Narelda Jacobs grew up in a big, rambunctious family. Her mother, an Irish trailblazer, came out to Australia and married Narelda's dad, a member of the Stolen Generation who went on to become a religious minister.
Narelda Jacobs is a proud Whadjuk Noongar woman and there’s so much to her story: a strictly religious upbringing, four older sisters, teen pregnancy, a shotgun marriage, a divorce…..there are many plot twists in her life and she recounts them with such warmth, wisdom and humour.
Over the next twenty five years, she built a career as a respected journalist in Western Australia, and last year answered the call from Studio Ten, moving her life and love to Sydney and a national platform where she's found herself increasingly becoming a spokesperson for Aboriginal people.
Hear the extraordinary story of Narelda Jacobs, proud Whadjuk Noongar woman, who's got some welcome advice on how white Australians can be better allies.

There’s a content warning on this episode: talk of suicide, and there’s also some graphic language
Rita Therese is her pen name. Gia is her sex worker name. Her real name is a secret, to protect her privacy.
After beginning as a waitress at bucks' parties, Rita Therese has spent most of her twenties earning a living in the sex industry - as well as topless and nude waitressing, working in brothels and as a FIFO sex worker in mining towns.
Now, she's written a memoir called COME, which shares experiences many of us might not have had before but are curious to understand better. There’s also been deep
heartbreak, and Rita Therese is candid and honest about it all.
In this episode of No Filter, Rita Therese takes us inside her life as a sex worker.

If you’ve never experienced an unhealthy relationship, one where passion and power and control insidiously morphs into abuse…..this episode might confuse you. But even if you’re one of the women who has never been through that kind of relationship, is not going through it now…..I bet you know someone who has. Or is.
Abusive relationships come in 50 shades. The one most commonly understood is physical abuse. It’s a very clear line when you’re physically harmed by someone who claims to love you.
The thing is: abuse in the home isn't just physical. We're learning now about emotional and financial abuse and how crippling it can be for people.
It's something Mia experienced in her twenties and is passionate about helping other women recognise. The guest in this episode is Moo Baulch - yep, that’s her name, it’s a nickname that’s stuck - and she’s worked in the not-for-profit and Domestic Violence space for years before taking on her current role as head of customer vulnerability at the Commonwealth Bank, leading a team who deal with customers impacted by all forms of financial abuse, something that can affect partners, parents, adult children and siblings.
It’s an issue we share Moo’s passion for here about at Mamamia because we’re a purpose-driven company and our core purpose is to make the world a better place for women and girls.
Financial abuse can be one of the many ways partners and family members control, and it's something Mamamia has partnered with CBA to help women out of it. Moo describes in this special No Filter how to identify it, and importantly, how to find help.

It was 2016 and Glennon Doyle was a wife, a mother and the author of a book called Love Warrior, that was about to be released. The book was a memoir about repairing her marriage after discovering her husband's longterm infidelity and Oprah had chosen it for her bookclub. This was big-time. And Glennon was about to begin a national promotional tour across America.
What happened on the first night of that book tour was definitely not part of the plan. But it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to her. And the best decision she ever made. For herself. And for everyone who loved her.
Her new book, Untamed, tells the story of how Glennon's life unfolded so unexpectedly after that night and how she had - until then - tamed herself in so many ways, just like most women have.
Glennon is a truth-teller for a new generation of feminists and her story will resonate with every woman.
Glennon is a wildly popular guest on NO FILTER and you can hear those earlier interviews here and here.

We've wanted to bring you this story for a while now - because it's a story that's played out in our extended Mamamia family.
Anne Stephens (mother of Mamamia's Clare Stephens and Jessie Stephens) was twenty-two and finishing her teaching degree when she discovered she was pregnant.
It was 1982 and things were different then. She couldn't see where she could give the baby the life she wanted for him.
37 years later, he found her. After a mission and a half. Here's Andrew's story. Anne's story is here.
Jessie and Clare Stephens are Anne’s daughters (she also has twin sons, Jack and Nick) and they have written beautifully on Mamamia about the experience of finding their mystery brother’s birth certificate when they were 14 years old and what it was like to finally watch his reunion with their mother almost 15 years later on the other side of the world. You can read their story here. https://www.mamamia.com.au/adoption-australia/
