doing with it - that’s the work.”- Sophia Roe
This week, I’m bringing back one of my favorite episodes with chef and storyteller Sophia Roe! Sophia’s wisdom, humor and excitement for life are all so refreshing and a joy to witness. Her experience growing up with a mother who suffered from substance abuse, learning to love and embrace her brown skin, and ultimately becoming a chef determined to make food more accessible and enjoyable for all is truly remarkable. Tune in to hear us talk about the correlation between skin and food, curly hair (which she just cut off by the way!), her stint at MILK Makeup, and the lack of diversity within the wellness industry.

If you have yet to uncover the genius that is Olamide Olowe, you are in for a ride. Tune in for an incredible discussion on Gen-Z beauty trends, securing VC funding as a Black woman, the clinical skincare comeback, and so much more!

“This country insists that our racial identity is beside the point, that it has nothing to do with being bullied, or passed over for promotion, or cut off every time we talk... It’s like being ghosted, I suppose, where, deprived of all social cues, I have no relational gauge for my own behavior. I ransack my mind for what I could have done, could have said...” - Cathy Park Hong in Minor Feelings
Last week’s massage parlor shootings in Atlanta, and the overall rise in anti-Asian rhetoric over this past year is simply unacceptable. The gaslighting and erasure of the AAPI experience is violent. And so on this episode, I sat down with Soko Glam’s Charlotte Cho, Vogue’s Lucie Zhang, and Instagram’s Natalie Chan to unpack all of it. From their experiences growing up in a predominately white society, to being hypersexualized as young Asian women, to being othered within the beauty industry, there’s a lot to talk about and I can’t wait for you to tune in.

This week’s episode with my dear friend Amelia Glum could not have come at a more important time. As many of us navigate stress and mental health challenges throughout this pandemic, Amelia’s personal testimony of overcoming codependency, leaving a relationship that no longer served her, prioritizing spirit over ego, and embracing one’s inner child is SO IMPORTANT. It is a reminder to us all just how much strength it takes to be vulnerable, and I can’t wait for you all to tune in. Enjoy!
