Obstacle Running Adventures

Obstacle Wonderland had their 4th Halloweird event and it was pickle themed! It was the first time that Mike was able to make it out to their fall event and the second time ever going to an Obstacle Wonderland event with the first being their Boogie Wonderland event back in 2024.

We were in New Jersey for a baby shower on Saturday so it was an easy hour drive to the venue.

You'll hear audio from the Amy's Ascent challenge, kid and adult start lines, interviews with vendors and people that made the event possible, as well as a recap during the drive back down to Jersey!

Definitely consider checking out Obstacle Wonderland's events in the future, they are always a fun themed experience!

Start – 3:54 – Intro

3:54 – 15:19 – Quick News

15:19 – 16:17 – Content Preface

16:17 – 35:06 - Audio (Amy's Ascent, kid's start line, and adult's start line)

Next weekend we will be releasing either a dog training episode, interview related to Spartan Sprint World Championship, or something else!

We first met Matt Novakovich back in November of 2014 at the Spartan Race World Championship viewing party just outside of Fenway Park in Boston!

We had him on the show back in 2018 on episode 89 when we covered Killington in person by doing finish line interviews.

Between him losing his son, being public about his grief, and him returning to Killington to be honored, we figured it would be a great time to have him on the show for his own episode.

We discuss his athletic background, his love for Alaska, how he found OCR, what it was like being on the Spartan Pro Team during the glory days of the sport, his return to Killington for the Beast, and how he has been handling his son's death.

Start – 3:42 – Intro

3:42 – 13:15 – Quick News

13:15 – 14:19 – Content Preface

14:19 – 1:16:57 - Matt Novakovich Interview

1:16:57 – End – Outro

Next weekend we will be at Obstacle Wonderland's Halloweird on Sunday October 11th so most likely an episode covering that!

BoldrDash was one of the great local races in the northeast which unfortunately came to an end a year or two ago. Luckily she kept the door open for future events for other companies, charities, etc. This is what brought Doggie Dash back, and hopefully it will be the first one that we are able to make it to!

We talked to Lynn Hall from BoldrDash, Katie Callahan from Find Tour Bold, and Hannah Kaiser from NEADS Service Dogs about their upcoming event! You'll hear what the money is going to, rules for the event, recommendations for those looking to put on a similar event for a good cause, and much more!

Hope to see you there after you register here!

Over the many years of doing elite interviews there have been some athletes that have risen to the top of Mike's favorites, Logan Broadbent being among them. Katelyn recently saw a post about him winning an ultra and setting a PR on the course and figured that we should have him back on the show. Once Mike realized how long it had been since his last appearance on the show (Palmerton 3K Live Coverage) he reached out to change that!

Logan has competed and done well in a variety of sports including OCR, ninja, boomerang, and road running yet stays incredibly humble. We catch up about him winning the Boomerang World Cup, the Spartan Northeast US National Series, and a road ultra! We also discuss why he loves his home city of Cleveland, and much more!

We discuss some life changes like earning her degree, ending a long term babysitting job, and getting engaged as well as her background with horses, her adventure in Mongolia, her upcoming move, and much more!

After we covered World's Toughest Mudder we went to Paris to experience France for the first time! We then took a train to Geneva, Switzerland and drove down to cover the Spartan Ultra World Championship in Morzine, France!

This is part 2 of 2 for our coverage which is everything from Saturday! This features a wedding, the award ceremony, and athlete interviews. Some interviews were more difficult to conduct due to language barriers but I appreciate those who took the time to talk to us. That is the fun part of going to new countries but it makes it difficult when covering events as a podcast.

Hope you enjoy hearing about this amazing event and consider checking out one of the most beautiful Spartan Races there is!
