Narcissists and Aging - It gets worse! Here's What You Need to Know. What happens when narcissists get older? Will they mellow out? Not likely. What if they lose their ability to actually attain supply the way they used to?

I am often asked about how aging narcissists (or older narcissists) are different from younger narcissists. While narcissistic personality disorder never goes away, just like everyone else, the narcissist will experience many changes that come with age.

These changes include things like a diminishing drive for intimacy and other typical things everyone deals with as they get older.

But for the narcissist, things like less ability to obtain narcissistic supply, loss of friends or family members, and the loss of status or reputation can cause narcissistic collapse.

If aging gets in the way of the supply a narcissist is getting, they can become quite angry, vicious, and nasty. As a result, many aging narcissists isolate themselves as they grow older.
